Title: 10,000,000th Page View Contest! Prize: Red Exquisites Signed by Bill Kalush!

As of a few moments ago, the board had 9,583,425 page views since the moment the doors first opened.  The number, of course, keeps climbing.  I thought it would be nice to celebrate the day that view #10,000,000 occurs, so we're having a contest!

It's very simple.  You get ONE entry TWO entries.  Write a post here with the date that you think the 10,000,000th view will happen.  Posting more than one entry disqualifies all entries you have made.  Editing your entry disqualifies your entry.  So when you pick your day, make it count!

I will be checking the board at 8PM EST every day (that's 5PM PST and 1AM the following day UTC/GMT) for the total page views.  When we reach 9,900,000 entries, I will announce that ALL ENTRIES WILL BE CLOSED and no new entries will be accepted.  When we reach 10,000,000 views, I will take all the correct guesses and hold a random drawing among them at random.org.  The winner of that drawing will receive one Red Exquisite deck, created by the Expert Playing Card Company - the deck won't even be released until 6pm tonight, but I already have one, courtesy of CARC founder and owner William Kalush, which he has graciously donated for this contest.

The red version of this deck is the rare version, and to make it even more rare, Bill has signed the deck.  All Red Exquisites come shipped in an exclusive deck jacket made especially for that deck - your deck will be signed on the deck jacket, so the deck itself will remain sealed in its original cellophane, perfect for retaining its value since it doesn't have a paper seal!  It's also great for allowing you to display the autographed deck!

Remember the contest rules, happy guessing and I will post photos of the autographed deck shortly (as well as my opened pack so you can see what the prize looks like inside)!  Good luck, everyone!

EDIT: just added the photo!  My opened pack of reds and the sealed pack signed by Bill.  It has those really cool "old school" faces on the courts, with the usual custom King heads.

EDIT: a chart to see who is choosing what date.  No guarantees it is up to date at any given moment, so check your local listings...

EDIT: New rule - at nearly 9,800,000 I permitted all players to place a second guess to help negate the effect of people who may be attempting to boost the page views and trigger an early 10,000,000th view.  NO NEW GUESSES PERMITTED after Curt or I have declared we're past the 9,900,000th view mark.

EDIT: the limit has been reached - NO NEW ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED!  Best of luck to you all!

I've already posted nearly 14% of all the posts on this board!  Done as an average that includes all of the lurkers who've never posted, the average is slightly better than one post per five days.  In that same time frame, I produce nearly SEVENTY-SIX posts on average...

The board's been running approximately 800 days (last week of September, 2012) and to date has almost 84,400 posts.  That's 105.5 posts on average per day.  Assuming that rate remained the same, we wouldn't hit post #10,000,000 until the 94,787th day of operation, or approximately 260 YEARS from opening day...  That would be the year 2273 CE - it is highly unlikely that anyone alive and posting here will live to see that day, and in fact by then the Internet will probably be replaced with some wholly different technology not yet invented, just as we don't do much communicating by telegraph or signal fires these days...

Anyway - Some people have commented about how they think someone's inflating the page views in order to trigger the 10,000,000th view earlier than normally would have occurred without a contest.  I also noticed that some of you, not realizing how quickly page views go by, made some REALLY, REALLY distant future guesses which, if someone is indeed juicing the guesses, means you don't stand a chance.

Effective NOW, you may make a second entry!  It's still a matter of choosing the correct date and remember that if you aren't the only one to guess the correct date, you'll be in a random drawing with the others who guess the same date.  PLEASE mark your second entry as "Second Entry" in the first line of your post.

I did this to more effectively level the playing field and give the wild guessers a better shot.  In addition, as a nice little consolation prize, I'm throwing in three Bicycle Americana decks - these will go to one person in a random drawing of all the LOSING guesses!  So even if you lose, you might just win!  (I'm feeling the Christmas spirit - and I have a LOT of Bicycle Americanas...)

AT THE MOMENT that Curt reports the 8PM EST count exceeds 9,900,000 - NO MORE ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED.

You still get a second entry like everyone else...  You could use it two ways:

1) If you're super-confident you picked the correct day, double down on that day and you'll have double the odds in the random drawing, or
2) If you aren't completely certain, pick a second day, perhaps next to the first, to broaden your chances of being in a winning-date drawing in the first place.

Well, you need to keep an eye on those totals.  They get checked at 8pm EST daily, and if you snooze, you lose - no more guesses once the 9,900,000-views mark is past.

This should serve as a reminder to everyone - do NOT wait too long to make your first OR second guesses.

First of all, thanks to everyone who participated in our contest!

Second, now that all the entries are locked in - it looks like chach might have a good shot of taking it on his own!  I know there's been a lot of guessing for Christmas Eve through Boxing Day, but the views have been going up since the new management came in and said hello!

My stepson, at least the one young enough not to be living on his own, is spending the holiday with his father.  (I get Mommy all to myself, yay!)

He had a birthday about a week ago and we got him the perfect gift for both holidays - CASH.  It's always the right size and the right color!  I tried getting him a pair of boots, but on the day he was supposed to go shopping with me he opted to have other plans.

I did do something a little sneaky, though - I gave him one of those new hundred-dollar bills with the extra security features on it.  The odds of him spending it are now exceptionally low!

Haha...i thought it was gonna be a close one on either 26th or 27th. The feeling is kinda like the theory 11 wheel...so close yet so far.

We're fewer than 800 views from the 10,000,000th view - it was more like 3,000 when I woke up 3.5 hours ago.
