Hey Everyone,
For today's Reveal I thought it was big enough to start a new thread here in the Playing Card Plethora section.
Here are the final cards in the ORNATE Decks - the Gaff Cards. They include a 2-Sided Ad Card and a Split Backer.
For the Uncuts - the ORNATE Side is with the Back Designs and the HOPC Side is with the Face Cards.
It's been a pleasure working with Kevin and Alex and I look forward to the possibility of working with them in the future.
Also, it looks like an August 14th release is good to go!
thanks, Randy
-
Oh, thank ye gods! I've been keeping mum on this for MONTHS! :))
It'll be just in time for the start of my vacation!
-
Randy
I love this deck
And I think it has been amazing watching the slow reveal. I have complemented you on your salesmanship before.
But now that I see the HOPC logo I have a great fear.
Will these be as unreasonably priced as the Olympic decks?
Don't get me wrong, like the olympic decks, I will still buy them. But I was hoping for a brick, if these are >$10 a pop it looks like it would only be 2 of each for me again :(
-
I can't post the exact price but have no fear, they will be under $10.
Also, next Tuesday will be another big Reveal showing a set of some custom
items that will go very nicely with the decks!
thanks, Randy
-
This is a great deck and the stuff Randy has in store is also really nice. He's put a lot of work into the entire thing and it's a great set of products. I hope HOPC comes through and gets these out to the world ASAP. I'm looking forward to adding these to my collection!
-
Finally! A good deck on the HOPC. And under $10? Good stuff, Randy.
-
Randy, fantastic job! August 14th cannot come soon enough!

All of HOPC's prior deck releases were $7.95 or less. The Olympic deck was an exception.
Strictly guessing, no inside info, I'd figure these will cost on par with what the Bicycle Americanas cost - $7.95. Remember, just a guess - don't lynch me if I guessed wrong!
The extras being offered are really sweet - very appealing for collectors and, on one particular item, ordinary Joes/Janes who play cards.
-
Wow! Thanks Paul, Alex and Emmanuel. It's an honor to see positive comments from three great deck designers!
I think the item that Don is referring to as appealing for ordinary Joes is an AceKase (http://www.acekase.com/gallery.html). I've been trying for the past couple months to get an ORNATE branded Brushed Chrome and 24k Gold Plated AceKase as a premium item to go with the Cards, Poker Chips and the set to-be-named-later.
Sadly, it looks like that's not going to happen. I setup a pretty elaborate greyscale version of the ORNATE Ad Card that they were trying to Laser Etch onto the AceKases. After about a month of trial and error it was abandoned. For the past month they've been working on the possibility of screenprinting the art onto the AceKases. It's been a couple weeks since I've heard from them so I'm not holding my breath that the cost of screenprinting was a viable option for them.
Even though it looks like it's not going to happen, I wanted to give a shoutout to AceKase. I think they are very high-end looking Card Cases and I'll be picking up a couple for myself to display the Scarlet and Sapphire Decks.
thanks, Randy
-
I've been looking forward to these decks since the beginning! There are some awesome goodies coming with this deck that I know everyone will love!
-
I apologize if this has been mentioned in a separate thread, but I was wondering as to the number of decks in this print run. Has that info been or will it be released?
Thank yehs.
-
on my to buy list! print run was 5000 decks ,bee casino stock right?
-
Hey Cosmicsecret, I'm not sure if I'm supposed to say the print quantities yet.
The card details are Aristocrat Stock with Magic Finish
(same stock and finish as the black Seronda version of the Seasons Playing Cards).
thanks, Randy
-
Hey Everyone,
I just started a contest on my Facebook Page
(http://www.facebook.com/midnightcards). Here's the details:
"Alright, let's start off a 24-hour contest!
Back when I was thinking of designing a deck of Playing Cards, I was watching a television show that lit the spark to do an all-out Regal / Ornate / Baroque deck of Cards.
This contest is simple. The first person to guess the TV show that was the inspiration for the ORNATE Playing Cards Wins an ORNATE Poker Chip Sample Set! ONLY 2 GUESSES PER PERSON PLEASE. If the correct answer hasn't been guessed by this time tomorrow I'll give a hint that will narrow it down immensely."
thanks, Randy

"Uh, OK, I'm gonna guess 'Pawn Stars' and 'American Pickers'! It's gotta be one o' them, they're on practically all the time!"
"Ah'll go wit' 'Mythbusters' and 'Junkyard Wars'!"
"I think it's 'Dog the Bounty Hunter' or 'The Brady Bunch'!"
Good luck with the (wildly irrational) guesses many people will be sending you, Randy. I thought you'd like a sneak peek! :))

Hey Don, it was "The Tudors" and a guy guessed it in the first 15 minutes or so! I had a second contest, with a another Poker Chip Sample Set, ready to go in case that happened. It's very abstract and going now until tomorrow night.
I've tried watching The Tudors a few times over the years. I want to like it but the pace is soooo slow it's just so hard to watch, especially since I try to watch it while I'm on the Elliptical!
My wife and I used to watch Mythbusters all the time! It had extra interest for us when we lived on the island of Alameda, CA and they did most of their shooting on the island. I just googled it to make sure and found this great video on Mythbusters and Alameda (http://dsc.discovery.com/tv-shows/mythbusters/videos/iconic-alameda.htm). Man I miss that place sometimes!!

The final Tuesday Reveal is CUSTOM BRICK BOXES!
Coming to Midnight Cards on Tuesday, August 14th will be FOUR (4) colorful and custom Brick Boxes. All of the designs will be available ala carte at MidnightCardCompany.com. The BLUE or RED Brick Boxes will also come, at no extra cost, with any ORNATE Playing Cards order of 12 decks from HouseofPlayingCards.com. Each of the custom Brick Boxes have some unique features that include:
• A designated "Autograph Section" (each comes hand-signed)
• The Box Dieline has been re-engineered to ship out flat for minimal risk of shipping damage
• Each Brick Box has a built-in Display Header
• Printed on 24pt. CIS Stock with Aqueous Coating (thicker and more durable than USPCC Brick Boxes)
Larger images of each box has been posted on my Facebook Page that's found in my signature below. thanks, Randy
-
Wow, Randy, these boxes are beautiful and a nice collectible. I am impressed. (http://fc05.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2012/220/9/a/staun_new_by_lilyas-d5a9p5u.gif) So you have four different box designs for two different decks, right?

Yep, the Blue and Red Boxes are for the Sapphire and Scarlet Decks specifically. The Black Box is the MIX Brick Box and the Purple Box is a general Midnight Card Company Brick Box.
thanks, Randy
-
Yay, you finally revealed these!
Everyone, I've had a set of these for a while and they are truly beautiful boxes. They are NOTHING like the white garbage you get from USPCC. These are real boxes made of very hefty almost-card-stock-paper and gorgeous printing.
You would all be well served to get some if you are buying Ornates, and even if not they make a great way to display or store your decks. They are so nice that I will probably be making some for Aurum/Encarded.
-
Thanks Paul!
I wanted to add another comment to avoid any confusion on the Brick Boxes. The Blue or Red designs will come with Brick purchases from HOPC, but ALL 4 of the designs will be selling separately (and without decks) on my Midnight Cards site.
My thinking was that a lot of people would like to store or display their decks in a nice Brick Box but might not have the money to purchase 12 decks at a time. I'm taking a gamble on there being a market for selling empty Brick Boxes! The Black and Purple designs will only be available at my Midnight Cards site.
thanks, Randy
-
Paul said it right! These boxes are precious gems compared to the boxes of *coughUSPCCcough*
Randy, I highly anticipate this set. Cards, chips and boxes... You should give yourself a huge pat on the back for a job well done! I can never stop complimenting you for doing such a fantastic job on these.
oh BTW Paul... whats the status on my Tendrils? any word? just PM me on facebook so not to stray off topic. :P

I only can agree with that! (http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2012/220/c/9/winner_by_lilyas-d5a9oxv.gif)
-
I also can attest to how amazing the brick boxes are. They are nearly twice the thickness of the USPCC sleeve. It's very sturdy and holds your decks snugly. I don't even need to talk about how beautiful they look, you can see that for yourself!
This is definitely the card stock USPCC should be using.
-
This is definitely the card stock USPCC should be using.
Exactly, Russell!
-
These are the coolest brick boxes I've ever seen! I think it's awesome that you made new things like the header position and other things. Looks great!
-
Randy is the Bee's Knees! Super talented, and very easy to work with. We're so excited about the launch of this deck next week over at HOPC.
To reiterate - Randy spearheaded the creation of his poker chips, brick boxes, etc. Much in the same way that Jimmy K spearheaded the coins and clips for his Mechanic brand.
HOPC will be offering the Scarlet and Sapphire decks. Orders of 12 (12 blue or 12 red) will come with the appropriate matching brick box, signed by Randy. HOPC has only 100 of each color brick box, so we will not be offering them indefinitely. Randy will be offering all 4 brick designs individually through his Midnight Cards site.
Everything about these decks - cards, tucks, bricks, poker chips, etc is beautiful! You guys are gonna love them!
-
Oh gosh, sometimes I wish I were artistically talented. Or at least I owned a big card company so I would be able to see and own amazing deck designs such as this one ahead of time. Are you planning on making a series out of these or something along those lines?
-
Randy is the Bee's Knees! Super talented, and very easy to work with. We're so excited about the launch of this deck next week over at HOPC.
Hey Kevin, the feeling is mutual!
Working with Kevin and Alex has been great. It was obvious from the very beginning that they know a lot about this industry and wanted to create a great place for designers with the creation of HOPC. It's been pretty cool being a small piece of a company as they start everything from the ground up. I would recommend HOPC to any designer wanting to create their own deck!
One of the things that I think isn't mentioned or brought to the forefront enough about HOPC is that they handle all of the dealings with USPCC. That was a lifesaver with me. I think if I was doing this on my own, and they tried pulling some of the last minute stuff we had to deal with, I would've probably not been on USPCC's favorites list. I won't get into specifics but I will say that the original plan was to print the RED and BLUE Brick Boxes with USPCC. That didn't work out so well. Kevin was very calm and we came up with a solution that I think worked out perfectly and ultimately brought about the existence of the Brick Boxes Set!
I'm very glad the launch is almost here and I hope I can relax enough over the next week to get some sleep. I had a tough time sleeping last night as I was so nervous about everyone's reactions to the Brick Boxes!
@NathanCanadas - It's been hard enough getting all of the elements in place at the same time I haven't really thought about a series or anything like that. We did like how the Black and Gold looks together on the MIX Brick Box though!
thanks, Randy
-

So, after Scarlet and Sapphire - Soot? :)) Kidding, of course - a black version of this deck would look impressive. Perhaps you could team it with a green deck and release "Emerald" and "Ebony"? They even have the same number of syllables as S&S!
-
I had this Render ready for a Tuesday Reveal but kind of forgot about it!
thanks, Randy
-
Hey Everyone,
I put together a Sell Sheet that shows what's available where on Tuesday night.
thanks, Randy
-
Wow, the brick boxes are amazing looking. Such a pity I can't afford to buy 12 decks at one go with so many releases around this time of the year.
-

redtank151 - BLUE and RED Brick Boxes will come automically with 12-Deck orders from HOPC. All 4 of the Brick Boxes will be sold ala carte at MidnightCardCompany.com (without Cards). I think they are very reasonably priced, with a small discount for each 1 ordered.
thanks, Randy
-
PRICING FOR THE CUSTOM BRICK BOXES:
Any ONE (1) Brick Box for $6.50
Any TWO (2) Brick Boxes for $12.50 ($6.25 each)
Any THREE (3) Brick Boxes for $18.00 ($6.00 each)
Any FOUR (4) Brick Boxes for $23.00 ($5.75 each)
NO PLAYING CARDS INCLUDED.
REMINDER: 12-Deck Scarlet or Sapphire orders (or 6 of each) from HouseofPlayingCards.com will come with RED or BLUE Brick Boxes at no extra cost. WHILE SUPPLIES LAST. HOPC has 100 RED and 100 BLUE Brick Boxes available.

thanks, Randy
-
So Randy, buying decks from the HOPC will only get the buyers a red or blue brick box, not the red-blue hybrid box or the midnight box?
-

Correct, the PURPLE and BLACK Brick Boxes will only be available at MidnightCardCompany.com. HOPC has 100 RED and 100 BLUE Brick Boxes to go out with 12-Deck orders. Flat RED and BLUE Brick Boxes will also be available at MidnightCardCompany.com.

New question:
Limited edition?
Cards - yes
Brick boxes - yes
Chips - ?
Will there be other accessories, and will they be limited?

New question:
Limited edition?

Hey Don, the Poker Chips aren't limited at all. They are made-to-order by ABC and as far as I know are being added to the ABC catalog of Chips offered.
I had 1,000 Brick Boxes produced, 250 of each color. With 100 RED and 100 BLUE at HOPC I will have 150 RED, 150 BLUE, 250 BLACK and 250 PURPLE available on Tuesday. I'm not a big fan of limited items, so if they turn out to sell well I can get the printer to start manufacturing more right away and finish up in 2-3 weeks. Their quality is great - and they're fast!!
I'll also have the customizeable Art Prints. Anyone ordering an print can choose any ONE or FOUR Face or Back Designs, depending on if they order a 1UP or 4UP Art Print. I'll be handling those and sending them out to print on a per order basis. Not limited.
The only other items are some Cafepress Shirts and Hoodies with the Red and Blue Jokers with different backgrounds. Not limited. I'll post some pictures of them tomorrow. The Jokers are my personal favorites in the ORNATES.
thanks, Randy

Just another thing Randy, say I wanted to get the ornate decks, boxes and chips, I would need to buy the decks from HOPC, the boxes from Midnight company and the chips from ABC ? Does that mean I have to put in 3 orders at 3 different websites and pay shipping 3 times?
-

Yes, sorry but that was unavoidable. In order for the Poker Chips to be a viable option they needed to be printed and shipped by ABC to the consumer. If I ordered a large number of Poker Chips, paid to have them shipped to my home and then separated out specific Chip orders - I would've had to add a hefty per-Chip markup just so I wouldn't LOSE money. With them being created by ABC for the consumer directly there is no added markup, so the Poker Chips are available at the lowest price possible.
The only reason the custom Brick Boxes exist are because HOPC does such a great job of handling all aspects of getting the Playing Cards printed and shipped. Knowing that I wouldn't be shipping any of the Cards freed me up to explore something new - selling empty, custom printed Brick Boxes. The shipping fees I setup for the empty Brick Boxes are definitely not going to break anybody's bank, in my opinion.
thanks, Randy

Randy will have the decks in stock in limited numbers, so no, you could leave out the HOPC order, but that still means two orders. Also you might want to check weights on those chips before rushing to order, considering you're shipping internationally. Getting a decent amount could become expensive if it's too heavy.
-
I'm just getting enough Decks from HOPC for personal use - they'll be mostly going to a few family members, friends and Poker buddies. I definitely won't be selling any Decks from my site. Knowing that I wouldn't have to sell or ship Decks is what opened up the idea of creating and selling the empty Brick Boxes!
thanks, Randy
-
I stand corrected. There you have it redtank - three orders to get the works.
-
Just about 8 hours until these are available. I've been playing with them a bit, and they are really fantastic. USPCC really came through on the execution of Randy's amazing artwork.
The thin borders, pattern in the border, and half-circles on the edges make fans look awesome! And the Aristocrat stock/Magic Finish combo feels great.
You guys are really gonna love these. I sure do!
-
Here's the first photo of the finished cards. Courtesy of Alex Pandrea.

Woah! Looks amazing Randy! So nice I'm gonna try and buy a set for my grandpa who lives in France. Although he hates american pips (K for kings, Q for queens, J for Jacks and A for Aces instead of 1 for aces, R for kings, D for queens and V for jacks in france), I'm sure he'll find the artwork AMAZING just like everyone else. Wow, Randy, amazing job! I'm sure they'll sell out real quick.
-
I had the pleasure of getting these early and I decided to do a little photo shoot! Enjoy!
Review coming soon.

I saw them a few weeks ago at HOPC - they really are gorgeous, and since finding a better supplier, now they'll be cheaper and not a limited edition!
-
Well I think all of this is going to sell out really fast. I think the best idea would be to first get the brick boxes, then the decks, and finally the chips, in order from rarest to least rare.

The ornate deck isn't visible in the playing card category but I found it by clicking on the mechanic deck and replacing mechanic-deck.html in the URL by ornate-deck.html. They're at 6.95 a piece. What a great price! And wow, if I had any money right now, just getting one of each of the decks still available (excluding the Ornate deck), you get your free Gold Crown deck. That's so easy to obtain! If you get a mixed brick of crown v2s, 6 Mechanics, 2 of each NOC, 6 Vaudeville, 6 Verves, a mixed brick of Olympic decks, and a mixed brick of Ornates, and there you easily have your 3 gold crowns!
EDIT: by the time my post is done, Randy has already posted, and the Verves are SOLD OUT!
-
Woah, looks like these will sell out FAST! Already less than 1700 of each available!
-
picked up my brick of these plis an extra Sapphire, also a verve deck and one of each color crown V2, plus the GOLD CROWN! Thanks Randy, I am still deciding on a hoodie.
The price when I got a brick of these was $5.51 or around there, that is awesome these are the best priced deck lately, and arguably the nicest release this year!
Again thanks HOPC and Randy
-
The verve deck on my side is sold out.
-
I had 2 Verves in my cart but kept having difficulties and errors while checking out. I made it so far as the "place order" right at the very end and then got another error and by the time I tried again they were sold out! Oh well fortunately I got a couple during the prerelease. I wasn't going to go for the Gold Crown either but by the time I finished my cart had over $60 already so I figured what is another $20!
-
Got myself a set of London Decks, 4 Verve Decks (Missed out on them the first time due to camping), and of course 4 of each Ornate decks 8)

That happened to me as well with the Verve decks, had 2 in my cart right up till checkout. Oh well, I got 6 of each ORNATE decks, 2 Vaudevilles and 1 of each crown decks. Also a Gold Crown :D

I picked up 4 sets of these! I can't wait to get these. They're incredible!

Yea i picked up 4 too! But i ordered today and now there sold out of the scarlets but my order is still processing. Any help?

All of our orders will show "processing" until they are shipped, at which time the status changes to "completed". If you got an email invoice and the order shows up when you log into your account on the HOPC site, then your order was placed successfully.

There's only one Sapphire left!

They're all SOLD OUT. It hasn't even been 24 hours! Awesome.

Thanks :). Wow all SOLD OUT. How much do you they will cost on ebay? Lol
-
Congratulations to Randy and Midnight Cards for a ridiculously successful campaign and a beautiful deck.
All I need to know now is " when will we see the uncuts?"
Good luck in your future endeavors

When I spoke with Kevin, he mentioned that the Verve decks were gone in just a few minutes - there were so few to start with, they simply didn't last.
This was a massive sellthrough, and congratulations are due all around: Randy, Kevin, Alex and all the people between them and us who got these decks made and are now busily tending to the shipping.
-
Congratulations on this incredibly successful sale! Wow, Randy, it looks like the community is begging for more from you!
-
Congrats to Randy. His cards are gorgeous and deserve the success. Remember that HOPC cards will generally not be limited, so if you missed out this time you should be able to get them again someday in a second edition and beyond.
As a full-out independent, I can only hope to compete with the juggernaut that HOPC seems to be creating. :)

Randy, Not only was it a wonderful addition to everyone's collection... But the fact you could pick up a number of your decks and receive a Gold Crown was just fantastic... The good karma and energy surrounding your decks doesn't end... Keep up the good work!!!
-
Randy, you have a lot to be proud of. Your decks are spectacular and we're all lucky to have them. Congratulations :D
-
If anyone hasn't seen them there is some shirts for sale on the Midnight Cards site that are really nice, I think I'll pick up the Red joker tee shirt.
-
Fans with this deck are amazing!
-
Someone need to do the double row circle fan thingy.
(As you can tell I don't know the name of cardistry moves.)

Do you mean a giant fan?
-
I'm guessing you're either talking about the giant fan or the double fan. Right?
-
Uhhhhh, sure!
(fuck word count)
-
Here's a giant fan!
-
Woah! This light blue pops out so much in giant fans! Too bad the side pattern doesn't appear as much though. But It looks very nice in this type of fan as well. ¿Cómo no?
-
Omg they look stunning! Cant wait to get mine but it still says processing? Anyone of your orders still say processing?

All orders say processing until they are shipped.

Thanks for the cool Fan images Evan! I've been on Facebook too much the past month and keep looking for the LIKE button. LIKE, LIKE, LIKE!!
I can't do any Fans or anything like that but I took some pictures of the Cards and the Black Brick Box. The print quality of the Cards turned out amazing! The colors are dead-on and the details are very sharp. Even subtle details, like the lighting effects on the Back, that I thought would be too small to see turned out perfectly. I couldn't be any happier with the printing job from USPCC.
thanks, Randy

Congratulations on such a successful sale Randy, I guess HOPC helped abit by throwing in the gold crowns. Still a great success. I hope to see your future projects!

Redtank... I think your tank is empty with that comment... hahaha...
Randy, Gold Crowns or no Gold Crowns, you're decks are the $#!T and would've sold out regardless... They're incredible and were well worth the wait... I'm sure you're tired of hearing the accolades... but let me just say one last thing... From start to finish... Aces my friend... Aces...

I agree!!!! These decks are the freaking AWESOME!!!! Though I'm happy to get the gold crowns, but the Ornate decks will definitely sell out. Maybe 10mins later.......

Thanks for the compliments everyone!
So how's everyone liking the cards?
I have a little announcement about the Custom Brick Boxes. They're not selling at record speeds or anything like that, so there will NOT be a reprint for any of the 4 Designs. So that does make the Custom Brick Boxes limited to 250 of each Design.

For anyone interested in uncuts, there will be a limited number of ORNATE Uncuts available at HOPC tonight! It looks like they'll have other new uncuts as well. I'm not sure about the time - guessing around 8:00 or 8:30 PM EST.
thanks, Randy
EDIT: Just saw on the HOPC Facebook page - 8:00 PM EST
