----------------------UPDATE Dec. 21st----------------------

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Hey guys!
I know we talked about creating 'Official Topics' for card companies to consolidate all of the posts that go on here. Let me be the first to do so, this is where you can ask us questions, post pictures of our decks and we can give you product announcements. Feel free to use this thread in case you can't find the specific topic you are looking for. The subject line will be updated each time we make a significant update to the thread. On to the news...
------------------
You might have wondered where/what Circle City Cards (Adam and I) have been up to the past month or so. Adam has been really busy at his real job, but he has shown me his preliminary outlines of the new deck he is working on, very cool. I've been steadily working on a few more deck ideas and have two projects in various stages of production as I type! One of the decks I have coming up is under tight wraps right now and I can't say much about it other than you can look for it around late-September. It's a fully custom deck that will have one of the best tuck-boxes I have ever seen. That's not hype either, it's straight up a fact.
The other project I had a hand in has created a little bit of a 'buzz' lately in the card community. I helped create the Hornet deck that has been going around online for the past few weeks. I was hired by 'John' to do the layout and be the liaison to USPCC. The Hornet deck is a reprinting of one of the older designs in the USPCC archives. 'John' had me design some basic updates such as the Jokers, Ad Cards, and overall cohesiveness of the deck and promo materials. As payment for all of this I was to be compensated 50% of the net revenue after we made our initial investments back. 'John' of course, fell through on most of his end of the deal and left me footing most of the payment to USPCC for the cards since I was the contact with them.
You may have noticed the complete lackluster attempt at promoting this deck, the Facebook page is just a sad example of how he decided to market everything. 'Half-assed' is the the most appropriate word. I was just supposed to be the silent investor with a little bit of design help. I've accepted what has happened and have decided to move on with everything myself. I have taken over the whole operation starting immediately. There are going to be some changes to the original flier that went around a month ago.
I will be creating a new Hornet deck topic just after this one with all the details if you have questions.
TL;DR
1. New fully custom deck coming out in November
2. I am in charge of the Hornet deck now.

Why is 'John' in quotes?
-
His name isn't John. I'm not going to go into too much detail about who he is, I'm just looking to move forward.
-
I guess I should consider myself lucky for having one of this :D

Woah a double seal Americana deck :o
I have a double seal black ghost second edition deck. It was one of the first decks in my collection.
-
We won't make a new thread about this just yet. It's the answer to our most frequently asked question... "When does the next one come out?"
-
Brimstone Quicksilver... Will this also be a Bicycle-branded deck?
-
Yes, the Quicksilver deck will be a Bicycle deck. It's the follow up to the Brimstone deck.
-
Just added it to the New Deck Report (http://aethercards.com/discourse/index.php?topic=2936). What can you tell us about it so far that you haven't already?
-
I am pretty much finished with it, small details might change as always. The kickstarter will be very basic: cards and uncut sheets. The pricing will be better for international backers and there will be incentive to back early (cheaper decks). The kickstarter will be 30 days and there will be stretch goals. The campaign shouldn't change much, it will be set right from the beginning.
I'll have full info when it is closer to the time.
-
What sort of release date for kickstarter are we looking at?
-
I guess I should consider myself lucky for having one of this :D

Can anyone please explain why a screw up like this would be considered valuable for any reason?

I don't think this belongs here but I will say its one of a kind, and collectors like it. If you don't want it pm me. also I am interested in the new deck. the 1st one did not catch me but i like the sound of this one. Can't wait to see the cards/

Any teaser pics?

Oh my goodness! I can't wait! The Bicycle Brimestone deck brough is Fire, and now Quicksilver brings us Ice. I'm assuming that's the theme, right? I'll be one of the first backers up there, you bet! Are you sure that these decks won't have copyright issues as the Brimestone deck? I loved the first back design, but I still loved the deck after the change (although many people didn't).
-
Looking forward for this release. Much like many artists who go in a series. Fire then ice. Brings the decks closer together even though they are not alike. Your artwork is beautiful.

Hmm... Brimstone is "fire", but Quicksilver is actually mercury, not ice. The element mercury, the only metal that's a liquid at room temperature. Where did you get "ice" from?
-
Before I read these past posts, I imagined Quicksilver to be blue and silver, the opposite of a mainly gold and red Brimstone deck. This would make for such a beauty! After all the amazing decks you've released, this one would have to be a huge success!
-
Thanks for the kind words! Yes, the Quicksilver deck would be more 'water' than ice, but you got the colors correct. The theme of the deck will be similar to the Brimstone deck but with some tweaks to add detail.
Also, the back is fully custom in the same way the Brimstone deck was. No copyright problems.
---IF the Quicksilver is successful---
For all you alchemy nerds out there, can you guess the third (and final) deck? The name will make sense if you are thinking right. (Sorry if that sentence is obtuse)

But someone already made the Triangle Prototype deck.... :)) The Geometry deck? The Trigonometry deck? The Angle deck? (Please don't say it's the Crooked deck...)
-
Hey Russell, good to meet you over here! We just became friends on Facebook. Let me tell you that I love your work. The Americana deck is very unique! Keep up the good work, mate! (http://fc01.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2012/220/d/9/hug2_by_lilyas-d5a9p3n.gif)

Haha, Hell no. The third would be in the same grouping as Brimstone and Quicksilver. BTW that deck is a LONG way off, I have a few others I would like to get out first.
-
Hey Russell, how many new decks do you have up your sleeves? Hornet, then Quicksilver, followed by the vintage series, the 3rd deck after Brimstone and Quicksilver... What else? It seems that since the big 4 companies (T11, E, D&D, and TBC) have slowed down a bit in production, smaller companies such as yours can flourish, and I find that very good: it makes competition for the big 4, forcing them to step up their game and create marvelous artwork as well as great quality.
PS: I looked online to see what could follow Brimstone and Quicksilver in Alchemy, but I can't find anything..
-
I've actually made 3 other vintage decks. I would love to release them all at the same time, but I don't have the cash to print them all at once. That's why I am letting everyone else decide based on a poll that I will put up later.
---edit---
They are more than just reprints of old designs, they are completely reworked from the ground up. It's the same thing as I have done with the Hornet deck.

TBC, as HOPC, releases about a deck a month - how is that slow?
Russ, I haven't forgotten your request for photos...

The Salt Deck?
The Goldstone Deck?

Oh sorry. I didn't bother reading the name. I just assumed by the color of the font.

Russel, is it safe to assume that the Quicksilver deck will be a close opposite to the Brimestone deck?

Russel, is it safe to assume that the Quicksilver deck will be a close opposite to the Brimestone deck?
First, it's "BRIMSTONE". Stop adding the extra E!
Second, he said below the theme is similar. Rather than "ice", he meant the font color to evoke "water", because that's more of what the deck is about. So, since fire and water are generally considered opposites, I'd say they're in the same theme but more along the lines of "opposing factions".
Russ: more guesses! Fire, water... I'm guessing the last deck will be either air or earth!
Also: have you considered revisiting the original card back for the Brimstone, but using the Maiden Back instead of the Rider Back? You can modify them as much as you wish, and the Maiden Back is closer to the Rider Back than the Mandolin Back ever was. Mandolins are good decks, but it still boggles my mind how they came up with the idea of using a mandolin in the design or how little it has to do with bicycles... That's a spitballing session I would have enjoyed watching from the fly-on-the-wall cam! I'm guessing there were libations... :))
-
I've actually thought about it, but I've decided a fully custom back on my cards is best. People can buy cards anywhere and from multiple sources. Card collectors today are demanding fully custom decks and I don't want to make it seem like I am just copy and pasting my designs together.
Someday I might make a gaff deck and use the Maiden back. For now, I have too many of my own ideas!

Codename: Ace Case
Release Date: Q1 2013
Hmm... Is it a deck? A box? Bigger than a breadbox? Do people even still make breadboxes? :))
Whatever it is, this little peek looks promising - but I'm sure we'd all like to know just a bit more! Photo detail teasers are so 2011...
-
Haha, At least I didn't use a shitty filter.
I physically can't show more as the product isn't finished yet. I'll have more details early January.

With a codename Ace Case, it's probably a box.
-
With a codename Ace Case, it's probably a box.
Because they've sold so many boxes before? ???
I doubt it.
Codenames are just that: code names, meant to conceal the intent or real name. When location shooting began in Finsk, Norway on "The Empire Strikes Back", Lucasfilm used a code name, "Blue Harvest", for all the production rentals, crew jackets and caps, etc. to avoid tipping anyone off that the first Star Wars sequel was being made. They even had an ad-line for it that trumped it up as some kind of horror movie.
TL:DR - the code name may have absolutely nothing to do with the actual product.
