Hey guys,

Here's another set of decks coming soon to Kickstarter.

Site: http://vixentorgames.com/products/

Info:
"

The American frontier was a rough place, where men fought and died and played a hell of a lot of poker. The Plugged Nickel Playing Cards were inspired by a love of the Old West, and pull from some of the colorful characters of that time. You’ll find the gambler and the outlaw, the sheriff and the prospector – only you’ll find them all dead. Legends never truly die, though, so the spirit of the frontier lives on… more or less… in this hand-illustrated and custom printed deck of specialty playing cards.

The Wanted Poster deck has a light background, like the rough paper once used to warn law-abiding citizens of the presence of unwanted outlaws.

The Plugged Nickel cards are printed right here in the USA by the United States Playing Card Company, and proudly boast the Bicycle logo. There are two different decks – the Wanted Poster and the Rusted Tin – so you can deal up a different brand of frontier justice every night."

With two decks, it's going to be quite a goal. These are better than the Gunslingers deck but just like those, I'll pass on these. Barbed wire all over doesn't work for me. I think what I like most of this deck is that portion on the tuck that says "Plugged Nickel Playing Cards".

My thoughts exactly. For some reason I just dislike the look of barbed wire on playing cards. I know it's a legit part of the Old West theme, but I've yet to see a design that looks good.

I am on the fence on this deck. Not a huge fan of the tuck, the backs seem a bit busy also.
I like the court cards but the barbed wire is a tad overdone.

I hope the second deck will be a stretch goal because as said above it will be a tall task to get two decks funded.

I agree with you. I think the artwork is very nice on some of the cards but the barbed wire ruins the whole thing. Still, if the price is right, I can see myself buying these.
...but that's just my opinion.

Not a fan of the art.  The skulls look like a cross between sugar skulls and cattle skulls.

I like the Wild West as a concept and theme, I'm just not crazy about these. I do like that some standard elements/looks were maintained in the courts and that they are 12 different designs, but the skeletons aren't working for me, along with the already mentioned barbed wire.

The Rusted Tin version looks a little "muddy".

Kudos for the one-eyed jacks, the one-eyed king and the suicide king.  I love that nod to the classic courts and cardistry.  Of course, the king of diamonds looks more like the suicide king than the actual suicide king, and he certainly could have had an axe and fit in with this theme, but now I'm just nitpicking.

Still, this is a big pass for me. Cowboy skulls not singing to me.

I think it should be noted that the suits on the indices look AWFUL. There is no way in hell you could play a game with this deck. Basically pointless if you plan to use it for anything.

Agreed. I think this deck should just ditch the barbed wire. Suits would be a lot clearer.

I wasn't a member of this forum when this was first posted, but I still read it and appreciate all the comments. I considered cutting some of the barbed wire (get it? cutting the wire?) but when I tried it, I missed it.

The one comment that really stuck out was 10ofclubs about the indicia. They really were dreadful. Virtually illegible. I redid them... and that broke all the links here. I didn't redo the other art because I liked it better with the wire and skulls, so I probably don't have a roomful of converts, but just in case, here are the updated links.

You can also get a good look at all the amazing web design I did when I built the site... though there's no more information there than I just put here, except for some largely unnecessary ad copy. But if you love ad copy, you can see it at:

www.vixentorgames.com

The Kickstarter for this deck goes live on February 23, so I can have all day off to mainline Tums and get even more gray hair. Feel free to keep going with the uncensored commentary - I really would rather hear unvarnished opinions. Unless you want to call me horrible names related to body parts. That just makes me sad.

So, we're talking Central Standard Time?

That would make it 2PM Eastern Standard Time - the time KS presently uses, if I'm not mistaken, since they're based in Brooklyn, NY.

For the international membership, it's 19:00 Sunday 23 Feb., UTC

Hey everybody!
If you haven't been to kickstarter lately, there is a new deck of cards called the Plugged Nickel Deck. I recommend you visit kickstarter and take a look at it (and maybe get a deck of it)! Well, just a few bullet points are that the creator is Matt Drake. The deck is based on the Old West, and a bit of dead people. The Plugged Nickel deck is his second attempt on kickstarter, so I want to give him ALL the support he needs. He is roughly about 70% from his goal with 321 backers and 13 days to go! And if you cannot buy the deck on kickstarter, magicorthodoxy(check out his YouTube channel for monthly giveaways) is doing a giveaway for the PROTOTYPE version of this deck. Just so everybody knows, there is only a few prototypes in existence. So, make sure you back this deck of cards, and get a deck of it, and check out magicorthodoxy's channel!
The link to the kickstarter campaign is:https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/786438508/plugged-nickel-playing-cards-printed-by-uspcc?ref=nav_search

                    Thanks, everybody!

Hello, young person!  Welcome to the Discourse.

It seems you didn't notice that we already have a topic for the Plugged Nickel deck here in the Playing Card Plethora.  We try to keep decks to a single topic in the PCP to make it easier to find all the information about it in one place.  I took the liberty of merging your topic with the pre-existing one.

If you really want to learn more about the project, you should also check out the topic for it in the Design and Development board.  The designer came here with the original concept for the first and unsuccessful Kickstarter project and we helped him out by giving our comments and opinions as well as offering new ideas for the design.  The deck as it exists today is due in part to that collaboration.
