Some of us are quite the enthusiasts here. Many of us went through the "OMGIMUSTHAVEITALL" stage when we started collecting.
My biggest regret has to be the D&D IAOCP books I bought for the decks. I adore the cards, but when I bought the books I figured somewhere out there in the world would be 12 people who would want them. Turns out I was wrong. I had never had such a difficult time getting rid of a product. It seems D&D have the same issue, since their "extremely limited" run of these books is still in stock in their store. :P
What's your story?
-
I would have to say mine would spending over $150 for 2 LTD's. not that great of a deck now, Hasn't even become that rare, still around $40- $60.
-
Buying the dealers dozen for the midnight fuel since it was limited to 250 only thinking "dayum dawg eryone will want this" then having the most difficult time selling it for $30.
-
4 bricks of fantastique playing cards... still in stock.
-
hmm well 1st is the heritage series, this one
http://www.bmpokerworld.com/bicycle-Heritage-Series-Playing-Cards-4-Deck-Set.php
I bought it from the1eyedjack, when I really did not have the money for it and now they sit around and out of all my warped decks, this is the worse. and then the next would be vortex, I love the decks, but I originally bought a brick of the decks, with the idea that I could trade and sell them easily when I got them. I still have 5 sealed and an uncut that I am trying to trade. :(
-
For me, it would have been the two bricks of Black Crowns - I honestly thought they would sell out and be a huge hit, such as their precessors, I still have nearly a brick and a half.

I thin they're rare, At least you got the opportunity to break even.
-
2 bricks of Green Crown V1. They haven't gone up in price at all, and no one wants them.
-
My 13 bricks of White Arrco. I could've sworn they'd be the next big thing!
EDIT: I mean DECKS, not BRICKS!
-
4 Lockdown by Rob Greenlee two get 2 ltd decks

Not on their site, unless you're planning to buy the uncut sheet. They've been sold out for months.
Though I will confess that at the lecture last night, they were giving "goodie bags" to anyone who arrived in costume, consisting of a few pieces of candy, some stickers/patches and a pack of Fantastique!
My biggest regret was going partners with a co-worker on a GROSS of Americanas. They did not move well. Still have some, if anyone's interested! I have to get my ass in gear and put them on eBay already...
-
actually they are back in stock now just higher price then when they were first released. : http://shop.dananddave.com/fantastique.html
-
the bricks of white lion b was kind of hard to sell too. but sold all of it.
-
Interesting topic. I'd have to say White Arrcos or Green Crown v1s. I got a brick plus of each and have struggled getting rid of them ever since. I could've sworn the White Arrcos would be in high demand once they sold out....man was I wrong.
-
3 white fan back set with the dvd ...
DAM !! now the white fan back set is sold at his site for $25 if you purchase $39 worth of item ..
and also black crown.. the handling is bad .. and i prefer the color crown deck more

There must be either a website error or that's a special "membership" link, because the deck doesn't appear on their shop's list of available playing cards.
BTW: please try to avoid double posting.
-
@Don Boyer you have to such fantastique and it well bring up the page

Then it's a website error that it's not appearing on their list of playing cards. Or perhaps an intentional oversight.
Did I mention they were giving out Fantastique decks at the seminar Thursday night?
-
the VORTEX DECK, never got it.

how do i delete my post? i accidently made 2. the second one was an identical post as my first so i tried to delete it, i counldnt find where its at so i had to change the subject to white lion.

It's interesting that most posts here are about decks that were purchased with the intention of reselling for profit.
I don't really regret any of my purchases but two decks I bought that I don't actually like are the English Laundry deck and the Propaganda deck.
-
I would have to agree with what a couple people have already stated. I bought a brick of White Arrcos thinking they were gonna be hot hot hot. Boy, I was totally mistaken.
Another example would be when the black Friday sales and holiday promotions were going on last year. Spend so much money and you get an LTD deck, or a BGV1, or Red Artifice etc... Well, I fell victim to that and now I have 20 decks of White Arcanes, 20 decks of Black Arcanes and roughly 20 each of every color of the Artifice deck. Was that a stupid move I made last year? Heck no. Got some sweet rare decks. Now sitting here looking at all these decks..........I ask myself again. Was this a stupid move I made. Yeah, I'm thinking so. Question is.......Will I fall victim again this year? :-\
-

I won't. I can't - no choice. Money's gotta go elsewhere.
What about some other purchases? Anyone here buy a Merz67 deck? Some goofy deck that you never, ever use?
-
the VORTEX DECK, never got it.
That's cute, unfortunately for you your IP is logged here: 99.92.203.22
That same IP is linked to almost a dozen other accounts, all of which are linked to your original account: eggman/walrus
The best part? You admitted to receiving your decks in another thread on UC:
Hey, I received my three Vortex deck. I did not think they would be here prior to end times. I have to say they feel very nice. Not nice enough to make up for the aggravation but I have to give credit where credit is due. I am trying to determine if they are the ones I backed or are they my bounty for winning the last person to post thread.
And a link to the thread: http://UC.net/uc/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=6866&hilit=vortex&start=140
And in case you decide to remove it: http://imgur.com/QsTM3
And with that, I bid you to kindly go fuck yourself. :D

Eggman, Walrus, AoS, whatever you're called - that's pretty lame. You have to have better things to do with your time, don't you? Try knitting or crossword puzzles, or perhaps sudoku. Even jerking off in a closet would be more productive. 'Cause if being a dick and hiding under so many aliases for the sole purpose of busting chops unnecessarily is the only thing driving you, you lead a very sad life and should seek professional help. Like, yesterday.

Check and Mate... Mate...
dick
Here's a good joke you could use, Don:
" You should Wear a condom on your head... Because if you're going to be a dick, you might as well dress as one." Just thought I'd tell you that one for later use ;) :))

I don't really "regret" any of my purchases, since as others have mentioned, most of the regrets seem to come from not being able sell a deck as well as the person was expecting and I don't buy decks with the intention to sell them. A few decks that I ended up not really caring for after buying them are Phoenix Apocalypse deck, Deck One and Archangels by T11, and Tragic Royalty. Nothing I made a huge investment in but I don't really like them all that much (Apocalypse deck more because it cost me more than a normal custom deck so I thought I would like it more). In general I'm pretty satisfied with my purchases though.
-
i regret buying so many of certain decks when i first started collecting. i only by a few of the decks that i REALLY like now. the only decks i get bricks of are standard decks so i can destroy them and not worry about it.
-
One of my regrets is buying more than I should on a certain limited release deck so I can resell it for a decent profit to fund my addiction ahem I meant hobby ;)

Greed, as funny as it seems, has a way of getting you back.
-
Greed? Not really. Since I buy in bulk with discounts I do resell them to at least break even. Greed is a strong word! lol
The greedy ones are the resellers who buy and sell solely for profits and puts a lot of mark up on their prices! they know who they are! ;)

Is it their fault that idiots will pay $100 for a deck that sold for $5 the week before? If recent trends are any indication, prices only drop anyway. A decade from now I bet anything that the LTD decks will cost $10 or less, if not be completely worthless. I've hypothesized this before, but I firmly believe that company decks will not retain their value, because as more companies arise, there is less desire to own every release from just one of them. A few years ago it was pretty easy owning every limited company deck. E had three and T11 had two or three. David Blaine and D&D had a couple and that was pretty much it.
Now people are looking at the countless new releases and treating them the same as they did years ago.
It just doesn't work.
When every release now is as limited as the Gold Arcanes, and every company doing the <1000 deck "special" editions, it's becoming very apparent that the bubble is close to bursting.
The best lesson I learned in collecting decks is that you should sit down and figure out -exactly- what you want your collection to consist of. Make a list of every deck you want, and in what quantity. Then buy only those. Add to that list the new releases that you really want, that you know you'll want to show off to people, etc.
So next month when there are 15 new KS projects, 20 new big company decks, and 500 small company decks coming out, it'd be pretty easy to ignore them, and focus on what is special to you.
Always remember that it should be special to you, and not someone else.
Also, if you want to save money, buy from people on the forums, on FB, etc. Scour eBay for good deals. Never buy from resellers that clearly mark up their prices.
In fact, ignoring big buck wholesalers completely saved me hundreds. I only bother with them when they have special deals or come in contact with uber rare decks (Ace King, Fullboatdealer and Pokerstud52 often have sales/rarities).
On the flipside when I started out, I lost hundreds by buying from wholesalers because it was simply put, easier. I'd buy an Absolut Vodka deck for $40 from them, when some guy on UC would be selling them for $20 a pop. Eagerness and impatience gets us nowhere.

If that's the case, than why are JN's still over $100.

Aren't they one of you?
-
JN's are special* hence it is still priced more than $100
KPopFever605, I would happily admit that I am NOT a greedy reseller coz I dont solely sell to gain massive profits. Read my previous post and make sure you read between the lines will yah? good. ;)

JNs are not company decks. They are vintage. Vintage decks rule, and also a lot more people want them outside the card world. For example there are thousands of people in this city that collect Vegas memorabilia, JNs included.
-
I feel as though the market is too saturated with companies looking to make a truly rare deck. It's almost annoying sometimes, and now it's almost unlikely you'll be able to make a substantial profit from the limited release decks you can buy. I think it'll be a long time until we see another Black Ghost 1st Edition or White Centurions in terms of pricing reflected from demand. For now, it'd be safe to say to buy decks for you, not for resale.
-
I'm not eggman but I'm not too happy about my vortex purchase either.

I second this, the Vortex deck was the first deck I funded via kickstarter and I have already received my decks for most of the other completed kickstarters. Not to mention the lack of communication, I realize that Alex has a lot of messages to respond to but hell every other kickstarter such as Paul Carpenter's Tendril, Lance Miller's projects, Sean Whalen's Galvanic, etc have all had much better communication with their backers than Alex. If he makes another deck, I will most likely just be picking it up from a reseller.
