Title: Tendril Ascendant (Encarded)
Post by: BastianBJ on September 04, 2013, 05:20:53 PM
Tendril Ascendant.

"This is not a recolor. Not a boring version two. This is a whole new custom deck, aiming to honor the designs of our past, but also rise above them. It is infused with Encarded DNA. It is Tendril • Ascendant" - Encarded.com

Barely any info about the deck yet other than being the next version of the original Tendril deck.
Description about the deck at Encardeds website: http://encarded.com/tendrilascendant

That's a a really sexy design. It keeps well with the theme of the first one, wherein the back looks random but is actually symmetrical.

I hope Paul changes up the colors a bit to make the green pop more.

Ha ha.

I'm thinking this is that collaboration project we've been hearing about between him and Jackson.  The fine line work that looks like a banknote is a dead giveaway!  :))

I'd love to see where this is heading, it looks like a lovely concept. I can imagine the fans looking perfect with these backs. The texture/layering work is just amazing, typical from Encarded. Paul, I would like to request a review copy. :P

Very cool Paul.

You did an excellent job giving the back design a strong enough connection to the Tendril that it is easily recognized as being a follow up to the original, yet is definitely not just a quick re-edit of the first design and makes it unique.

Pantone metallic 10323C may correct that particular aspect. I want this deck a little more subtle than the original Tendril, but yeah it could use a little more "pop." Still so many things to experiment with...

Just to clarify, this is not the collab with Jackson. The original Tendril had the fine geometric lines in the background and I wanted to bring to a new level. I can admit that my (near daily) chats with the talented Mr. Robinson did give me a couple ideas that I pursued here. I can also say that the shape of that "web" is not entirely arbitrary and may just coordinate with other things...

Absolutely love that back!

Will the courts be in the same style of the first Tendril deck? Or are you going for a complete re-design?
Title: Re: Tendril Ascendant (Encarded)
Post by: Paul Carpenter on September 08, 2013, 12:57:03 PM
Most folks seem to like the tendril court a lot and I'm quite partial to them myself. My current plan is to use them as a base but increase the detail, patterns and coloring to give them a fresh look.

This is still on deck and should see a release in the coming year. I have several things in the works and Tendril is one of them! I've been pondering ideas and making tweaks...

Thanks for letting me know this one is still interesting. :)

I tend to focus on the current project release, so Zenith has been on my mind the most for the last couple months. However, I do have the Ascendant back in a print-ready state and am refining the face design and layouts. We'll get that rolling...

Even as digitally printed prototypes, Tendril Ascendant and Nightfall have some serious intensity. When these are printed by USPCC they should both be amazing, and worthy successors to the original. Coming soon to Kickstarter.

Thanks guys. It was fun working on adding some "dimensionality" to these. I imagine that the full out USPCC press will result in some really nice pop of both these designs. These two will be a Kickstarter and probably will appear within a few weeks. I'm building the campaign now and adding in all those details.

Haha, right? I'm pretty excited about this KS. The timing for me is pretty ouch though. I may re-evaluate some of my current pledges and work from there. That will likely be the case. haha, too much goodness landing at the same time. If it ends in January, everything's golden. Anyway you twist it, MegaTuck, if it's there I'm all over that too haha.

I find it weird that he have rewards structured in a way that no one can have both the mega tuck and the special edition Ascendant tuck, unless they use 2 KS accounts.

I agree I wish he could have combined the two for a few pledges. Having the handmade versions in the handmade megatuck probably isn't something that would work well. A megatuck and then the others for $200 would have been a cool pledge slot. I would have pounced on it like it was a plate of buffalo wings.

If you're in the first X backers you should still get the limited seal, I don't know how he's going to sort through that but odds are good you'll get them if you're in there I'd imagine.
Title: Re: Tendril Ascendant (Encarded)
Post by: Encarded Inc. on December 01, 2014, 01:06:24 PM
I know a lot more people want things like the MegaTuck or Special Edition. Unfortunately, hand making things is a truly time consuming thing. It's really easy to say "sure, I'll make 100 megatucks" but then you hit the reality of spending hours, and hours, and hours, and hours making them and ensuring they are as perfect as you can. I could just mass produce them, but that would defeat the purpose of offering something unique that no one else could replicate.

So, as with anything, it's a big balancing act. I totally understand if you missed out and are bummed. Trust me, I'm not a heart-breaker by nature, but with Encarded, a real job, 2 kids and a wife I only have so many hours in the day. Lol. :D
