Title: Bicycle Standard Gold edge box - question.
Post by: phantom1412 on April 21, 2012, 05:58:43 AM
In Japan, bicycle standard decks here look like this, which I think it's the same as in US.

But in Thailand, bicycle standard decks look like this.

I heard that the gold edge are made in China. (Not a fake deck)
But I don't really believe that. I touched it and I think it's not so different from what i got from Japan.
I've touched fake decks of Jerry before and they really suck.

So, what I wanna know is where is the gold edge version made?
And is there anything different from the normal one?

Anyone who can get this info, please help me out of curiosity.

Thanks.

I have saw this on UC or T11 forums.. From what was said, the gold border were just an indication of an international bicycle deck. They are made in USA and not china, if I am not wrong, but the official website is under ".cn" which is China.

Thank you very much :)

Many people in my country think it's made in China because the decks were bought from China.

But decks that I got from Japan is the same as USA version.
Wanna ask people in this forum too.
If you are not in USA, which version do you use? And where are you from?

Exactly, these decks were made in the USA but exported to other countries.

I'm based in India and the Bikes I buy from eBay are the white ones. But if I were to go into a novelty store or say any store that keeps imported merchandise, I find the gold ones.

So, somehow they've made their way into a lot of other countries.

I'm in the US, I get the US issue.  There's also a Canadian issue that's not the "gold box" version.  It's easy to identify - Canadian law requires packaging to be in both English and French.  Lemme show you a photo or two...

These are the fronts and backs of Bicycle Rider Backs.  The top row are "classic" boxes, the ones I remember going all the way back to childhood - from left to right: blue, red and black.

The middle row on the left are the red and blue WalMart boxes.  They're sold in cello-wrapped pairs, side by side, and at a nice price.  The middle row on the right are the red and blue "Standard" editions sold everywhere else.

The bottom row are current Canadian issue, made in the US and sold under the International Playing Card Company out of Markham, Ontario.  Americans can probably find them easily enough at Canadian border towns.

For anyone who's wondering, USPC hasn't made a new US-issue "Standard" box print run of the black Rider Backs yet.  They're still selling Cincinnati stock.  The deck is sold exclusively as part of a boxed set that's perfect for a poker night - two Standard reds and two classic blacks.  Used to be all classic-box decks until they ran out of the reds, but the packaging hasn't been updated at all and the boxed set has a "classic" look to it.

The Canadian black Rider Backs have a joker stating they were made in Erlanger.
