Imagine a deck with a style that's like a fusion of Virtuoso and Jerry's Nuggets that was made in the same factory as the Legends decks. OK, we can't confirm the last part, but they handle and feel like them, that's for certain!
This deck is to promote a Hong Kong street fashion brand of the same name. Zenneth Kok discovered it, but not until all but just over 900 of the decks have been sold! He's working on a deal with the company behind them to get as much of the remaining stock as he can over at the Coterie of Prestidigitation Artists - when they arrive, quantities will be EXTREMELY LIMITED.
Keep your eyes open for them. You'll get new info as soon as I get new info!

What's in it for Coterie of Prestidigitation Artists? What's to stop us from buying right from the source? Why tell us about it before he's secured the decks?
-
Virtuoso and Jerry's Nuggets
Nailed that one.
Man, this looks cool. I can't find any of the clothing online, but I'd expect them to be pretty modern. I'm excited for this, but given my wallet contents I'd say it's pie in the sky for me.
It's going to be interesting to see the court cards.

Well, if your Mandarin is up to snuff, you can find their website AND they'll ship to your country, go for it. If not...
It's a similar situation to the recent Truth Garden decks and aloysstudio.com - the fatboy deck being released to a domestic (for them) audience first, then globally through coterie1902.com.

I tried to find it as well, unsuccessfully - it's possible that the FB page is their online presence and that the clothing is only available through brick-and-mortar stores.

Don, thanks a lot for the head up.
The fatboy deck is a very nice discovery and surprise for us, here are a few things that I can share with you guys.
fatboyeatallday is a Hong Kong street fashion brand/online store, they use a lot of triangle elements within their designs.
This deck is not designed by or for magicians, hence there are only 54 cards in the deck and one red, one black joker.
My first impression of the back design is that it looks like the Virts deck and Jerry's Nugget a lot, however, according to the designer, the color combination was inspired by his favourite softdrink: Pepsi :)
I tried the deck myself and here is what I think about the hand feel and paper stock of this deck:
The paper stock is quite hard and very snappy, you can expect this deck to be a very durable deck.
The cards are "locked", so they are pretty good for both card flourishes and card magic moves,
They only customized Jokers and Ace of Spades, other cards are pretty standard looking.
You need to use a specific way to do faro shuffle with this deck: hold the deck face down and start from bottom of the packet
We have reached an agreement of making all the remaining fatboy decks exclusively available at Coterie, however, there are only a little less than 1000 decks still in stock anyway. We are indeed giving a bit of priority to local collectors, however, we will make at least 600 decks available on Coterie.
While we can't do much about international shipping, the deck themselves will not be marketed as a rare deck,
so that's probably a good news to many.
Cheers,
Zenneth
P.S. Garden Truth wasn't marketed through Coterie...

Don, thanks a lot for the head up.
No problem - thanks for stopping by.
P.S. Garden Truth wasn't marketed through Coterie...
Never meant to imply otherwise - I re-edited the text to reflect that.
-
I am travelling between mainland China and Hong Kong very often these days for my personal business,
so it's very difficult for me to follow up the development of Coterie products as well as customize deck releases, but my passion for cards has never been diminished,
will visit discourse and UC now and then.
Hopefully we can submit a finalized Coterie custom deck designs to USPCC after I return to Hong Kong next month.
Cheers,
Zenneth

Now THAT sounds like good news!

Zenneth just announced that fatboyeatallday decks will be on the Coterie tomorrow night. The exact description given was:
Available on Coterie1902.com 25th June 2013 20:00 P.M. (UTC+08:00)
20:00 - (+8:00 time difference) = 12:00 UTC = 4:00pm EDT and 7:00pm PDT in North America.
-
By my calculation, it's 8:00am Eastern.
-
Guys,
Thanks for the supplementary explanation on the time zone.
There's no surprise or anything with this release, only a bit more than 700 decks and even price can be viewed here:

Pretty good deal - 10 decks, set of new fan backs and free shipping for $115.
-
These are now available for purchase on the Coterie site.
-
it kept telling me that i didn't have cookies turned on within my browser... then i realized that i couldn't click proceed to paypal; i just had to wait.
-
Order placed! I'm glad that I checked The Discourse this morning. I had these ion my calendar for an afternoon release. I may have missed the boat if I had waited until then!
Gunshy, click on the link for help and it will tell you how to change the cookies setting to work. I'm an IT Admin, and I've never had to do this for any other site, so I'm not sure what kind of setup Coterie has, but the errors went away when I did as they instructed. Once the checkout was complete, I changed the settings back to what they were before.
-
Yeah, I think the second half of the timezone calculation posted above was flipped. 12pm EDT = 4pm UTC. Not 12pm UTC = 4pm EDT.
EDT is -4 hours UTC. So 4 hours back from 12pm UTC is 8am EDT. :)

It wasn't that I didn't have cookies on it was that I had to wait for the site to direct me to PayPal on its own. I guess clicking the button cause an error. It all worked out I ended up getting four.

First, guys, my apologies for screwing up the time calculations. It should have been 8am Eastern and 5am Pacific. It was late and I was tired.
Second, these look GREAT. I have to hold off a little until I have some cash, so if they're still in stock Thursday morning, perhaps I'll get some then.
-
I guess most people should be aware of the correct release time, not too much a big problem here, we have a bit more than 1 gross of stock left in stock at the moment.
Considering this is a non-USPCC release, I would say they are going fast enough.

-
Wow, really surprised that I managed to get some of these. It's around 24 hours since they were released!
-
For the last couple of days, I have been practicing with the fatboy deck alone.
While the deck is not any thicker than a standard USPCC deck, for some reasons they are a lot more stiff.
Unlike Legends, fatboy doesn't have a glossy finish on the surface of cards, so there seems to be more friction.
Cards become a bit more softer after break in, so...for me it's getting better...
Just now I switch back to a custom deck by USPCC and then it feels totally different from the way that I used to feel about it...
I don't know how to describe such feeling, but I believe fatboy may well become many people's favorite practice deck.

I pcked up four. Idk if they r gone yet, but if they run out before you. Have a chance to get one I'd be more than happy to trade one to you. And don't worry, I'd ask for something easy.

That's very nice of you, bro. I'll consider your offer. I have come to realize, though, that unless this custom deck market suddenly shrinks dramatically, there's no way I can own every deck that comes out, or even every deck that catches my eye, especially ones that are this rare.
Drop me a PM when you get yours.
-
The fact is the deck is still available on Coterie site!

Great. The deck is on the site. It doesn't put enough cash in my bank account to buy it, though. My vacation savings have been shot to hell because of car repairs.
-
Fatboys arrived today as I was leaving for work. I was expecting the tuck to mirror the card backs. Quite the opposite. Absolutely subdued and quiet. I'll try to post a pic when I get home tonight unless someone beats me to it.
-
Here's the pics of the FBEAD deck for anyone that's interested. Pretty sexy case IMHO.

That is kinda sweet. Yes, I wish I bought one. Yes, I can live without one, however, when there are other expenses in life to consider. (Drat. I'm just too practical.) :))
-
Can anyone that has received the deck briefly describe the courts? I'm sure they'll be standard seeing as this deck is more to advertise and promote the brand but curious anyway. :))

Reminds me a really bad joke that I said to my ex's mom. Once I did a few card tricks for her and she asked me whether I was using "trick decks", I said I am in a relationship now so my financial status couldn't afford me to buy those really expensive trick decks...
hmmm....
Can anyone that has received the deck briefly describe the courts? I'm sure they'll be standard seeing as this deck is more to advertise and promote the brand but curious anyway. :))
yup, indeed very standard looking courts...and no gaffs, 54 cards only
Though, if fatboys were to release new decks, I am pretty sure they will make much more alternations and make it more appealing to collectors.
The fact is the deck is still available on Coterie site!
yup...still have 35 of them in stock?
-
Got the deck the other day and had some time to play with it; it's amazing. Stiff but not as thin as the legends. No real plastic coated feel. Cards stick when you want them to, but slide with ease. Elegant and minimal design is very eye catching. Weaves will take some breaking in of the deck to become fluid. Overall, it's a great find!

Thanks for the reply and info as always! :)) I don't know why I love the backs (simplicity? color? slick geometric design?) but this amount of customization is good enough for me!
-
the cards are great after some breaking in, unfortunately the tuck box is cheap and boring.
-
I am much preferring these and the legends to anything I own from the uspcc lately. I would love more custom decks from this playing card manufacturer
This are a tad softer than the legends out of the box but feel thicker ( that could just be in my head). The deck clings together very well but stil fans well enough, but not as smoothly as the legends.
-
I gotta say though, the thin boarders are incredibly consistent and near flawless. Not sure how they were able to achieve it, but would love to know.

Because when the printer actually cares about the product it puts out, and not about money like USPC a few years ago and im some examples today, you actually get a really amazing product that is centered and handles really well, like Legends.
