So guys,
Lets hear a list of some of your favorite magicians. I doesn't need to just be card magicians. It can be stage magicians/cardists too.
-
David Stone. I love his performance.
-
Derren Brown, Penn & Teller, Ricky Jay, James Randi, Criss Angel...
Yeah I'm kidding with Angel; I can't watch him without cringing. All pretty mainstream but I really do think they're the best at what they do.
-
Criss angel is more like an entertainer more than magician.
-
Penn and teller are good. really dont like chris angel though.
-
I hate Criss Angel. I really like Daniel Garcia and Barry Taylor.
-
Penn & Teller!
-
I like Penn and Teller too. They're good.
-
so we all agree penn and teller rock
-
lol yea... they do
-
so we all agree penn and teller rock
Yes we do. They are entertaining to watch, funny, and have their television on Discovery Channel. It's not about magic, but it's still pretty good.
-
They have their show on Showtime, it's awesome.
-

I love that show, but the show on Discovery Channel is much more appropriate.
-
they had a show air in britain, used youtube to watch it. magician tried to fool them.

I love that show! I've watched every episode. This is my favorite magician from the show:

I HIGHLY recommend you watch it. It is 10 minutes long, but worth every second. It is pure comedy magic, and actually pretty good.
-
yea that was great one.
-

I guess if you have something against nudity or language, which doesn't make much sense to me but that's your own look-out. I think BS is a more important show; it's real, serious issues (well, sometimes) that people have overlooked or been duped by rather than just urban myths. I didn't know about the Discovery channel show; I'm going to watch it now; thanks!
-
I have a few, all for different reasons.
Penn and Teller: I find their comedy hilarious and their, well guess mostly Penn's, stage presence amazing. I really like their attitudes towards magic and their stage act is great
Lance Burton: The class he brings to his act is inspiring; it's great to watch the grace and nostalgia that he brings to his shows.
Jeff McBride: He brings such creativity to his act, as well as being incredibly skilled. His show is more of a performance piece than just a magic act.
-
David blaine and derren brown, blaine got me into magic and I enjoy watching derren brown. I don't do magic anymore but I still enjoy to watch it performed. Flourishers? I'll have a think.
-
i love d. blaine's street magic. that's the kinda stuff that i want to be able to do.
-
not a fan of david blaine either. just never really liked his performance.
-
I think Blaine, while a very creative inventor, tries to hard to be aloof. I hate his patter and attitude. Same with Banacheck; amazing, amazing routines but no style (and talks a lot of nonsense much of the time, like Derren used to).
I forgot to mention Jerry Sadowitz before. One of the best stand-up comediens in the world. If you don't know him, you'll know his work because you probably have a few of his sleights in your routines. I've seen him produce a good dozen cards from empty hands that never leave your line of sight, while doing stand-up.
-
I don't really like David Blaine. But I like him much better than Chriss angel
-
I think Patrick Kun and Daniel Garcia are my favourites
-
Oh yea, I love Patrick Kun. He has great tricks and he teaches them very well.
-
Patrick kun is great guy.
I like a all of his tricks.
-
And the best part is that he's young so he will be a huge name in magic over the years
-
And the best part is that he's young so he will be a huge name in magic over the years
Yeah, I agree with that, he already has so great effects, I think in a few years he will be one of the best magicans out there
-

Definitely. I can't wait to see that
-
No brainer for me, Richard Turner.
-
Penn Jillette and Teller....actually he doesn't have a last name :-\
-
No brainer for me, Richard Turner.
Richard Turner is an expert at the card table, but he is never a "magician" ;)
-
mine is David Blaine .
-
Penn and Teller as well! And also Lennart Green!
-
@digipunk, yeah I guess he isn't really a magician as he doesnt do tricks, but everything he can do with a deck... Wow. Penn and Teller are good too.
-
Wow what a hard choice for me, so I'll just list my favourites that I've seen live :P
-David Copperfield (Yes I know its seems cliche but seriously Flying is the ultimate trick)
-Kevin James (Floating Rose live is so amazing, the smile on the childs face is priceless)
-Jeff Hobson (Best comedy magician I've ever seen, uses classics of magic but makes them so hilarious)
and the act at the top of my list to see is -
-Penn and Teller (Love their presentation style and sense of humour)

I think that in a general sense, comedy magicians are my favorite. Too bad I can't be as funny as them! :(
-
We had a topic about this ages ago, when the discourse just opened up. I merged the threads now so feel free to continue talking about your favorite magicians here.
-
Patrick kun is great guy.
I like a all of his tricks.
Haha at first I thought said "great gay", not that I have anything about gay people. I also really like PK as well as SL although the latter's tricks are sometimes overpriced in my opinion, especially ShiNag.
-
I hate Criss Angel. I really like Daniel Garcia and Barry Taylor.
LOL!
I love CYRIL TAKAYAMA because he's hot! and he's got awesome charisma and because i know i'll never go hungry if he becomes my friend... I <3 his burger and coffee stunts hahahah!!!
OISHII DESU!
-
I like David Blaine, Penn & Teller, Daniel Garcia, Rich Ferguson, and as corny as it might sound to you, Brad Christian. Brad was my first "instructor" in magic and I enjoy learning from his core set of videos. I'm just glad he doesn't wear the friggin' eyeliner as much these days - damn, did that look bad...
-
I'm not a magician but I enjoy watching Ricky Jay a lot and a recent favourite would be Bill Malone. Jordan Lapping does not really shows his own routines but his patter is awesome and everything so smooth. Sam The Bellhop is one of the best tricks I've ever seen!

I also really like Rich Ferguso, Marcus Eddie and Daniel Garcia. They have such creative minds!
-
im a huge fan of wayne houchin, his thinking is really out of the box :D
I also like P+T, cyril, and david copperfield.
-
Am I the only one seeing the pattern that Penn and Teller seem to be nearly universally liked in the Discourse? At a minimum they appear on more lists than any other magic act I can think of.
-
I think it's their age (been in magic for 25+ years) and their sense of humor that makes them attractive. I mean David Blaine is a genius but in his early career he was a bit creepy, I saw an interview where he didnt speak for ages and it just creeped me out - and Cris Angel is just a knock off in my opinion, P+T are just classical and funny. But Richard Turner... C'mon he really is the master.
-
But Richard Turner... C'mon he really is the master.
You make me laugh :P :P
If you like Turner, you should also like Steve Forge, Jason England, etc. Oh... they don't know karate.

-
Going old school here..Mr. Fred Kaps, he truly was a master, check out his cup and ball routine on youtube..awesome.
-
my favorite is probably David Blaine, but I also like David Copperfield :)
-
Helder guimaraes, Lennart Green, Cyril takayama, Jason england, Chris Mayhew, Tommy wonder.... not really into the cliche market such as david blaine etc
-
Jeff Mcrbride and Michael Ammar has to be my favorite magicians. They're magic and wizardy is way up there.
-
Overall:
Dai Vernon, Ed Marlo, Bill Malone, Paul Harris, and Michael Ammar.
Creativity:
Patrick Kun, Matthew Bich, Chris Kenner, Marcus Eddie, Daniel Garcia, and Wayne Houchin
Presentation:
Penn and Teller, Lance Burton, David Copperfield(only some performances though, not a big fan of his), David Blaine(Latter performances coz yeah, I saw that weird interview too), and Cyril Takayama
Style:
Dan & Dave, Patrick Kun, Helder Guimares, Daniel Madison, and The Virts

David Blaine, Criss Angel, Dan and Dave.

I just got a new idol in my mind.
He is Dani Daortiz.
His performance is really fun to watch, and I like his style a lot.

He's giving a lecture and a workshop next week at Tannen's! Lecture is Thursday for $35, Workshop is Saturday for $100. Maybe I should check it out...
-
Try the lecture first, and if you like his performance go on workshop on Saturday too. 8)
I really wanna have a chance to meet him too.
Wanna see the real life performance.
-
I like Dani Daortiz too, actually I mentioned this name in the "Table Faro" thread. It's a pity that this guy became famous so late.
-
He became famous late because his previous DVDs are in Spain.
But then he came to EMC and thats make people asking about him, and he released Utopia in english. Really great dvd sets.

Currently if you ask a Chinese (Taiwan, China, Hong Kong) who is his favorite magician, there is only an answer and that's why I don't want to reply in this thread.
