A new deck coming soon from Ellusionist. They sure pump these out fast! Theme -as far as the teaser shows- strongly resembles the Fathom deck (Fire instead of water of course).
Pictures via their Facebook:
The second picture also seems to tease the back design (behind the Fathom card). Borderless and very striking.. maybe a little too much. Though way too early to judge.
-
I'm surprised no one has made a thread until now. But yes, your theory is correct. To me, I'd say IT'S ABOUT TIME to make a new deck like this. And I just love Ellusionist's approach at how they're changing the whole element opposed to just a single color. I do believe that they'll stick with the Fathom name, just with another sub-name included.
To say the least, I'm uber excited about what Ellusionist is releasing next, and I can't wait to see more teasers. :))
-
I do believe that they'll stick with the Fathom name, just with another sub-name included.
I'm almost certain that it wont be called Fathom. Fathom is a unit of measurement that is almost always used in context with water.
'Heat' as Ellusionist calls the teaser pictures, is probably too bland and simple. I'm sure they'll eventually come up with some sophisticated word to represent the fire theme. Blaze, Inferno, Ember, Luminosity, Pyre, Flare, Radiate, Ferocity, Vehemence and Frenzy are my best guesses/only words in my vocabulary that i can associate with fire =p

Of your guesses, only Blaze, Inferno, Pyre, Flare and Radiate more directly connect to fire. Luminosity applies to light more than fire, while Ferocity, Vehemence and Frenzy are more like animal or human traits/actions, all implying at least a minimal level of intelligence or instinct which fire lacks. We use them occasionally to describe fires, especially destructive ones, because people will often anthropomorphize "the boogeyman" or anything they fear, particularly forces of nature. Those terms could as easily be applied to a wild tiger or gorilla.
The thing I can definitely agree with is that this deck will not have the name "Fathom" on it. Fathom has absolutely nothing to do with fire - it's usually either a measure of water depth or a synonym of "understand." When Fathom was released, they stated that they'd be making a deck for each of the four elements. After the "fire deck", we still have earth and wind to look forward to. I'm already picturing the ad photos on the deck's page at E - who wants to bet they show cards on fire, actually burning?
-

Of course. The other words relate more to the explosiveness of light/energy, which is pretty close to a direct connection to heat/fire. I included them also as my guesses because the the term 'Fathom' isnt a direct synonym of water/ocean. Thus, this deck will also likely follow the indirect implication trend of representing the fire theme. This is simply my hypothesis and my guesses are close to useless.
-
Oops. Didn't know quite that much.
who wants to bet they show cards on fire, actually burning?
Now, that's just cruel. :P

Not more so than displaying them floating around in water...

Awwwww Yeeeeeeeah
Gotta love those pips. If they put as much effort into this deck's courts as they did fathom's courts, I'm definitely going to be picking a pack up.
As for the name, they could continue with the "measurement" theme, and call this deck Centigrade, or Fahrenheit, or whatnot.

I doubt it. What would they use for earth and air? Pounds? Tons? Kilos? Cubic Centimeters?
-
dont have idea abt earth, but Air i think stinky smell could be a name :D
-
You know somewhere on this site I think I posted my idea of doing this idea. Ellusionist beat me to the punch.

Flames Deck. Here is a pic E posted earlier.

Jiizzzzzzzzzzz in my pantssss
Hopefully the actual deck is this intense and not just because of 3258238523 filters.

By the way, the deck isnt officially called the 'Flame' deck. Ellusionist used that word in the same teaser format as the last 'heat' teaser.
-
Cold as Ice.
-
It's coming out absolutely stunning, and I'm loving the shade of red they placed on it. Although there may be filters, I'm pretty sure the color will remain somewhat similar.
As for the name, I would love for it to be called Inferno, but I have a feeling that's a little bit too harsh.

Plus, BBM already made the "Karnival Inferno".
Love that spread. Those little swatches of lighter flame near the edge would make for an absolutely killer great fan.

I'd totally buy the "Cubic Centimeters deck". ;D

Don called it!
Looks as if this is a deck box, with the name containing two words. Makes you take things into consideration.
-
Wow, that looks hot - no pun intended. Reminds me a little of the Bicycle Fire and Lava decks from K3 Studios
-
Two words, I wouldn't be surprised if it was "Wild Fire".
-
I'm certain it's "Ignite"
-

It's hard to tell, but I'd say yours is the closest guess so far.

What actually happened is that Don called it, then ellusionist's more epic hype meter wire tapped don's comment then they called an emergency photoshoot and then lit the deck on fire. For some reason I feel like the flames and water from the last deck were more inspired by crappy six flags airbrush t-shirts when they should have been looking a ZZtop flames. just my opinion though.

You don't honestly believe that I wield that much influence, well, ANYWHERE, do you? I can't even get my stepson to go to bed on time...

"Fire Crotch" Maybe thats the name. Does the carpet match the jokers drapes? Lol

Along with being referred to as the "Ignite Deck."
"The Ignite Deck. Coming Wednesday."

That is an absolutely gorgeous back. The fans have so much flare! Im not sure if i can say the same about the jokers though.. They look extremely bland and underwhelmed compared to the back. I still love these though! Im a collector, so still not sure whether id rather these limited or not (it would most likely make sense to be unlimited since Fathom is.. So that they can eventually roll out all 4 elements and put together an overpriced set (the last element might be limited).
PS: Wednesday is 9/11.. The whole theme of te deck is fire/ignition based, even the name is suggestive. Is this a coicidence couped with bad planning, or a crazy marketing stunt? Surprised no one has picked this up yet.. Im from Australia so itll be released on the 12th for me. Im sure i represent a small minority though.

I personally like the jokers! I will agree that they seem a little bland when compared to the back but I like the fact the face of the jokers (the bodies of the women) extend to the edge of the card. It would be hard to hide when mixed into the deck unless oriented correctly but I think it's fresh compared to all the jokers that are confined to the middle of the card face.

I can't say for anyone else but I'm rarely conscious of the date when the release date is within the current week. :-[ But that definitely is a very interesting coincidence or marketing scheme. I don't want to make a big deal out of it because I don't really think it is but it is curious.

Personally i am also rarely concious. As an Australian we have less of a personal connection. However i know how much some people care about this kind of stuff and thus it may seem incredibly insensitive on E's part for such a stunt, coincidence or not.
-
Ellusionist is based here in California, and there are fires all over the state right now. I'm wondering if they did their ad for this deck in Yosemite.

I would agree with you that it is insensitive if E didn't realize it whatsoever. I was trying to play devil's advocate by writing a response that included giving them the benefit of the doubt and how they probably know it'll be 9/11 and blah blah blah but I just couldn't think of a good marketing reason. The only thing I could come up with is the incident occurred 12 years ago and so maybe they think it's not necessarily sensitive but in "honor" of? Either way, it's all speculation unless someone from their design team confirms one way or another.

Even for people like me, who had to live through September 11, 2001 in one of the directly-affected cities, enough time has passed at this point. While most of us will never forget the events of that day, no matter how much we may or may not want to, the name of this deck is at best distantly connected to those events and shouldn't be any cause for concern. It's like saying a Hawaiian shirt with a firecracker motif would be an insensitive thing to release on December 7, 1953 - the twelfth anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Even the most-directly affected survivors, those who lost someone close to them in the attack, have for the most part moved on with their lives, as their lost loved ones would have wanted them to. Grief is meant as a transitional state, not a permanent way of life.

Although I wholeheartedly agree with this and attribute why I think it shouldn't be a big deal to this, I still think it is interesting to name a deck Ignite and release it on 9/11. Possibly coincidence and more probably not done with any harm. Just seems too coincidental.
Regardless of what the deck is named, I think it is looking like a great deck to continue the Elemental Series (what I'm calling it in my head). The LePaul spread in the most recent pictures Froggo put up look amazing with the bold coloring of the backs.

I think that Ellusionist themselves are calling these decks the "Elemental" series or something similar.

And hey, I'd be happy regardless of if this turned out to be a cigar or an unsmokable ten foot pole. The deck should be bought and judged on its own merit.
And I wasn't sure what they were calling it so just so I don't get accused of making up names for a deck series I have to make it clear it's an opinion. I mean it makes scene to be an "Elemental series" but hey, who knows what E has up their sleeves. They could call the series whatever they want right? For all we know this is deck two of the "Nature series" or "Phenomena decks."

How about the "Conspiracy series"? Fun fact: The Fathom deck was officially released on the 23th of November. The same day MS Explorer, a cruise liner carrying 154 people, sank in the Antarctic Ocean south of Argentina after hitting an iceberg near the South Shetland Islands in 2007.
OoooooOOoooooo love me some conspiracy! :p

So, the earthquake deck will come out on the anniversary of the Great Earthquake of San Francisco and the air deck will come out on the anniversary of the crash of the Hindenburg... Or wait - that could be the fire deck as well... But if they used the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, that could be water and earth, and maybe even fire thrown in for good measure... And what about the day I tripped on the sidewalk, grabbed my shin and went "Oooooh - (intake of air) - aaahhh" like Peter Griffin...? Or the crash of the Peter-Copter? Or the attack on Hoth!?!

Rumor has it if you collect all 4 elements you'll be able to make a super morphing playing card ninja robot. Lol -3 -4 -5 -6...

It comes out timed with the release of two Justin Miller effects.

Direct from Ellusionist's facebook:
Out of respect for the date on Wednesday, we have decided to keep it release-free. This week's goodness will be out on Thursday to everyone - and is already out to Black Club Members.

Haha! Guess it was just coincidence after all. :P

Almost hard to believe no one on their marketing team didn't notice that. But like I already said, I didn't even think of it cause it was 12 years ago.
-
Asked this question yesterday to clear up the controversy. Didn't receive a response until this morning:
We were completely unaware of any controversy. There's no connection between those events and our cards. This series is based on the elements.
Here the ad copy from Fathom:
The voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes. When we took our world apart and examined its make up, we were left with four simple elements. Earth. Air. Fireā¦ and Water.
This is the first of those discoveries, born from the graceful flow of water.
This is from the Ignite page:
The second release in the Origin Series, Ignite Playing Cards captures golden flames, glowing embers and the smoldering black char of a scorching inferno.
From the blazing ace of spades on the front of the box, to the world of flames on the back, there is no mistaking the theme of this deck.
Featuring line-art embellished pips, court cards colored in the orange glow of a dying hearth, and polarized jokers, reds and blacks in contrast, for a color-change illustrating the very name of the deck; Ignite.
Conjure the spirit of fire and set your performances alight.
As you can see, we're working off the theme of the four elements from ancient thought. As far as I know, there is also an air and earth deck planned though they haven't been designed yet. We are a magic company, we're not looking to make political statements.
I will also add that we have delayed the release of the deck in respect to the date. The public release will be tomorrow.
Have a great day!
Also explains how they're calling this series the "Origin Series". Seems fitting.
-

Ellusionist: wat, no. k.

Courts. Wow, absolutely stunning. Definitely not left disappointed!
-
Wonder why they decided to add squares to the adjacent corners of the cards. Don't think I've seen that before.

Love those courts!
-
Oh wow i never even got to the courts of Fathom cos i couldnt get pass its back design! They are gorgeous! Looks to be a promising series by Ellusionist! Can anyone in Black club confirm whether the deck will be limited/unlimited? Cheers.

Nowhere it says limited.
-

Huh. Didn't notice those at first. Cool.
-
Fathoms were not limited so I assume these aren't. But seeing that the courts seem to have a theme is nice since the Fathom courts were decent. "Origin Series" has a nice ring to it to me. Looking forward to the earth and wind based decks!
-
Official release 12th September 4pm EST!
Edit: Now available!

As for the name, they could continue with the "measurement" theme, and call this deck Centigrade, or Fahrenheit, or whatnot.
I doubt it. What would they use for earth and air? Pounds? Tons? Kilos? Cubic Centimeters?
They could go with 'Pascal' or 'Newton' for Earth, which would not only be using a measure used when determining how strong the material is, i.e. how many kilo-Newtons it takes to break, but also paying homage to a scientist, who I feel never get as much good publicity as they should sometimes.
As for Air, 'Bar' is a good name.
Though, the scientifically-minded may have realised that in both cases the units used as for pressure/weight, so who knows?

Ladies and gentlemen - Ronyo Faukx, professional straight man! Will take any joke and make a dead-serious reply to it... :))

But your still not an official member. You have to wait till Don writes 3 paragraphs in response to your post. Ask him something small. He will talk forever about it. He really is an old guy.

Hey, I'm not old until I fart dust... But I am long-winded. That I can't deny.
-
Can someone explain me why the King of Hearts has two left hands in both decks?

Don, at our age. I don't think it's dust we need to worry about.

The courts are derived from the Infinity deck, it is the same there. I guess no one noticed it before it was printed, and then they probably just stuck with it for these two decks.

I haven't opened my Fathom but I saw someone show the king of hearts from both decks back on page three. This is the king of hearts from Infinity for comparison.

That's... interesting. I NEVER would have guess they were the same :P
-
I don't think I ever noticed the two left hands. I actually like it even if it's a little unconventional.
-
I'm definitely gonna buy this deck. Do anybody know any other cool decks with fire theme?
-
The only two I can think of are the Transducer and Asura decks.
-
Transducer, Asura... I like both of them. I have Asura and I recently wanted to buy Transducer, but actual prize is over $20 - it doesn't worth it in my opinion.
Yeah, nice decks, but none of them has fire theme. You can barely find any flames on them :(

First, welcome to the boards. You should make an "Introduce Yourself" topic sometime and get to know the gang.
How about the Bicycle Karnival Inferno? It's more of a devil-themed deck but it has plenty of flame-y images on it. That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

(Just havin' fun with the new guy - it means we like you...)
And that's my problem. I'm too professional and straight for the market to hire.
Interviews revolve around them asking questions, which I give straight answers to, as opposed to the standard 2 shovelfuls of BS they've come to expect. Instead, they hire the BS-artist with the charisma of a fluffy kitten, and all the business/industry knowledge of a baked potato.
Makes me mad! :-[

I don't think I ever noticed the two left hands...
sealed decks :)

Thanks. I'll write the topic in a minute.
Bicycle Karnival Inferno - that's what I meant, one fiery deck. I totally forgot about them. However in comparison with Ignite they loose in my opinion. The design is too chaotic and "filled" for my taste. What do you think?

Most of the Karnival line is an acquired taste. Some take to it quickly, some never take to it at all. I'd say for for every person who can't stand to see another one of their skull-adorned, demonic-looking decks, there's about one person who thinks they're totally awesome card designs.
The two "universal truths" about the entire line, regardless of whether you love it or hate it, are that until Karnival Dead Eyes, they weren't exploring custom work quite as much as their fans would have liked - and all the decks before that suffered from "the shakedown period" - that period of time which ran roughly from halfway through 2009 until twelve to eighteen months later, when USPC first moved to the new Kentucky plant and was working out the kinks with the new equipment. A number of decks really suffered, particularly in terms of finish/handling, which were produced in that period. By the end of 2010, though, they seemed to have gotten a handle on things to the point that from then on, all their custom work was and is superior to anything they made in Cincinnati since the days of cotton and linen finish application rollers. Their standard Bicycle line took a slight hit because they seem to have gone just a little lower on the quality, though, presumably as a cost cutting measure. I haven't noticed enough of a difference in either Bees or Tally Ho decks to make a judgment call on them - I haven't yet handled any that were made between 2011 and the present.

Good to know that. I'm guessing you're living encyclopedia of knowledge of playing cards.

Funny you mention that Don, I've been looking at a lot of decks over the last few weeks and Karnival Dead Eyes, was the only Karnival deck that made my wanted list.

You should check out the Bicycle Karnival Dose Redux as well. Those have some great designs.
BTW: just like Ellusionist, most if not all of their entire line have subtle one-way backs (of varying subtlety).
