I actually like the deck (ohgoddonthurtme)

The typefaces are elegant and are interesting to look at. The court cards are done well, and they're definitely different from the traditional two way designs. The lines are subtle, but mesh the overall theme together. It's a very cohesive design. I think that a typography deck could have been done much worse. However, I do think that an ambigram back would add so much to the deck. It would also be cool if he made the ace of spades (but only the AOS) typographic. It would add an excellent dash of variety.

But then again, I love typography and I got the early bird. $15 is definitely high.

Really great deck, fresh, new, and well executed. I know that he is going to get some heat for all the one way designs but its a very well executed deck.

I like the deck as well, it's just the backs that are turning me off them. I am not fussed about a 1 way back, it's just having the decks name on the back of every card seems odd, I would prefer it with just the heart, spade, club, diamond design.

not digging the back, but like everything else. I think this one will do well.

Likewise. It's looks a really nice deck indeed. But that back would put me off personally picking an up.

This deck is the king of beautiful one-ways! Very nice overall look but rethinking some of it to be a bit more player-friendly would be welcome. I'll keep an eye on it.

Personally, I'm just a bit tired of typographic designs.  Pips are more universal.

I like the faces, but the backs aren't very inspired and remind me of Massa decks.

The faces look great, especially the Courts. To bad they didn't use a bunch of the sweet scrollwork from the faces to build the Back Card! If the text was still in place with the scrollwork and small enough to create a pattern / backdrop it would make it better suited for a "Type Deck" and be harder to focus on just one word / logo. Sort of like the Love Me Deck but with scrollwork mixed in.

thanks, Randy

I have quite a few typography decks in my collection, and this deck is one of the best typography decks I've seen. I'm looking forward to seeing the aces.

Hey guys! I'm Chris, the designer of The Type Deck.

Thanks for the comments and feedback on the deck. Over the weekend I have been redesigning the backs of the cards, as I've seen the responses from the forums and how they'd like to change it. I was hoping to get some feedback on the designs from you guys.  I've attached an image for you all to take a look at.

-

The mirrored pattern still needs some more attention but at least you guys can picture what i'm thinking.

As this is a typography based card deck, I kind of feel it needs to have some form of typography shown on the backs, but not too crazy like before. Maybe like B or C?

No.4 - this has an extra shadow pattern behind. I like this one, but I don't think if I was to use this, i'd have to rethink the tuck box etc and from looking at the quotes, It will add another $1,000 for the additional foil colour to the existing 3 (if it hits the target).

What are your opinions / suggestions?!

Thanks!

Now I'm liking this deck even more, the new backs look great!

Any of the new backs would look fine - though it's still worth noting that they're all still one-way designs, just like the original was.  The pips are the giveaway, just like on the Massa deck.

I vote D.  I don't like words on the card back, type deck or not.

I like D as well, although I was already happy with the existing back.

A or D.
But would it be possible to make a 2 way back, if you're going to eliminate the "Type deck"?

It's possible, sure - it's a matter of if he wants to or not.  Some people like one-ways and it works; some don't.

Well, after looking at different routes for the backs...I think this is the final. There are plenty of other versions but I want balance in the design and it's very difficult to achieve that with this pattern! However, this one is looking v promising! What do you guys think?

Cheers!

I'm OK with the new back!
The "Type deck" is unobtrusive and the back is (for the most part) 2 way.
Nice job!

This looks good - and two-way.  I like it.  You want a simple yet elegant back for this deck design, something that won't distract from the design of the faces.  I think you've achieved it.

Hi everyone.

I just want to give you more of an insight into whats been happening, as understandably some of you are anxious about getting the rewards. I really didn't want to air my issues out, but given the unpleasant comments I've been receiving from some, I feel its now necessary.

Sometimes life can be sh*t, and for the last few months, thats what I have been dealing with and unfortunately its impacted on every aspect of my life, including being able to work and this project. More recently I have been to some of the darkest places that I just never want to go back to ever again. you really couldn't make up the issues that I have been faced with over the course of the last few months. This is not a sob story, its the truth. So much so, I am now getting help in order to help me get well again and the medication is beginning to work. So please, just bare with me. Some of you may not believe or understand my situation, however if it comes to me having to upload scans of my medical certificate (which are dated) and medication then I will. As I said before, I don't like to air my issues to you all but I feel it may help you understand and stop the nasty comments because they really aren't helping and are just demoralising.

So where does this project stand right now? The past few days I have been feeling more positive and the creative juices are beginning to flow again. I'm currently progressing work on the hearts suit again. The Spades suit is completely finished and set up for production, so that one's ticked off!

I currently haven't confirmed a date with USPCC for the printing, as I want the artwork to be closer to completion before I am comfortable about committing to a print date.

Design is my passion and I intend it to be my future. I have no intention of jeopardising my career by not delivering on this project. I can't stop those few people who are determined to circulate negative comments about this project but for those of you who wanted answers, this is my candid response.

Due to my circumstances, I've not been able to work, so now all my energy is focused on progressing this project. I'm still not in a position to specify a date yet but in the spirit of Kickstarter, I will be fulfilling all rewards as promised, be it later than any of us would have liked.

Thank you for reading this,

Chris

Stop the presses - this back actually IS a one-way back.  In the attached image, you'll notice that you have alternating rows of spades/hearts and clubs/diamonds.  There's seven rows of clubs/diamonds, so the middle row is pointing in a single direction, thus acting as a one-way mark.

There's a simple solution to this.  Make the middle row of the back all diamonds - no directional markers.  Then use rows of only one style of pips instead of two, emanating from the center line of the card back.  For example, the middle row would be diamonds, one row above and below would be clubs, two rows above and below would be hearts, three rows above and below would be spades and so on.
