:o i loved the flipbook animation of the Fantastique deck.
It was just a matter of time until another deck would be released with the same feature.
Now let´s think about that : What if, if you can have a forward and backward animation with those gears.
I mean during one riffle -> they go forward, backward, forward and so on.....like a machine is working.
Wonder how the animation would look like in a mixed cards (instead of new deck order) condition.
For magic use....def. something i´m interessted in!
*caugh* Triumph routine*caugh*

The moving gears seems like a great idea! I know SacProductions101 got to see the deck, or at least part of it. The back design isn't very attractive to me, but we'll see. Bee stock and Magic Finish has proved to be an amazing combo (Tendril etc.)

Is it just me or do the colors of the court cards look extremely similar to those of Fulton's Clip Joints? I'm a bit disappointed in the fact that there isn't a lot of customization in the court cards. After the NOC decks, I was expecting more.

...or for that matter, like a slightly darker version of the Guardians.  So what?  Basic courts with a different color scheme.  They look fine to me.

I agree! It let's us build our own hype as a community dependent upon how good the deck is, instead of them force feeding us for months about how groundbreaking a new deck is before we ever see it

The deck looks nice. Somehow, the court cards remind me of something similar. Does anyone know if this coloration was previously used? The animation idea is very unique, with only a few decks having them. I can't wait til' they get out to see what the other cards and the ace looks like. Does anyone also know who received the spade packet?

I know! I have read those posts, but other than those decks, the court cads remind me of something else. Not sure what it is though. At least the court cards math the color scheme. That's the least they can do, right?

They are also very similar or identical to the red bee stingers.

I am very 'meh' about this deck. I love the idea of the animation on the back, that is just all kinds of fun, but it is so VERY DRAB. Man, couldn't they have livened it up a little? There are huge numbers of black/gray decks, like thousands of them, designers need to step out a little bit and try some new things. The borders at the corner also look large enough to park an SUV in.

I might get one to play with the animated part but can't say I'll feel sad if I miss them.

I will be posting a video tonight as well as the pics in the link below.

From the pictures it looks as though the reds and the greys have a patina to them which looks very cool. I don't think this deck will be amazing but it looks like they've put the effort into it to make it a decent deck. I hope they can keep this up if they're releasing a new deck every month. I really hope they don't just start putting stuff out to just to put it out. If this is a sign of the quality of design of the decks to come I think i'm going to enjoy the house of playing cards.

Well, faces look pretty standard, ugly back, AoS will probably be reminiscent of T11 Steampunk AoS which I didn't like to much, and I don't like flip-book back designs. Pass.

I agree. I was scared TBC would start creating mediocre decks from now on, but seeing this one more clearly gives me hope again. The coloration looks very nice, and the back, although similar to Reagan M.'s Steampunk deck, is very cool.

I was one of the 52 and got sent the spade suit.  No, the ace is nothing like the Steam Punk deck.

"Fixing Games since 2012" sounds like a sly reference to the classic card man's definition of a mechanic - a sleight-of-hand artist who uses his skills to fix poker games.  The spades also have the "rugged" look Evan mentioned, but it's less visible on black.

I'll try posting pics later today.

The better pics are making this one look a lot more appealing. Seems like a better version of what the T11 Steampunk deck wanted to be when it grew up. The corner radius on the back still distracts me to no end though..

I agree. I find it very repetitive and not very attractive either. Too simple for a "mechanic deck", a deck supposed to represent complicated parts in objects.

The repetitive pattern represents gears and gear chains in motion, that's all.  Because they're very similar, unlike the Fantastique deck, they don't necessarily have to be in order to give the illusion of motion.

BTW: I could be wrong, but I think the card backs may hide a marking system, in which case you do want the back looking very similar to each other.

Hey guys!  Thanks to everyone for all of the various feedback.  Only about 7 hours left until the deck goes live!

The deck was designed by Jimmy K of Mechanic Industries.  All credit for the design/artwork goes to him.  Just as Russell Kercheval gets credit for the Americana deck, etc.  The logo you see throughout the deck is the official logo for Mechanic Industries.

In regards to the samples we sent out - we're always trying to look for fun ways to get the word out, and give back to our customers.  We chose 52 HOPC customers to receive a Mechanic "flipbook" made up of 13 cards.  We did something similar back when we launched the first Blue Crown deck in 2011.

It's always easier for us to not do things like this.  It's less work, and allows us to make sure that all of the first images/videos people see are up to our high standard of quality.  I can understand that when seeing a brief snapshot of a few cards, people may not love a design.  Like I said, we like to mix it up.  Stay tuned for the future, because you never know when YOU might get a surprise package from HOPC!

Trust me, it is hard for photos to do justice to this deck.  The back design (in addition to having the animation) has a TON of detail and depth.  The color scheme on the face cards is muted and gritty.  While other decks have used similar color schemes, none have face designs quite like those on the Mechanic Deck.

The deck is launching at 8PM eastern tonight.  As with our last launch, we will be offering 3 sweet raffle prizes, plus double points for our monthly Jerry's Nugget raffle during the first 48 hours, so make sure you get your orders in before Thursday night!  We chose our first Nugget winner yesterday, and look forward to choosing more winners throughout the year!

I like how this Jimmy K guy thinks. All of these items and prints look sweet!!

The Back Design looks like it was done as a 3d Model, especially in the Art Print posted above.
If that's true there's probably a digital animation to compliment the card's flip-book style animation.

thanks, Randy

I passed temporarily but am planning on buying it later, from resellers if it sells out. I heard from many different people that the deck looks much nicer in person than in real life, and from close-ups, I can see all the detail in the court cards and back design, and it looks very nice.

Did HOPC win me back with this one?  I'm unsure as of yet, but I think I like this one... IDK... Still on the fence...

Who is excited about the deck Vs. Who passed on the deck? Thanks, J.

I ordered four, myself.  I love the design.

I ordered 6 to get the 10% discount.. Will have to see how the actual decks feel for themselves first. For now, I do like the flip-book animation.. I wonder how they'll look after they've been shuffled up. After that, I might be getting a tool kit just for the card clip and the coins. The coins look like they may be suited for some coin magic.  ;D

I ordered this deck and love the animation of the back of the cards, but if you look at the post by CBJ with the back card animation, you will see that mechanically those gears wouldn't work.
What turns the center gear? the main gears are going in opposite directions to make the outer chain move. ???  Still really like the deck ,but I thought that was interesting in a mechanical way of things. :mindf-ck:

The gear looks workable to me.

We don't know exactly what's going on underneath the center gear, but because the two gears above and below it are spinning in the same direction, we assume they aren't meshed. The only way they can spin the same direction is if there's a gear of some kind in between them. However, the distance between the centers of the upper and lower gears is almost the same as their diameter, meaning they're nearly meshed and there's almost no room for an intermediate gear.

The teeth on the center gear itself aren't meshed with anything so it would have to be connected below in order to turn, but that might interfere with the two other gears in the way I mentioned. If there were more room between the gears it would be easier to assume there's something below the center.

TL;DR: It's not a practical design. Try not to think about it too hard.

Hey everyone!  Just a quick note that Mechanic Deck Uncut Sheets will be going up on HOPC tonight at 6PM eastern - that's about 5.5 hours from the time of this post for you international folks.

Only 35 sheets will be available, so we don't expect them to last long!

I can't believe this, but I hat bought the uncut! I promised myself to never buy uncuts, because I don't want that "Gotta' catch 'em all" mentality like I have with standard decks (and for that matter Pokémon). I'm not sure if it's due to the low price, the rarity, or the freaking awesome design, but I just NEEDED to get this, and I'm glad I did. This is going to be one great wall decoration.

The low price? How is this price any lower than other uncut sheet we've seen. Commonly all uncut sheets go for around $30, so this uncut sheet, to me anyway, wouldn't be considered "cheap."

Yeah, I know. Why I thought the "IAOCP" uncut was too expensive, and I feel this is cheap is something that I cat figure out. I think since the Vaudeville uncut sold for $52 (I think), and there were more of them, so I figured that this would be $50+.

It's only been in more recent years that sheets have been in the $30-40 range.  When companies first starting offering sheets of custom decks, the going rate was $100-250!

We offer the sheets for those who want them, and feel the prices are quite fair, especially considering the very limited nature of each sheet.

Only a few left!
