What's that saying:: Imitation is the sincerest form of flatery.  By the look of the post, this wasn't even a serious attempt.  I do like the thought behind the pips, but the backs look cartoonish.  The post will not even tempt me to back the KS project.  But since I don't back any KS projects,... Oh well.  There may be some that will back it for other reasons, or prerhaps personal likes.  More power to them.  I'll save my money.

First we had steampunk, then Cthulhu, then zombie and now it seems the theme of American currency and Presidents is being over done. The bar has been set too high by Jackson, others need to stop killing the theme.

Ugh.. Isn't 'America' as a theme over yet? It was garish and uninteresting to begin with and it has reached an all time low here.
For me the value in Jackson's Federal series is in his incredible artwork and style, and his absolute mastery of layout. But thematically the US in any form, currency, leadership, military etc. could not be more boring and tired.
I apologize to the patriots out there that can't get enough of it, but I'm born and raised American and I was over it when it started.

Jackson did it, nailed it, and created a legacy. It should have ended there.

Whether the creators were inspired by Jackson's Federal 52 series or not,  this deck isn't very attractive,  at least in my opinion. Tinting the pictures of Presidents green doesn't mean you're good to go on the currency theme.  :/

Blatant cheap ripoff in many ways!

- part 1
- money theme
- limited black deck
- 5 deck set
- number/letter codes like Jackson does
And more I'm sure, hopefully this crap doesn't get funded!

I agree with you, Shermaine.  It's just not a good copy of JRob's "Federal 52", not even a good rip-off.  Too many things in common for any of it to be random, it's almost like somebody said "He made $180k on it, I can do the (exact same mirror) thing.  The problem is the execution of it is just plain lame, IMHO.  It would be different if it "broke new ground" in one way or another, but it definitely does not.  Sorry, I'm keeping my quarters.

This is not the first time anyone from Kickstarter has made cheap knock-offs with projects. But they always fail to notice that the backers who may back their projects are probably already familiar with the original ideas.

One of the best examples of this was the very successful microgame called Coin Age. Then a few weeks later a "completely different" game was posted called Wallet Battles. If you read the comments on that second project's most people pointed out that it was nearly a blatant ripoff. However, the creator of that made a better recreation than this deck!

You are selling the toilet paper short hehehe

The creator made a comment in response to someone's critique.  I laughed when I read he put in 1000 hours on this deck.

Thanks for your feedback Seamus.
I appreciate your point about putting some of the printing specs onto the project. I will be doing that shortly. These are to be printed by Cartamundi, one of the world leaders in card/card game production and quality. We'll be using 325gsm black core poker stock with a matte aqua finish similar to USPCC finishes and a fiber textured as opposed to smooth.
Most of the design decisions were done to respect the original and to fit the constraints of the printing process. I have probably put close to a 1,000 hours into this already to be ready to launch this project and have the cards in printer ready format. If you don't like the cards, that's certainly your perogative and obviously you don't need to pledge for them - there are certainly more decks out there.

should've taken those 1000 hours & got a job, that's the only way he's going to make that $24k. it really is a hideous design & looks like lazy worksmanship.

I'm trying my darndest to resist vomiting.

Aside from that, pretty much what everyone else said. Jackson created an absolutely amazing deck, it was massively successful (rightfully so), and this hack is just trying to ride the currency-theme coattails.

Bag it, tag it, sell it to the butcher.

This deck is an abomination.  I would have clawed out my eyes, were it not for the fact that my glasses are in the way.

OK, I'm kidding, but it's REALLY, REALLY, REALLY BAD!!!

Assuming he spent those thousand hours at the rate of forty a week, he spent nearly a half-a-year "designing" this thing...  But check this out, from his bio:

Software developer by day, full time father and avid game player by night... Lifetime resident of the Detroit area. I am not a designer or artist by trade, but I am inspired by the many great artisans that came before me.

NOT a designer or artist?!?  No kidding!!!

These are the kind of people who drive innovation into the ground with their money-grubbing attempts to jump on the bandwagon.  If reincarnation is the way of our world, this guy would return as Miley Cyrus' tongue...

Now where can I find a LOL or ROFL smiley?

But yeah, this is really bad. Two-way AoS, Inconsistent courts, Vinaigrette stained background. The list goes on and on.

I don't know, man. Jackson should have a duck on this, simply because it's just too close, although of course he'd have to prove just how similar they are, and the paradigm is just so close and the description is darned nearly duplicated from his Fed52 series campaigns.  Certainly enough for me (and I certainly wasn't the first) to say it looks like the IDEA was Jackson's, but certainly NOT the art!  That is NOT his, unless he took out a loan on his future and took a second (mortgaged) on his home.
