Title: ORNATE Amethyst and Emerald
Post by: Don Boyer on December 20, 2012, 07:40:37 PM
Randy's started a topic for his new Faberge deck in the Design/Dev board where he let it slip that there will be new Ornates coming...  Here's a quote from it:

Hey everyone,

I haven't been posting on here very much lately, but I'm always checking here and UC to see what's going on so I don't miss anything. Right now I'm switching back and forth at nights working on the next ORNATE Decks and a new deck I started on - The Fabergé Deck!

I'm hoping he'll pop in here and write a little more about them!

Hey Don,

Right now I'm a little over halfway finished with the new versions. The PSD files have so many steps I need to backtrack to do even seemingly simple changes, like revising Jewel colors, it's taking a while. The goal is to get the files finished up by the end of the month. They're looking cool though! I'll tell more about the next ORNATE Decks after the holidays.

I plan on having a contest, on my Facebook page, at the beginning of January to start showing some images and the Deck names. The Tuck Boxes will have a ______ & Gold Club and a ______ & Silver Heart as the hero elements.

thanks, Randy

Thanks for the info, Randy - looking forward to it!  I know your original Ornates were a huge hit, and I'm thinking these will be equally as large if not more so.

Hi Randy.
I'm also looking forward for more images of this new deck.
You did such a great job with the Ornate's that I am sure that this deck will be fabulous. And I am very curious how will you integrate the eggs on the cards.
Keep up the good work.

Yep, the new ORNATES are Amethyst and Emerald!
The digital proofs have been approved. We'll have the physical proofs early next week and then it's up to USPCC for timing.

Besides the Tuck Boxes there's also a few other surprises with these versions. I'll wait to show those at a later time though.
The 8 normal Poker Chips are all the same as before, but we ABC be adding Purple and Green Dealer Buttons to go along
with the new Decks!

@Don, could you change the Thread Title to "ORNATE Amethyst and Emerald"?

thanks, Randy

There's very little about Randy's work that screams "LAZY" at you, as much as people like ranting against introducing new colors of decks.  I have no problem buying some of these bad boys.

And now that it's finally announced, I can also state that yes, this too will be released at HOPC.  Kevin showed me images of it a few weeks back!

Well I missed the Sapphire and Scarlet decks so I'm really forward to getting some of these.  :)

One question though, does anyone who ordered from HOPC before knows what's the international shipping like? Thanks in advance!

You can estimate it by placing an order without completing it.

See, now that was intentional!  Randy wanted to curry favor from John and me...  I said that was very nice of him but that I can't spend it like money, now can I?   :P

Shipping is cheapest comparing to E, T11, D&D, but only if you buy around a brick.
You can buy up to 14-15 decks and pay around 20$.
I'm not sure what would shipping be if you want just few decks.

I think he's got the chip maker selling his design as some of their regular stock models because they liked it so much.  Meaning the chip maker would happily put together a poker set for you, including the case.

Randy has a link on his website to pick up the chips here: http://www.abcgiftsandawards.com/ornatepokerchips.htm
It's honestly quite expensive, but I have no idea what production costs for poker chips are, especially ones with that many intricacies. And damn they're beautiful, I wish I could dish out $350 on the set.

As for the decks... Good lord, those things are gorgeous. And my 2 favorite colors! Definitely picking up a brick or so. Randy, do you plan on making those awesome brick boxes again?

I have samples of the chip set, and I've seen the ones from the first manufacturer he tried working with.  The ABC chips are quite beautiful and have solid feel to them.  Not as heavy as some ceramic chips, but they don't feel cheap in the least.

Thanks everyone! Lara, I'm just glad you finally got the Decks and Brick Boxes I sent out!!

Yep, the Poker Chips are made-to-order by Gene at ABC. The .65¢ per Chip price is pretty standard for custom Ceramic Chips. A lot of the cheaper sets out there are just ASM or plastic chips that are mass-produced. Some of the Clay Chips, like Paulsons, can cost well over $1.00 per Chip. The great thing about Ceramic Chips is you can go all the way to the edge of the Faces with the Design. I noticed the Polaris and Call of Cthulhu Poker Chips are Ceramic as well. I don't know which manufacturer they went with though.

And yes, there will be Amethyst and Emerald Brick Boxes this time around as well. I finished up the design on those this past weekend and will send them out to print soon. The turnaround time on those is only a couple weeks, so I have time while USPCC is working on the Cards.

thanks, Randy

Thanks Don!

Here's a little more info I wanted to post on the forums.

I mentioned that there's a couple surprises for the A&E Decks. The first surprise is that not only are the Gemstone colors changed in the Face Cards but the Diamond and Heart Faces have a nice Purple background!

The second surprise is really cool. I'll post info on that in a few days.

Thanks, Randy

Thanks for the kind words! I'm glad people are diggin' the purple. I think it's going to be Monday when we'll reveal the second surprise for the A&E Decks.

I'll have a Facebook contest on Monday for a Deck or 2 as well (address in my sig below). HOPC has a few going on there FB page, with the prizes being free Decks as well.

Thanks, Randy

EDIT:  I'll be having a FB contest tomorrow night at 8:00 pm EST for a set of A&E Decks and a sample set of ORNATE Poker Chips.

I think it's a good time to reveal the other surprise that will be available on Thursday night. For the ORNATE A & E Decks not only will there be custom Brick Boxes but there will also be custom 6-Pack Boxes as well!

I wanted to have a premium item available for the people who can't afford to get a full 12 Decks of each color. The 6-Pack Boxes are printed by the same manufacturer as the custom Brick Boxes and are mini versions of a standard brick!

(All of the custom Boxes will only be available with the Decks through HOPC. I won't be selling any of the new boxes separately on my site from here on out.)

thanks, Randy

Hey, thanks for pointing that up. I didn't know the brick boxes were still available for sale. I might grab a purple one later.

But, as Don noticed before, I was just wondering how cool it would be to have half-brick boxes of all Ornate 'flavors'  :)

Hey Sway, the empty Brick Boxes available in the Midnight Cards store are only the original four versions (Scarlet, Sapphire, Mix and Purple). We only printed enough of the Purple and Green boxes to go with the Decks. I don't have any of the new Brick or 6PK Boxes to sell, just a few samples of each for myself. The only way to get any of the Green or Purple boxes is by ordering them through HOPC with Decks.

I'll be shutting down the Midnight Cards store at the end of March so I can concentrate on designing Decks during my free time at night.

I agree that Scarlet and Sapphirre 6-Pack Boxes would be pretty cool. Producing them would be a $1,000+ gamble I'm not willing to take though! Especially since the matching Decks won't be reprinted.

Thanks, Randy

Since the store's STILL OPEN, I'd have to say yes, you can still order them until it closes...  (D'oh!)  Or until they sell out, whichever comes first.

Don, no kidding. Thaks for once again being the master of the obvious, and true to your normal "critical of everyone else" nature. I apologize for not asking my question in more simpler terms for you but then again, it wasn't directed to you, unless you speak on behalf of Randy.

My intent was to make sure that he had enough of all colors to keep the store open until then. He could have 3 of each color and while his intent would be to keep it open until the end of March, he might very well run out of stock before then. If his reply was "Yes, I have plenty of stock to supply me until then", then I could put off a purchase until later in the month with some confidence that there would be a good chance that he would still have stock at that point and time.

You have to admit, your statement above is much more informative than "Randy, so we can still order the S & S deck boxes until then?," especially considering that two posts earlier Randy stated his store would remain open until the end of March...  I had images in my mind of a humorous response from Randy along the lines of "No, you can't, but everyone else can!," or "No, I'm hoarding those for the zombie apocalypse - it's not like I'll need money after then anyway, right?"  Perhaps next time I will toss in a :)) to indicate the less-than-serious nature in which the comment was written.  Until then, relax and laugh a little, bro!  :))

"We've gotten tons of great comments about the beautifully detailed artwork on the new ORNATE Decks. These incredible decks sold out ultra fast when we released them earlier this month.

Today we're offering ORNATE Amethyst and Emerald uncut sheets so you can enjoy the beautiful style of the deck all the time! Like all of our sheets, these were pulled straight
off the printing presses at USPC and are not posters or replications. You're getting an authentic, uncut sheet that was saved before being cut into a deck. These sheets are highly prized by collectors around the world - and once they're gone, they're gone. Get them HERE."

In for cards, in for uncuts.

I swear, if Randy and Paul (Encarded) keep releasing designs of the same caliber that they have been in the past, I will be in the poor house in no time!! I just can't resist buying them, and probably far more of them than I should!! :-)
