Below is a long list of interesting questions. How do you know if you'll adore posting in the upcoming Design & Dev board? Answer: If you don't know the answer to at least one of the below questions OR you know the answers to questions below that you want to discuss or teach to others.
Ever wanted to know how the designs on a deck of cards are made? What in the world is the difference between RGB and CMYK? Photoshop or Illustrator?
What is Cinema4D?
What is DeviantArt?
How do I start learning to create digital art in the first place? Do I need to know how to hand draw anything? Is hand drawing all I need to know?
How do I create a website for my projects? What is UBBC, HTML, CSS & Javascript? Colors are blue, red, green and ... wait how do I describe this bluish-green with a tinge of red in it?! There are color FORMULAS?!
How do you animate an emoticon? Heck, how do you animate an image, period? What is the difference between .gif, .bmp, .jpg and .png? What is FTP?
How do I learn which colors look good together, and which colors just look awful or amateur?
Is there any way I can get an inside scoop on how the card developers go about making what it is that they make?
Below are the answers:
- Of course you did
- One is combining light for digital art, the other is combining inks for print art
- Neither...or both...or just one, doesn't really matter
- A 3D imaging software
- A place to show off your work
- Learn via tutorials
- Hand drawing skills will help you immensely
- Hand-drawing skills are very far from all the skills you will need
- By spending months and years learning programming and design!
- These are all programming languages, one of which you use every day at the Discourse (UBBC)
- Colors are often referred to by their Hexadecimal formulas
- Oh yeah, there are color formulas, and they're extremely fun to learn
- Emoticons can easily be animated via Photoshop by creating each frame of the animation and splicing them together
- Images can be animated through a slew of programs. Some of the most common animations on the web are made via Flash or Photoshop
- .gif = Good for animations and pixel art, nothing else .bmp = obsolete .jpg = somewhat obsolete, useful for photos to reduce file sizes and .png = the GOD of formats capable of transparency like an oiled Greek goddess is capable of pleasuring Zeus
- A method of file transfer from your computer to the web
- You study color theory!
- By being a part of the Discourse's Design & Development board!
So stay tuned in the coming days as the board is brought to fruition. Here's where you can help! Vote in the poll above, and tell us how you will contribute and what you want others to contribute as well. Tell us what you want from the board so we can cater an experience you will adore.

Awesome! I am pretty excited for this.
If anyone has questions about building a website and is curious about certain types of coding like CSS, HTML, PHP....Ect I may be able to help you out. I have been tinkering with websites over the last 3 years or so and know a decent amount about the different types of coding, although I am not an expert at them. Once the board is up I will try my best to help anyone out who has questions having to do with website.

Tutorials?
That would be great, because I don't have any knowledge about these.
It would be nice if I could try design a deck too.
But, hmmmm, then there will be a lot kickstarter decks coming out for sure.
I ran out of money. T-T

Haha well the learning process does not entail creating a viable product. I've spent eight years designing and I am still nowhere near what I would call acceptable. It's always a learning process!
-
Sounds sick! It'd be cool to have a video production/photgraphy area too (if possible) :-[

Yeah, I mean I won't be able to release any decks. But many talented people like you will.

I think it would be all inclusive.
-
I will be making sure to check this out in the future. Art-wise, I'm pretty rubbish at everything except sketching/hand drawing, but I will be sure to come back often and tell people how awesome their designs are. :D

I really like this idea! I'd really like it to be a child board to the Playing Card plethora thing though

It wouldn't be playing-card-design only. It would have its own board on the main page.

Ah ok.... what other things would it be?
-
Hmm, well this will be a nice thing to add. I think there is a place for animation there :)
-
I think the poll's a little loaded... if someone wasn't interested, why would they bother registering their disinterest?
Anyway, I'm really looking forward to this new board. I've always loved and been terrible at producing visual art so this could be a cool learning experience/hang out.

ill be honest, i don't have an artistic bone in my body. i always wished i did, but that's the cards i was played in life. (woa card reference in a card forum)
but i love seeing people's ideas shape and evolve over time. :-X
-
Wow, this sounds really cool. I'm not really good at art, but I really like looking at it. I think some art is amazing. A deck of cards is a very nice piece of art in its own way.
My brother is a very great artist, so I get to look at cool art all the time.

I am quite interested in programming and webdesign even though that is not what my degree is focused on. Nevertheless over the years I have found a bunch of useful which I can share with you if you wish and I am always on the lookout for more. I approve this idea!

This would be a fun board, and I'd like to help out with getting people started on this. By way of background, I've been using Photoshop since version 1.0 in 1989 (it came on 4 floppies back then), have been doing graphic design, web development and interactive stuff professionally since 1995. Currently a creative director for a web development and eLearning company and I also freelance. Here's some of my stuff, should that interest you: http://www.interarchitect.com/
I love helping people learn new things, so this could be fun. :)

That's an impressive portfolio! Good to know that when the board is up we will have some talented people ready to share their expertise in the field. :)

This makes my achievement of Photoshopping my face onto Miss World seem redundant

Haha, if you have time for that. Why don't you try entering E contest in facebook?
It's about photoshop.
-
haha :o dude thats hilarious!
-
Heh, thats not really all that bad. Horribly terribly ugly, bit not bad. :)
Thanks to this board I've started pondering how to do a deck design. Probably will take a long time to germinate but it is quite fun to think about.

Naw, don't bother. No need to have unnecessary competition. (I want to win something for once in my life!)

This board launches Monday - I encourage you guys to start thinking of new posts and topics to throw in there so we can all learn even more about cards, websites, videos and development of these things in general.
