I think badpete may have missed this on purpose, but I'll throw it out there for everyone's amusement.

Help fund the printing of SANK! Artist Playing Cards

Project by
Kathryn Briggs
Dundee, UK
£375 goal

Quote
What happened to four friends after art school? They SANK! SANK! Playing Cards, that is: 54 works of art you can play with

Risks and challenges

The art for each card is finished, polished, balanced, and ready to go; even the boxes are custom designed. We've sourced a great printer but, getting our project printed exactly how we want it has a steep minimum order requirement: 100 decks of cards. Even split between four, this is a big financial hurdle for new graduates on the "starving" end of the artist spectrum. With your kind support we will be able see our vision fully realized.

Of course! We are happy to ship to you wherever you are, at no extra cost :) Delivery times vary according to country, but if you should choose to back the project, we'll give you an estimated time of arrival for your parcel.

Last night I stayed up late playing poker with Tarot cards. I got a full house and four people died.

It's an art deck.  Eh.  Nothing I can feel excited about.  I've seen much worse, but I've also seen better.

Offering international shipping for FREE was a BAD idea.  I'm betting they don't realize the costs involved, especially when shipping to places that are nearly halfway around the Earth from the UK.  Most projects have a hard-enough time dealing with one-pack and two-pack shipments because of the costs involved.  They'll be lucky if they don't end up losing money in the process.

And the fact that a pack is 15GBP isn't helping matters...

Prices are pretty consistent from the UK. One price for the UK, one price for Europe, a price for the rest of the world (not including Australia and a few countries around there) and then a price for Australia and a few countries close to that region. If they have a business account with Royal Mail they'll get even better rates.

And the fact that a pack is 15GBP isn't helping matters...

Looks like they just added shipping to the price to me.

The SANK logo thing looks too much like a doodle than a finished drawing.  However,  I do like art done on the hearts and spades suits.

I noticed last week that this project was already into the funded range.  Honestly, I like the artwork as artwork, but it's not working for me as playing cards - it's a common occurrence with art-based playing card designs.  It's why I never went for the Ultimate Deck.  At one time I'd buy them because I thought they were cool and different, but I'm also a working magician and on a budget - I can't get every deck I have a whim for so I've learned to focus my collecting more.  Art decks like this were one of the things that fell by the wayside.

I don't wish to be mean, but that goal is not hard to hit.

I'm not surprised they can get it funded. There are people in KS who would basically pledge for anything with the words "Playing Cards", and this, though nowhere near what i would consider getting, generally have some "ok" art work. Again, i dont mean any harm or cause any internal conflict, but if they sold the cards by suits, only the hearts and maybe the spades are worth getting. They really need to focus on "cleaning up" their work. Maybe i am picky when it comes to artwork, and people can always argue art is subjective, but i am sure there is still a THICK line between good and sloppy artwork.
