Here's where I'm at with the back design - trying to decide between purple and gray...thoughts?

Here's the look of the four suits...

Well, if you're going to do the 4 color thing, grey.
I think the purple kinda throws of and skews the whole color balance thing you're creating.
Can't wait to see the ace of spades!

As a side note, did you ever think about shrinking the indices? They seem a bit large.

I like the look of the purple backs better, but since the front colors are so vibrant, I think grey would be more pleasing overall.

This is an interesting deck. For some reason, my 11 year old daughter (as well as a lot of friends at her school), and really into the whole moustache thing. She would love these, and I would be in for cards for her for that reason alone.

It's a strange "thing" nowadays that I honestly don't understand. Why are mustaches that "cool"?? But with that being said, I think this deck is done fairly well and not just some seemingly made just so that a mustache deck exists.

As long as there are no Hitler mustaches, I'm in.  However, I'd like to see a pencil mustachio.  The diamonds would be fun with fumanchu.

The one comment I got a lot when I was showing the original Vända decks to card players (especially older folks) was "you should make the numbers bigger so I can see 'em"...

One of the main goals of this design was to create an extremely usable deck that makes playing card games fun and easy. The 4-color solid backgrounds will make games like hearts, spades, bridge, and poker more enjoyable. Larger indices also help to increase usability. The deck is whimsical and unlike any design I've seen elsewhere.

I'm definitely leaning towards the gray back and have been experimenting with gradients on the repeating patterns.
I also have a completely different concept for the back...I like both designs so I'm curious what you folks think...

I'd do the more whimsical-looking ones - top photo, right back.

I'd also suggest, in the interests of increased visibility, making the index pips a tad larger, and perhaps even white.  I think it would make the mustaches stand out more.

BTW: when did the "o" get dropped from the word "mustache"?  It used to be "moustache"...

Tried the white pips in early development stage...was too much white, black had better balance. Also, they don't need to be that large since the suits are color-coded for easy identification :)

I've seen mustache with and without the 'o'...I think without has become the more popular version (in 'merica, at least)

In America we typically drop U's, colour, favour... but in this case we chose to mimic the Italian Mustacio that didn't have an O.  However, if I were going old world as this design appears, I'd stick with the Moustache.

Ahh. Ok. I'm seeing it more like Bicycle's Lo-vision deck now, rather than comparing it to the standard deck.
And I agree with Don. Top picture, right back.

I'm a huge fan of doing purple on a deck as well. Unfortunately, I think the deck would look better if the grey was used. But I agree, great looking deck so far!

here's an inverted version of the back...i'm thinking this cleaner look is a good idea. Plus, the design gets closer to the edges than the dark version, which will be better for fans.

Have you considered taking this design and swapping the gray for brown for a second back color design?  You could also toss in a blonde or red in there if you wanted to...

It's a nice design.  Some color, though, may look good - yes, I know, you have colored faces...

The basic design being the same, they all look good.  I'd make two decks - two different color schemes for the same back design.  Brown and black works for me.

By the way I don't think that "Fool" is a nice diminutive of Utterfool. IMHO it's an ambiguous word - newcomers can misunderstand it.

Maybe it's just me, but the Hearts and Clubs mustachios seem far too similar.  With a wealth of mustache styles (i've had many myself), I'm surprised that you'd choose two that are so similar.

I've backed quite a few projects with KS without any problems, and were hassle free. THIS project however has been a massive pain. Has anyone else backed this? Based on my experience with this, I don't think I'll be backing vanda again. He took too much on, and as a result his backers for this project has had to suffer.
Still no official update from him and it's been about 6 months. Just a little txt in the comments section explaining how he's taken too many things on.

Sorry for the little rant.

Wow  look who is making an update

Hey everyone,

I just posted a similar update on the Polaris project which I'm still finishing up…

I realize it's been far too long without an update and I apologize for that. I've managed to spread myself far too thin between work and projects. In addition to my graphic design work, I am a professional musician and have been very busy performing with orchestras and Broadway shows and that has taken up a considerable amount of my time lately. I've been quite overwhelmed with daily duties and a rapidly-accumulating task list.

The good news is that my schedule has now freed up somewhat and I can get back on track with fulfilling orders and catching up on correspondence.

I have received a few of the Mustache decks (photos below) and have scheduled delivery of the bulk of them. The decks look absolutely amazing! Honestly, this is my favorite Vända deck so far - the color palette is perfect and everything turned out exactly as I was hoping.

I'm still finishing up laser-cut items from Polaris (which has taken far longer than I expected due to limited laser machine availability and technical problems) after which I can work on the laser cutting of mustaches and boxes. Right now I expect to start shipping out orders within 3 weeks.

As with the awaiting Polaris backers, since this project is well past the expected deadline, I have decided to include a special bonus with your package as a thank you for your ongoing patience so keep an eye out for that :)

Thanks,

David

Great news! I can take this one off of my potential "successful failures" list!

Im not totally sure about that yet... I was contacted by the powers that be saying that the uncut sheets were never made.  So instead of getting uncut sheets I could get a refund(which was said to probably take a while) or choose 4 decks from a list.  So I chose the 4 decks and asked when it would ship, they said within the week or latest next week.... That was well over a month ago, lost the email so i can't confirm but probably closer to 2 months.

I decided to goto Vanda's website and inquire.  Still no response and that has been about 5 days.  Personally at this point I really don't give a shit.  I will never purchase anything with Vanda's name on it because he obviously can't get his shit together.  The cards if they ever show up will be delivered to my old house and who knows if I will ever see them.

I emailed him very professionally.  I will email him again before I move with my new address. I will probably not be so nice in the next one due to the lack of a response.
