Great deck, if you love van Gogh.  Otherwise, not so much.

This is not my project; it is Collectable Playing Cards, so I don't know the rules about posting their pictures.  But it has been active a few days and I see nothing here so I figured I would give it a plug.  You don't need to be a van Gogh fan to appreciate the art, but it helps.

I love the way the back art fans.

Thanks Rob.  I looked high and low and could not find this thread.

I merged the two.

This project is really close to the same as this one that was tried last year. The artwork is very similar, but a different designer.

Vincent's Playing Cards - Van Gogh (Canceled) by John Rangel (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1606686727/vincents-playing-cards)

Did CPC buy the rights from John Rangel- rip him off, or did they both just do a lazy job of copy and paste of actual Van Gogh work?

They look quite different to me.  I would have preferred the prior one to this one.  In any case, van Gogh seem to be a hard sell.

You would think it would be easy, but it isn't. In the custom deck design world, most collectors are looking for new, unique, original art. And in the works of van Gogh may have been original in their day, but they would be considered stale by comparison. It's not bad art by any definition of the term, but is it not new, nor is it original.

The previous campaign by John Rangel seems to be a collection of original pictures painted by van Gogh.

I think the point here is that the artwork for this deck is not taken from van Gogh's original work. This is a new artwork by J. Whaam using van Gogh's techniques. I think that's the originality of the deck and its interest from the artistic point of view...

It's not van Gogh's techniques - it's van Gogh's art, modified to suit a set of playing card courts.  To my eye, it's a pale imitation.  But that's me and my tastes - your mileage may vary.
