Another one way back, sigh. And too much writing on the faces methinks. But I hear they are looking at a 2 way back design so there is some hope. Other than that it looks pretty cool.

I am a fan of the aces and the detail and design surrounding every card. I am not a fan of the theme (and corresponding courts) or the one way back design. Good luck to this deck anyway.

Well it's not a bad deck. The illustrations are done nicely. It's just that "hipster" seems overused and I group it with annoying words like yolo.
I agree that there's too much commentary but I don't mind them on the court cards since it complements and sort of explains the courts.
The one way back is a turnoff but the borders are really thin. Starred for now.

Awesome Idea! I love decks that differ from the design norms. Will be checking this out!

The quote that appears on every card is "Into it before it was cool," but I thought the hipster attitude was, "it's cool, so I'm not into it." Clearly, I don't understand hipster.

That said, I kinda like the deck. I'll mull it over.
There are no 3's in rousselle. There are, however, two s's, two l's, two e's (but not in a row), an r, an o, and a u.

Annnnnnd then I saw the price.

Huh.

I don't think I have enough cash to be cool.

I totally agree. The first pic of the tuck really caught my eye.

I would prefer if he removed all the text.I could still deal with the text on the courts, but on the number cards...Just seems a little too much. It also feels like he needed the text to tell people how "cool" these cards are, and with all that "into it before it was cool" catchphrase.

I hope he has something special on his 2nd joker though. Another hipster standing there to me is ok but boring. If he could come out with something different would definitely be nice.

I still think it is a nice deck overall.

I think these cards are kind of funny in an entertaining way.  It's just a matter of who you'd market it to - hipsters themselves? Are they ironic enough?  :))

pshh...I so heard about these like 2 weeks ago.

There's no room in my skinny genes to fit a deck of cards.

The perfect companion to go with my scarf and beard.

-----

Only kidding.  Seriously though, I really like the tuck box.  The courts aren't my style in a playing card but he's done a nice job of really capturing the theme of the culture.  I think it will do well, if people aren't "too cool" to back it.

There are people who might back it just to poke fun at their hipster friends - that is, if you can find hipsters with friends!

I pledged for a deck for my collection, mainly because I like the tuck and overall design. I also don't care for the hipster theme and the text on the courts. I think that the deck would be successful if the characters and text were removed, and the artwork itself was the theme. It's good work.

I can take or leave the tuck design, but I really like the non-branded version much better, but I'm not crazy about the "Head" image on the back design. Anyone else?

The design, linework, and art is fantastic. But why hipsters?

It's a dull theme to begin with, and doesn't leave much creativity for design. The intricate tucks kind of clash with the more cartoony courts. It doesn't make sense.

Most definitely the unbranded. Their logo is much better than the face design.

  • Charm gets you quite far. Guile gets you the rest.
The creator is looking at alternative designed, playing around with removing the text or moving it around and removing it from the 2 through 10s completely. He is incredibly receptive to feedback and hopefully we will see him on here and can help him make this a really great deck. He clearly has a great eye for design but I think could use a little community guidance applying it to cards.
Kickstarter completely revolutionized the way I waste money.

Ok, so I have been working on some new designs based on some comments I received. The new face card designs will now match the backs. I decided to do one (1) quote for the whole deck (this will be for the Bicycle branded deck and the unbranded limited deck) and that will be at the top and bottom in the border, making it not so distracting. I also saw an opportunity to play on the more humorous side of this, by putting Hipster jokes on the joker cards. There will be a total of 4 different jokers that will have Hipster jokes on them. I am also working on the other four ad cards. I am trying to figure out how to make them unique for the two decks.

Please give me your honest feedback.

I'm not digging the chevron division on the King of Spades. Maybe you could make his arm do something instead.

I thought the old quotations for the courts were part of the appeal.  Now we're seeing a bunch of hipsters with no real context.  And please, LOSE that quote that appears on every single card!  Put it on the box, put it on the Ace of Spades, maybe even the jokers, but every card is too much.

And why is the colorful joker wearing something that looks like a tutu?  Am I not hip enough to get the cool factor of tutus?

I have to disagree Don, I really love the quote on every card, I think it is absolutely appropriate to the theme and looks good.

The joker is the designers daughter, I'm pretty sure it *is* a tutu

I actually like the subtle changes, looks much better. And not that it's the end all be all, but I still can't seen to get passed the head shot on the back design though, but that's just one persons opinion it seems  ;)
