I think I would like to have this deck in my collection, because this I feel is a better than an average deck. But maybe that's because I am crazy. You should check it out: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/carloscontreras/tallans-playing-cards-by-carlos-contreras/description

I would really like to know your views about this one. I am asking because I am pretty sure not many others are going to post this one.

Oh, where do I begin?

I'm not going to go into a lengthy deconstruction of this deck.  Suffice it to say that it has the appearance of a teenager's first efforts - which is exactly what it is.  That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it's far from enough to convince me to back it.  Artistry aside, there's a number of noteworthy flaws that would keep me away from it.  I will say, however, that while I dislike the faces and custom pips, the back design's not bad at all.  The tuck box, though - it's about as exciting as the old "no frills" packaging I used to see on cheap groceries back in the 1980s.  Not to mention it needs SERIOUS work, not the least of which being that part of the artwork intended for the package is printed outside of the die line.

You mentioned all the good things I liked about this deck. I guess I was just stuck with those and chose to ignore everything else. Thanks for your views Don.

Rethinking of Theory11’s Monarchs?

I can think of a few decks that use similar themes and style in the back art.  Monarchs are probably the best-known ones of the lot.

Is it just me or do the courts immediately make one thing of humpty dumpty images. Maybe it is the combination of egg shaped bodies and big heads with little hands.
