One user is looking to trade three of his Magic-Con 2012 decks for three Split Spades Lions decks, one of each color. After seeing the rates on Ebay, is this trade a wonderful idea of a horrible one?
-
Speaking in terms of monetary value, I would say this trade is advantageous for you if you buy from sellers on the Discourse. On ebay, the Split Spades and MCv2 are about the same price. However I feel like the Split Spades are much more sought after and more loved by collectors and magicians than the Magic Con v2 deck.

Hey Kpop...I'm over here too. ;)
I'm also interested in how others reply to this. But here was my logic. The ebay prices are fairly close....a few bucks either way depending on the day of the week. I was lucky enough to get a brick of magic cons and rather than sell them wanted to trade to build my collection. So if someone had DB decks but wanted magic cons then we both win.
It's not about getting exact value for me. But rather building my collection. As for Nathans comment. I don't agree 100%. The split spades have been out longer and are around $25 give or take. Look at the value at the magic cons from a year ago....selling at $60. I think the magic con v2 have more potential....just my opinion.
Either way, I'm interested in what others think too.

That's a way to look at it but then the Magic Con deck was originally only for Magic Con attendees while the v2 was available to more than 600 people in addition to all the magic con attendees.

I wouldn't concern myself to much with what the price of the deck would be in the future. I think this is a fairly even trade. Your "ebay values" are about the same and there is no guarantee the MCV2 will ever go up in price. If anything....actually the Split Spade 1st editions should give you an example of this. I would say right now a complete 3 deck set from one seller are harder to find than the Magic Con's and they haven't really shot up in value over the past 2-3 years (not sure when they were actually produced). As I have both of these decks....I would say I would trade a MagicConV2 for a Tallyho Split Spade any day of the week....I much prefer the SS's to the MC's....just my opinion.

The trade seems very fair.
If the decks are selling for equivalent values on ebay, it seems like a no-brainer.

it depends on you .. if you have alot of split spades then trade .. if you do not have magic con then trade with him .. both the deck are good and the value is almost the same ..
-
Just to be clear. I'm looking for the Lions DB split spades, not the Tally Ho. I'm not even sure what the TH are going for, I didn't research them.
I can only offer a trade based on today's approximate value, not the speculative value 2 years from now.
I originally posted this trade on UC. Now that it's posted over here....anyone else interested? I'm looking for one of each color DB Split Spade Lions (red, blue, black) for 3 2012 magic cons.
As per the rules. My name is Dave Stewart. I live in Oshawa, just outside Toronto Canada.

Although I'm still thinking on it, it'll be fine if anyone else wants to swoop in on the goods.

Nathan, PLEASE think before speaking on a topic with any attempted display of authority!
Yes, the DB Split Spades Lions are a wonderful and sought-after deck - but so are the Magic-Con v2 decks, which were created in a MUCH SHORTER print run.
I could think of exactly one reason where keeping the Split Spades Lions would be more advantageous - if he was a working magician using the gaffed decks and cards in the same design. Otherwise, this is an excellent trade.
Although I'm still thinking on it, it'll be fine if anyone else wants to swoop in on the goods.
It's EXTREMELY bad form to invite other people to "swoop in" on a trade already in progress. And a poll topic like this is more appropriate for the PCP than this board, unless you're requesting to trade with someone here. Posting a trade in progress on this board is fine and dandy, but inviting the world to comment on it and "swoop in on the goods", not so much.
I recommend you close this topic. I won't force it for now, but I recommend it.

Okay Don, very well put, you have close or at least lock this thread now. Thank you everyone for your input, but I believe I am going to keep my set of Lions. : )
