I sure hope he owns the copyright to every image or else he could be receiving a few angry emails.

  • Pick a card, any card...no, not THAT card!

No, they'd be more like "cease and desist" letters...  However, there is a chance that he used public domain photos.  I honestly wouldn't know.

What I really love are his high-tech graphics!  That must have taken days if not weeks using the very latest in computer graphics software to render...

When this funds, I'll let my 6th grader design a deck of cards.

Why are so many cat themed decks getting created on kickstarter.  I first thought it was a smart idea because people who are fanatical about cats buy all sorts of unnecessary cat related material.  Now I think its getting a little stupid.

Quick, I must get a bunch of pictures of my cat doing funny things.  Then I'll throw them into photoshop, stick some generic pips, throw on a generic back design on it, and go to kickstarter! Instant money!

Well, we're in a cycle of cat, dog, and bird decks at the moment  ;)

Guys, STOP WHINING.  Sure, these decks aren't to our tastes.  But if every deck was to our tastes and our tastes alone, there wouldn't be a lot of decks selling, and thus the entire hobby of modern custom deck collecting would be right out the window.

We really are just a TINY SLIVER of the overall market for playing cards.  More importantly, the most successful decks to come out of Kickstarter didn't succeed because we and we alone were thrilled with them - it was because they hit an audience OUTSIDE of our hobby and found a broader appeal among the "mortals."  :))

Maybe this deck is really best enjoyed by cat hoarders and spinsters - so what?  You don't have to buy them - you don't even have to LOOK at them if you pass over this topic!  (Except for the occasional deck search or KS report, but you get the idea!)  Tiny printers that allow super-short print runs exist for a reason, and this is that reason.  The printer is happy because he has a new, profitable print job.  The creator is happy because they get to see their dream through to become a real, physical object - their deck of cards.  The backers are happy because they get their deck that they liked enough to want to throw money at the project.

The only unhappy people are the ones grousing about the whole thing, who will never own a single deck of these cards, and for all rights shouldn't be able to care less about them...  And who wants to be THAT GUY?  Am I right?

So please, stop, take a breath.  We get it, you don't like it.  Do you realize the more you moan about it, the more popular a search for this deck gets on Google?  Post a few dozen more times, perhaps you'll make it as popular as "Federal 52" or "Bohemia" or "Smoke & Mirrors"...  Seriously, how many times have you searched for a deck and found a Discourse topic in the top five of the results, or the top ten?  It's food for thought.

EDIT: whoa...it can't be my time of the month already, can it?  :))
