It's simple. It's like a betting pool. As of this moment, we're at 97,707 posts. I'll be checking at midnight Eastern time every day to see when the 100,000th post is made. Spam gets trashed, period. Double posting is prohibited - it always was, but I'm more closely enforcing that for the duration of the contest.
Make a post, pick a day. One entry per person. On the day we hit 99,500 posts, entries are closed at midnight. On the day the 100,000th post drops, all people who chose that day go into a random drawing (courtesy of Random.org). Winner gets a SECRET SURPRISE. I can tell you Tom and Lee are picking it out. I can also tell you it's NOT the silver club deck in the fancy box! But it will be cool, collectible and desirable. We just don't know what it is yet!
LATE EDIT: Kardify is offering an additional prize for the winner - a limited-edition boxed set of Aquila playing cards! Presentation box, one deck each of the limited and standard editions with serial-numbered holographic seals and a matching certificate signed by the artist!
LATE EDIT: Nurul is offering a "second chance" prize for all those who chose the wrong date - a red-blue set of Serpentine playing cards by Legends PCC! To be eligible, you must have guessed the INCORRECT date - guesses of the correct date that didn't win the main prize are NOT eligible!
In the event that NO ONE has guessed the correct date, we will choose the closest date chosen by someone BEFORE the winning date. Ex.: Rose chooses 03 March, no one chooses 04 March or 05 March, BiggerDee chooses 06 March and the 100,000th post occurs on 05 March. BiggerDee's guess is closer than Rose's, but Rose's guess occurred BEFORE the 100,000th post and would win. If PurpleIce also chose 03 March, they would be entered in a random drawing for the winner along with anyone else who chose their date.
For international folks: now that Daylight Saving Time is over in the US and Canada as of 02 Nov at 2:00AM, midnight Eastern Standard Time (EST) is 05:00 UTC in the same day. Ex.: midnight Monday morning EST is 05:00 Monday morning UTC. Some people in this example would refer to midnight as occurring Sunday night, but they would be incorrect as midnight (00:00 in 24-hour time, 12:00 AM in 12-hour time) in a given location is the start of the new date and occurs in that new date, not the previous one.
Questions? Ask. :)) Good luck, everyone!

Will the person making the 100,000th post get a prize too? :P
More winners more fun!

I'm afraid not. It would be too difficult to determine exactly who that poster was. It also might encourage spam dumping as people fought to be that poster. (Which would cause possible multiple 100,000th post writers as I remove the spam!) With just the betting pool concept, the playing field is reasonably level and there's an element of chance involved as well.

Noted - but you only need to choose a date, not a time. I check the totals at midnight daily (Eastern).

I'm confused...Don, I thought that you made close to 100,000 posts every day all by yourself...
;-)
My guess: January 21st, 2015.

November 14, 2014
Modified my post... I hope thats ok.. I put December when I meant November... Been up for well over 30 hours and counting. ???
-
We're at 97,801 posts - I was a little late getting the total, a bit busy.
Tom and Lee mentioned they were offering a surprise prize, right? Kardify has announced they'd ALSO like to donate a prize! The donated prize is a special boxed set of Aquila playing cards - the set that was in the $40 tier for their Kickstarter project. It's a lovely presentation box with one deck each of the standard and limited edition decks, each with a holographic seal added and a matching certificate signed by artist Ade Suryana. The tucks and the certificate are identically serial-numbered and are part of a series of only 500. The decks themselves are printed by the Legends Playing Card Company.
So now that's TWO prizes for the winner! Good luck, folks.

January 18th. ;D

Can I change mine to the 18th of Nov at 7:23am EST? ;D Sorry I changed my mind!
-
Can I change mine to the 18th of Nov at 7:23am EST? ;D Sorry I changed my mind!
I want to say yes, but if I allow you to do it, then more people are going to want to do it - and if I say no to them, they'll tell me, "But you let ROSE do it!! Why not ME?!?" As much as I would love to, I have to say no.
I'm considering a "second chance" prize - like a sweepstakes for the people choosing the wrong date. But it's only under consideration - no firm plans yet.

Awesome, "second chance" prize!!! Sweet!

November 25th (2014) :))
On the day we hit 99,500 posts, entries are closed at midnight.
That's way too close to 100,000. You should close it sooner then that. The first choice is Nov 9th. Last day to enter a choice should be Nov 9th Midnight PST (internet time). It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out your best odds of winning will be the person who guesses nearest to the 99,500 deadline.
Also, think about all the work you have for those of us that made early submissions and want to change or edit our date as 99,500 comes closer. What a PITA that will be for you.

Well in all fairness, should I change mine back to my original guess of December, Don?
Hell, who knows it may have even been a "Prophetic" guess brought on by my lack of sleep..

Someone already has black friday. Good pick imho. :)
I'll take US thanksgiving day then, 27th of November. I'm thinking the post will happen whilst I'm watching this. :))

I'll take Dec 8
I agree, bids need to be taken FAR earlier than that. Perhaps end of this week or once we hit more like 98,000. Although, while it's true the later you put a bid in the more accurate you should be, that only works if there is a date still available so there also is incentive to bid early. All the more so if an earlier time and smaller number is used as the cut off which should help people from simply waiting.

If you look at the average number of daily posts since the board was founded, it's about 94.37 - but if you narrow that down to October 2014, the average drops significantly, 55.94 posts daily, with a wide range of daily totals, between as low as 28 and as high as 95.
At 99,500 we could be anywhere from five days to perhaps nine days or more before we hit 100,000 - plenty of time. In fact, if you want to play averages, you can come up with some reasonable possibilities by guessing today and using statistical data on the board. But in the end, there's that element of random chance. The swing in the number of posts made daily is wide enough to make statistics barely better than guessing. Plus, waiting to the last minute can backfire - forget to check in on the wrong day and you can be locked out from guessing at all, especially if post #99,500 comes through at 11:59pm!

Date: 25 Nov.
Chosen already for a reason.

That's basically what I did. The average posts per day / by the remaining posts needed to 100,000 posts. About 24 days. November 25th. So now you can ALL jump on my wagon to squeeze me off the prize. :)) LMAO

So no changes allowed right? Was wanting to change since someone picked my date as well. And i dont want to have to get the date right and the raffle. lol

Hi guys,
It's been a while. I'll be going with Dec 21.
-
I knew I was forgetting something!!
98,033 as of 3:19am Eastern Standard Time. I just set the alarm on my watch so I don't forget next time.
So no changes allowed right? Was wanting to change since someone picked my date as well. And i dont want to have to get the date right and the raffle. lol
See what you started, Rose? :))
NO CHANGES. If you buy a lottery drawing ticket and the next guy picks the exact same numbers as you, they're not going to refund your ticket so you can pick a different set of numbers!
As far as someone else picking your date - what if that is indeed the correct date? You options go from having a drawing with anyone else choosing that date OR losing and trying for the second chance prize.
"What second chance prize," you ask?
Nurul has generously offered a blue-red pair of LPCC's Serpentine deck to be used in a "second chance" drawing. All the people who did not choose the correct date will be in a drawing for these decks, to be shipped to you directly by him. So now, even one of the losers can be a winner!
-
I'll go with Dec 6.

Stop posting, people!
Stop spamming, Yashi!! Remember I'm tightening up on it for the duration of this contest. In fact, I'm moving this topic into the Parlor, since it's not really about cards. Post all the nonsense you want, within reason - the questions are made up and the point don't add up! (Paraphrasing "Whose Line Is It Anyway?")
-
Question, what all does count towards the total post count?
-
Question, what all does count towards the total post count?
Posts in the Plethora, the Bonanza, the Cellar, Design/Dev, Official Company Topics, Deck Reviews!, The Source. To sum up, any board that has discussions of things card related but not sale or trade of cards.
-
98,216 as of midnight tonight.
-
Well when I made my previous post I check the stats as far as post per day and it went up. So thats why I was unsure.

I made this reply after checking my total - my count didn't go up at all.
-
98,331 as of midnight.
-
I will go 1st of December
-
I will guess 22nd Nov.
-
98.439 posts as of midnight.
-
98,493 posts as of midnight. It looks the same as yesterday's total but the final two digits are transposed - in other words, we gained 54 posts.
-
98,548 posts as of nearly midnight (had to check early today, on a computer scheduled to shut down as 12AM)!
-
98,613 as of midnight.
A reminder: on the night that the total exceeds or equals 99,500 and I post said total, entries are CLOSED. I know many people are waiting to the last possible moment, hoping their guesses will be more accurate - but don't wait too long or you'll end up shut out!
Even a losing guess has a chance to win something - but no guess, no chance!
-
If my guess counts I will pick Nov 19 (My wifes Birthday)
-
98,692 posts as of midnight. I was delayed posting it because of an updating computer, but I did check it at midnight from my phone.
If my guess counts I will pick Nov 19 (My wifes Birthday)
Of course your guess counts. Why wouldn't it? Wednesday next week it is.
TRIVIA: as of now, 13 people have guessed a weekend day (Saturday or Sunday) and 18 have guessed a weekday (Monday through Friday). Seems a bit disproportionate!
-
98,763 posts as of midnight.
-
98,817 posts as of midnight.
-
98,906 posts as of midnight.
Deadline for entries will probably arrive within 5-10 days.
-
98,959 posts as of midnight.
-
99,018 posts as of midnight.
I can't say with certainty, obviously, but I'd guess that by this time next week, entries will be closed. Precisely what day, I couldn't say.
-
99,090 as of midnight.
-
99,133 as of midnight. Quiet day.
-
99,133 as of midnight. Quiet day.

900 posts in 5 days... possible... but probably won't happen.
-
99,186 was of midnight.
900 posts in 5 days... possible... but probably won't happen.
Nope. We may hit the cutoff for new entries in five days, but I doubt we'll have a sudden, wicked surge pushing us over 100,000 posts.
The timing could be interesting - there's a fair chance that we'll be still approaching the goal when Thanksgiving rolls around. This might create a lull in posts heading into Thanksgiving followed by a surge of posts for Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals.
That reminds me, I have to make a new topic...
-
99,277 posts as of midnight...
-
99,358 posts as of 12:19am - sorry I was late...
-
99,436 posts as of midnight.
If you haven't chosen yet, there's a good chance this will be the last day to do so.
-
99,504 posts as of midnight - the contest is officially CLOSED to new entries!
Good luck to all of you who entered.
-
Crap. There goes my chances unless everybody stop posting for a week. :P
Good luck to all those that guessed late this week or the next. It should most likely hit in that time frame.

I actually logged on Sunday evening as well as late Sunday night (now) - if I hadn't, we wouldn't be over 99,500 posts. No, it wasn't intentional, it just worked out that way.
Honestly, because of the upcoming holiday and orgy of shopping excess and largesse, this can go a few different ways in terms of how long it takes for the last 500 posts to be completed. On the one hand, people will be traveling everywhere to be with family - many college kids are already home by now (the city issued a "gridlock alert" for Friday due to the influx of travelers). There will be a lot of meet-and-greet, hugs and handshakes - things that tend to keep one away from a computer. But then there's Thanksgiving Day itself, with everyone not shopping lounging around on the sofa in a turkey coma. The ones running around to shop will likely be more focused on that than posting around here. Those not interested in overeating, shopping in brick-and-mortar stores or watching football might have time on their hands, especially in light of certain online card dealers holding seasonal specials. And of course, there's the wild card - tablets and smartphones are in so many people's hands that maybe those busier folks will be posting on the go.
-
I am confident we will hit it on the 30th (guess already made). I know this since I am using my psychic gift. I am getting the vibe that it will be pushing it, as it will be a close call and barely make it.

I dunno - the pace of posting has dropped off a bit.
99,560 posts as of midnight - a mere 56 posts as we head into a holiday weekend. It was more like double that when the contest started! Fate, she is a fickle mistress... :))
-
99,621 posts as of midnight.

99,694 posts as of midnight.

Judging from recent traffic patterns, we'll probably hit 100K either Monday or Tuesday. Since no one picked Tuesday, ozfan30 would win for being the only person to pick Monday. However, there's still a chance for Leif (Wednesday) or Yashi (Thursday OR Friday) to win if traffic slows down.
I'm kind of surprised that there weren't more entries for this one - only a rare few days had two people choose them, and none were picked by three people or more.
-
yea, I was pushing as much as I could to get it for this day. No luck though. :(
-
Well, I for one, hope that people are busy with cyber Monday. Y'all can att tell us what you bought on Wednesday, OK?
-
Lol, I was WAY off. :-\ Grats to the winner!

Lol, I was WAY off. :-\ Grats to the winner!
Hey, there's no winner YET...
And don't forget - everyone choosing the WRONG date is in the SECOND CHANCE DRAWING...
-
99,972 posts as of midnight...almost there...
-
Ok, nobody post anything for 9 days. lmao. I only chose that date b/c it's my bday. Congratulations to whoever wins.

Per attached photo, Fes was post #100,000.

Per attached photo, Fes was post #100,000.
I hope I didn't mess anything up, I actually forgot about the contest. :-[
-
OK, EVERYBODY!
Fes, congratulations on being the 100,000th poster.
Card Player, congratulations on being the guy who spotted the 100,000th post.
No one chose December 2nd, so the winning date is December 1st, chosen by Ozfan30!
And finally, congratulations to ecNate, winner of the "Second Chance" drawing!
Fes, CardPlayer: since you both did something cool, I'm going to do something cool. Contact me in PM in order to receive one free pack of the Science Deck by our very own Rose herself - thank you, Rose, for the prize donation!
Mr. ecNate - get in touch with Nurul and give him your address. He will send you two decks (one of each color, red and blue) of Legends' Serpentine deck!
Ozfan30 - I'll be in touch with you shortly. You win one of each of the Aquila decks, courtesy of Anthony Ingrassia and Kardify.com as well as the unnamed "secret prize" from Tom Dawson! When you do finally receive Tom's gift, come on here and let us know - I'm really curious about what he's going to give you and I'm sure I'm not the only one!
If anyone was curious, had a side bet, etc., tonight's count at midnight was 100,017 posts! Welcome to Six-Figure Territory! I was a little late getting to the board to check, but managed to work it out. There were 100,020 posts in the count, but three of the six most recent posts were made after 00:00:00 Wednesday morning.
To all the prize winners - please claim your prizes as soon as possible!
-
Gratz to all the winners :D :D
-
Ow, so close, yet so far away. Congrats to the winners!
-
Awesome!! I can't believe I won one of these things, I guess I had a better chance than a random drawing. I will post pics of what the prize is once I get it in my hands.
Thanks for having the contest.
-
Ozfan30, I'm glad you enjoyed it. If it gets you to post more, all the better!
-
I received my "second chance" prize from Nurul today, a set of Serpentine decks (blue/red). Thanks again! Congrats to the "proper winner"! ;)
-
It occurs to me I didn't make any follow up here!
The main prize winner got his decks - Ozfan30 is happy! As you can see below, encase got his Second Chance prize as well.
Interestingly enough, both Card Player and Fes opted to donate their bonus prizes for either spotting or making the 100,000th post to my magic volunteer work at a local hospital! A tip of my hat to both of them, they are gentlemen and scholars.
This year, I was there on the morning of Christmas Eve and on the afternoon of Christmas Day. I had a rather interesting, moving experience on the first of those two days. I was in the pediatric ICU, approaching a child who, without going into details, wasn't terribly happy with where he'd been spending the last few days. His mother mentioned that he might not be receptive, but I told her that was fine and I'd give it a shot anyway.
When I left, she was crying over the fact that her son was smiling and having a good time for the first time in three days. She bumped into my program supervisor later that day, who emailed me that it was the best Christmas present ever.
With the New Year 2015 approaching, I'm counting my blessings - I'm in relatively decent health, I have a happy home and many, many other little things that make me grateful. One of my greatest blessings is that I can go to that hospital and entertain sick and injured children - it's a wonderful thing.
