Title: Legend of Zelda deck? Not as gimmicky as you may think.

I personally think the deck looks very professional and even sports a two-way back design. It stays true to what real playing cards are and the best part is, they're not bridge-sized.

It looks like the artist is on deviantArt. Does anyone want to shoot him a message and have him come on here? I would definitely buy a few of these from Kickstarter were it to get launched, and I know other people who would as well.

I mean come on, it's LoZ + original, clean art work + functional playing cards.

They are pretty awesome designs, really.  But I don't think this would ever hit Kickstarter.  Nintendo owns the rights and they're in the playing card business, so if these were to be made at all, they'd do it themselves, no?

Good point. Nintendo is an insignificant player in the card world though. Their decks aren't designed for games, magic, handling or anything practical. They're not Poker sized, and I'm fairly certain they're not even bridge-sized.

I wonder if there is a way he could sell them as a tribute/fan art?

Under current copyright law?  Not bloody likely, I'm afraid.  He'd have to alter the art far enough from its origin to render the point of making them moot, I would think.

$15 dollars for LOZ? My inner Geek is screaming to get the Bundle!!!!!!!!
I wonder where they are having this printed though.
Does that mean they already went over the hurdle or copyright? or something.

The court cards are kinda awkward IMO. I like the back design, it's very stylish. However, unless these are either bridge or poker-size, I don't think they are worth nearly as much as 15$.

Damn I am a huge Zelda fan, these cards are fantastic. I just wish they weren't $15 bucks a pop because I'd like to get a good number of them. I dunno about everyone else, but this hobby tends to put a dent in my bank account haha. I actually really enjoy what they did with the pips, makes the deck fit the Zelda theme much better than if they had left them as just Hearts, Spades, Clubs, and Diamonds.

It's more like "or something."  If advertised and put together just the right way, a fan product like this can fly low enough under the lawyer radar to not trigger a lawsuit, especially if it's such a specialized item whose appeal and commercial prospects are limited.

So, which one is spades, clubs and diamond?

Well, I'm pretty sure the red suit that isn't the hearts is the diamonds, and the black one with the enlarged pip on the Ace is the spades, and through the process of elimination that leaves the remaining suit the clubs. Isn't critical thinking fun?

This deck is interesting and, being a child of the 80's, is almost a must have. Anyone picking some up?

My nephew was practically teethed with an 8-bit NES controller; he'd love this.  Unfortunately for him, he hasn't bothered speaking to his beloved uncle in close to two YEARS, so no soup for him!  Oddly enough, I never got into Zelda myself.  My father's third wife would love the idea behind this as well, but I'm not very close with her these days and I don't know whether she'd care much about playing cards.

I sent them an email asking for some more details about the cards and they replied with this:

"Sure thing! Here are some details about the Cards of Legend:

• Manufactured by Quality Playing Cards, Inc.
• 310gsm stock with smooth finish (glossy-ish)
• Poker size

We may do plastic cards in the future, but we don't have any specific plans for them just yet (we're going to start looking at samples next month). Please let me know if you have any other questions!

If I'm not mistaken, those are the guys Reagan was going to use before he switched to Brahma.  It's a front company for a cheap Chinese printer.

I wonder if these come in a tuck box. There's no picture or mention of one on the website.

I know there might be limited interest in this deck, but just thought I'd share an update. They plan on reprinting and restocking these, so they are not limited, however what the cards are printed on may change in the future. The cards come wrapped in plastic inside a plastic box, picture attached.

That actually looks kind of cool.  My stepmother was a big fan of the game, maybe she'd like a pack...

Haha, dang! Me and my brother were discussing designing a deck just like this! Although, of course, we wouldn't have been able to sell it either...
