Yet another SteamPunk, this time by Dragon R&D.
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/151201320/steampunk-playing-cards-visions-of-class-strife?ref=search
USPCC
funding goal is $7,250
early bird is $8, shipping for International is $3
regular price is $13, but there are incremental "early" birds at $9, $10, $11 and $12.
This project has more add-ons and stretch goals than I can follow. Buttons, uncuts, tins, prints and ... tea bags. Yes, custom tea bags that line up with the individual court cards.
The project even has a level for a gross of decks. $1,000.
EVERYTHING is one-way. The backs are one-way, and the background on the fronts make them all one-way.

I had surgery today and I've been awake about 30 hours - I'll add it to the report TOMORROW...
-
I like the design of the pips, especially the spades. However, not gonna back because much more can be done to the backs, rather than just squeezing all those "gears" together.
(I'm not a great fan of one-way backs)
-
It has too much going on for my taste. Yes the pips are nice and the Joker is interesting but with such detailed pips, the background makes it a little too busy for me. I'm also not a fan of SteamPunk so maybe that's what it is as well.
Oh well. At least the pricing isn't too bad. Nice to see a deck sell for $10 and under (at least for the early bird). Also nice to see that the international shipping isn't murderous.

Brown gears does not a Steampunk make.
-
Yeah, I have visions of the McClellan Steampunks dancing in my head right now... It's very scary...
LATE EDIT: Well, the art (what little we've seen of it so far) seems sort of nice, but the theme went from wired to tired to dead. Plus their goal seems low - $7,250 for a USPC-made deck.

I can think of something else brown that reminds me of this deck...

Hey, don't hold back - what are you REALLY thinking of...? :))

Obviously the finely prepared tea they're selling with this deck.

(Seriously... da fuq?)

Yeah, you weren't around when we saw a KS deck project go by with a guy offering his own music recorded on CDs as a reward tier...

The Eclipse deck? Yeah. That was also weird, but the deck was nice. (Never did get the MP3, though)
But... tea? Selling edibles with playing cards just doesn't gel for me.
I guess Johnny Cupcakes did it well, though.

Um, they don't actually sell cupcakes, at least not online.
BTW: don't get the second edition JC Bicycle deck. It's nearly the same as the first, but with one color for all the pips. D'oh!

No cupcakes but you get candy in the package too. :P

You talked about "selling edibles" - the candy is a giveaway!

Well, yeah. Still tasty.

I don't see the true SteamPunk in this deck. Gears are only a small part. The point of steam punk is a Futuristic view of the Victorian era with gauges, gears, steam powered devices include bizarre weapons. Any why only one face card to show? To me it looks a little like Disney Atlantis cartoon, but not as detailed. Don't get me wrong, I like the art and the artist is talented, but definitely could use some editing advice. Goes to show though, if you say Steampunk, people will buy it. I'm not buying this one though and I have been a huge fan of steampunk for 10 years now, before it was considered 'cool'.

People hear "steampunk" and think "gears", not aware that the gear-decorated jewelry and clothing have nothing to do with the genre. It's more like an affectation, a cheap/lazy way to be "part of the club" because it's become popular.
