Looks like David Blaine likes D&D's clip ideas! https://twitter.com/#!/davidblaine/status/193455791649468416/photo/1
These will be releases sometime between 6pm and 7pm EDT, April 20th

$250 for a clip. That's absurd. Looks I'll just have to stick to my old porper clip...
-
Thats crazy! $250 is wayyy too much for a card clip.... I thought $30 was a good price but $250? no way...
Does anyone know what is making this so expensive?
-
Well he did say "for serious card guys only." - They are probably so high-priced because of the material. It's like buying a snakeskin purse... except for cardists.
-
I think the price is ridiculous. It's all synthetic, and its not like that material is going to protect the box anymore than a normal porper. PASS!
-

Dude, it's like designer bags and shoes. It may not protect your deck more, but you pay for the name recognition. I understand it may not be your thing, but some people DO go for that kind of stuff.
And who said it was synthetic?

I understood it was synthetic. Maybe I'm mistaken. Ya, there is name recognition, and I could totally see magicians wanting it, but in my humble opinion, name recognition isn't always worth 250$ for a clip.
-
This is the equivalent of buying the designer handbag with the designer name instead of the generic model from the big-box retailer. Most of them are already sold out, but some remain.
I can't even see this as a collector's item, honestly. It's a serious bragging-rights items, meant to be used and not tucked into the back of someone's collection. They cost what they cost not just for the name, but for the luxury of the materials. I can't say I'm a huge fan of this, but it's not like they're marketing it to me, now, is it? I'm more Joe Six-Pack than this.
-
Check now, most of the $350 clips are sold out.
It is bloody ridiculous! The DB store is making a serious killing here. And the shipping prices are also... Well ridiculous.
I'll stick to the $22 clip at penguin.
-
Nice card clip but the price is too high
-
Well Dan Buck is a little angry: https://twitter.com/#!/danbuck/status/193531171047612416
-
So, people will spend $350 on an item we all know is worth $30-40, but won't jump on an actually rare item like my printing plates? Us little guys are obviously not known to the right people. :)
I can't possibly imagine how they came up with that price point. Mind boggling, and even more so that they sell out almost immediately. Ah, what fame can do...
-
It will be interesting to see how many end up immediately on the secondary market by resellers. That will let us know whether they were buying them at these prices for themselves because they thought the clips were worth that or whether they were just purchasing to resell and make some quick money. It will also be interesting to see if the resale market moves them quickly or will buyers be sparse.
Aside from the lack of a name, I would think the reason the Tendril plates aren't moving quickly is because people don't know how their value will be assessed by others. Will the value fall, hold steady or rise with time? Apparently, the speculators, who are a big part of the card market, aren't convinced these are a good investment yet.

Guys, pardon my language, but where in the fuck does the pot come off calling the motherfucking kettle black?!?
He's the LAST man on EARTH (besides his brother) with a right to bitch - he's just jealous that he didn't price his higher and sell them out that fast! Those two started this little ride to the overpriced section of Crazytown, and now he's pissed that someone else got on board and took it not just further, but SUCCESSFULLY further?
What a hypocrite. A smart businessman would have simply congratulated David Blaine and offered to sell D&D clips to those who got shut out of the DBlaine sale... But no, he took the low road and let his emotions get the better of him. In my eyes, he looks very foolish right now. (Not that he gives a crap what I have to say; after all, I'm just a customer, one who's still waiting for the greatest customer support on earth to answer an email I left over five days ago...)
-
US$350 for a DB card clip?? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA... *wipe tears* HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
I will pay $350 for a Murakami designed LV card clip (if one exists), but not for a generic leather clip with no special design apart from a DB logo inside the clip.
Man... now DB is pushing it.

I read his books as well. Really interesting.
(Sorry for going off topic.)
Back to the topic.
I think it's better to buy Jerry than these clips period.

Just simply because you didnt get magic con 2 decks and that's why you rant about everything they do. They have the rights to rant about it. Don't you think $350 is "alittle" bit overpriced? Fuck me dude i'd buy a LV wallet.

What I kind of find ironic is just a few months ago he sold his Variety for a surprisingly cheap price, and to of those were cheaper then this. Also he generally sells his products pretty cheap ($25 for two White Lions signed).
P.S. David Blaine has te best customer service guaranteed.

i totally agree with the best customer service part. That said, probably it turned out to be a glitch and it was supposed to be ranging from $15-$35. That way everyone would be happy.

I highly doubt it was a glitch, and even if it was would you fix it now if you were selling them. I know if I were him and this glitch happened, I'd take the money since people decided to pay this much already, why wouldn't you?
P.S. When have you seen any official Porper for less then $20, yet alone a designer clip.

I agree. I will rather throw $350 on a JN than a card clip.
(The Murakami I mentioned is Takashi Murakami, the artist that invented "superflat" art and who collaborated with LV to re-envision their monogram, and I believe the Murakami you were referring to is Haruki Murakami, the author of Kafka on the Shore and After Dark. :) )

So, different Murakami then. :)
whatever, I think collecting playing cards are now going weird.
A lot of people trying to sell extremely rare things with extreme price.

I just make it by myself
and I can choose the leather and color I want ;)

How did you make that clip?
-
How did you make that clip?
I can answer you
just
buy Joe card clip
buy leather
buy tools
(knife,sticker...etc
and I want my name on it, so need some additional steel tool)
and most important one
my passion ;)
-
I was thinking of making one like that too, in purple leather with a little bonus. ::)
It looks really nice, and definitely much cheaper.
Anyone knows how much lizard skin actually costs?

That's really cool! I will try it but will you be able to make a tutorial? Also, is it possible to put leather on the inside of the clip?

Umm, the question is not can you, but why would you? It wouldn't look exceptionally great, and it would be near impossible to get any deck in.
-
Clips like that are sized very precisely, so it would not be possible to put anything on the inside area. I'd think that any pliable material, some quality spray adhesive and a little trimming would give you a decent result when covering. I have some carbon fabric laying around, should give that a try.

It would possibly prevent boxes from getting damaged from tight clips.

But the problem is your deck won't fit, most decks won't fit in a Porper with all 56 cards, yet alone a millimeter or two of leather multiplied 2x inside the clip.

Well I own a replica porper that can fit a deck without problem, and can fit more when widened. I think it would be possible, and I would like to try it. I would put the leather on the inner sides only. Actually I just tried putting a think cotton piece inside my porper, held tight against the sides, and then I put my deck. It fight nice and snuggly without damaging the deck. I might post pics.

The leather is outside the clip, isn't it?

Yes it it on these clips.

So it wouldn';t change the way cards fit inside.

Correct. We were talking about Nathan, because he said he wanted to put leather inside the clip, so thats why we said it would effect the capacity of the clip inside.

Oh thanks, I missed that part. Sorry.

If you read that tweet, he tagged it as cheap and inferior, making unfounded accusations and pushing his products as better. That has nothing to do with MC2 decks and everything to do with Mr. Buck whining that Blaine's making more money on those clips using a concept he's been pushing to the masses.
David Blaine tweets this:
For serious card guys only. Very limited amount of high end Porper clips will be available within the hour. http://pic.twitter.com/xyU6aiEf (http://t.co/xyU6aiEf)
and Dan Buck tweets this:
$350 for a fucking card clip? #overpriced (https://twitter.com/#%21/search/%23overpriced) #madeinchina (https://twitter.com/#%21/search/%23madeinchina) #unoriginal (https://twitter.com/#%21/search/%23unoriginal). Buy the real deal (hand made in the U.S.A.) at http://shop.dananddave.com (http://t.co/EbgUpqXF)
because Dan knows David went to China with Joe Porper and had a bunch of Chinese laborers bend some metal and slap leather on it in their names... Especially since there's no such thing as a Garment District in New York City, practically at Blaine's doorstep, where he can get the leather he needs and have it expertly glued to damn near anything for a reasonable price...
Dan Buck just demonstrated a military-grade case of sour grapes, period. Go buy all the LV wallets you want, it won't change that.
-
Maybe the price is for plane tickets to China. ;D

I'm really dying to know what David and his crew thought when they read that tweet, 'cause I'm sure someone passed it on to him if he didn't find it on his own already. Seriously, Dan's response had all the class of a sandbox temper tantrum.

Yap
If you stuck leather inside
It will hard to put deck in an original joe porper clip
I think the hard part is to find some where to buy leather
You can ask for leather store for tutorial :)
But for emboesswd word on leather
It is another hard part :(
-
I get what he's thinking of - having the deck held inside by a softer, pliable material other than metal. But leather would be a little too "grippy" to be practical. In addition, you'd need to modify an existing Porper to have a wider gap or make a new clip designed for a larger deck in the first place.
I think a layer of something like microfiber would work better in this instance, especially if it's been "sueded" - by brushing the fiber with fine needles, you can break just enough of the fibers to give the surface a soft, suede-like feel and appearance with none of the disadvantages of actually using suede. I have a jacket from that material and it's incredibly soft.
HOWEVER...
Then you run into the issue of what do you do when the fabric, leather, whatever you choose as your inside layer, gets dirty and needs to be cleaned...
I think sticking to a plain metal or wood clip and keeping it clean works better.
