Well, we know they're real, they're printed - and that probably means they're releasing soon.

Remember that David often likes to use a deck design exclusively for a while before he puts them on sale.  I'd say before year's end, but when before, anyone's guess is as good as mine.  Yeah, they said what, August?  We'll see.

(Who wants to release a deck this close to Labor Day weekend?  People are taking vacations!)
Jackson Robinson and Brain Vessel, for starters.

Well, it's the Ace NOW...  But the spade on the card box has some extra details that the AoS doesn't, and the image I saw showed the box, not the Ace of Spades.

Nice Ace...
Okkkkkkkkkkkkkkkay. That clears that up......

Seriously, I like the graphic on the box, and would love to see that as the AoS.
But the actual AoS as depicted looks like it was designed by a lawyer...a bad lawyer.

Ok, they are nice and all.........but the number is trademarked? Really? All by itself? And putting that all that trademark text on the AoS .... Gosh.

Pass.

Got my shipment of The Hive today.

IMHO, the standout feature of this deck is the wonderful colors. The green shading on the spades is beautiful.
The indices are clear,  even though the blacks are not true black and the reds aren't the primary color of a standard deck.
Very playable. Its a 10!

p.s. I'd love to see these with a smooth finish.

Here's a mixed set

I like them. The card's dark back and the gold edges really work together.
There are no clamp marks on the Pagans. There are on the Ramblers and Aladdins.
And the Pagan's gild is a much deeper gold.
Haven't played poker with them yet -- that's the real test!

I received two boxes, each with a sketch log book tier.
Wow.

First off, the two packing boxes together form a diptych with a sketch of a combat pilot in his cockpit.
The two sketches are wonderful pencil art.
The tucks are elegant. The log books are over the top sort of rewards, truly unique and well put together.
I'm blown away and I haven't opened a tuck yet.
Wow.

My Limited Edition Civil War Decks are being finished this week and will most likely ship next week. I then will have to hand apply all of the numbered seals like on the HIVE decks. If all goes as planned they will available exclusively on my website for immediate delivery on either Aug 9th or 13th. Bicycle and I wanted coordinate our releases around the same time.

FYI: They will not be $3.99 per deck though DANG! thats a good price I already picked up some off the site. :)

Jackson, any update on when the LE Civil War decks will be available on your website?

What a different volume and a standard tuck make. I ended-up paying $3.15 a deck (including shipping) by buying 6 half-bricks with my 808 renewal discount. These are now my goto cards for taking to a bar or going camping. They are so inexpensive I'm almost going to feel guilty giving them out as gifts.

Jackson, is there a follow-up USPCC deck planned? I gotta believe that they are pleased, and that your Tally-Ho deck is giving them ideas. It would be fantastic if you could refresh one of their standard decks.

I've found that EPCC tends to be better for registration for thinner borders from the decks I've purchased. More consistent when you riffle shuffle them that it's harder to notice.
I'm curious to see which court card set Erik will use to go with the Sybil decks, but it's look really great.
I bought the LPCC Gnostic decks. The blue deck has horrible registration in the long dimension. The gold deck has not so good registration in the short direction. Perhaps my decks are an anomaly, but even though I like the art I won't be buying the red version when it becomes available.

How did the Hive decks turn out registration-wise? Can you post some pics?

edit: sorry to hijack the topic. Brendan responded nicely on the Hive thread.

I like the way Jackson put "Smooth" on the front.  That's different.   Are all modern Tally-Ho decks smooth nowadays?
Hmm? The KWP Tallys are embossed, just like it says on the tuck.

The only decks (so far) that Jackson has produced that are smooth are The Independence LTD, and they say nothing on the tuck about it, as far as I can see

A complete set of the four Bicycle War Series decks in unopened boxes would probably be one of the Holy Grails of card collecting.  They go for thousands of dollars.
A complete set [four mint decks in original wrappers and boxes] of the Bicycle War Series went for over $7000 a couple of years ago. Individually I would expect a single mint deck to be between $1500-2000. The most expensive American deck we know of went for $28000 in the mid-1990's at Lenny Schnier's auction. It was hand painted by a well know American artist - William Aiken Walker - around 1862 and had a civil war theme. Would you like to see pictures?
Yes!

115
I went in for 3 sets.

Do early orders get low numbers? :)

That'd be cool. Sorta like Apple does with "Designed in California".
It would also be a logical place to put something like 'First Edition 2014'.

Jackson,

I think the AoS is a bit unbalanced. The aces I'm looking at have threes lines of text at the bottom that the KWP version does not have, and I think the overall result is that the KWP version is a bit top-heavy.

and

Then again maybe you're still figuring-out what the text should be on your version? :-\

Sparkz and Jackson nailed it. Don sets a great tone for the Discourse.

I'm not constrained on funds, so I will be picking up one or two sets of The Hive on Saturday.
But the price is too high to buy a brick for gifts. This is what I did for Zenith, which is comparable in price.

I really need to have the deck in my hands to make a judgement on the art quality or the playability or the value for money of the deck.

Brendan,

So what's the story behind the pic? Will these make it to D&D/Art of Play for sale?

Thank you all for the kind words. I doubt if anyone is happy that there was only one Blue Bloods gilded deck offered. I pinged Uusi about 6-8 months ago when I first started collecting cards. I asked if they had any BB for sale and Linnea answered that all they had left is one brick in a safe. If they had more I'm sure they would have offered more gilded decks. And if they had I would have bought two!

Now here's a tip for those in Asia who are trying to score a BB deck:

Unfortunately, they do not ship/sell to the US. Otherwise their dozen decks would be sitting on my shelf!

I asked this question in the Pagan Kickstarter and here's the answer from Uusi:
Quote
When you decide to break the deck I would first flex the entire deck lengthwise and then just fan the deck slowly, one card at a time, using your thumb to separate any cards that stick together.

Guys -- I guess I wasn't clear-- I scored blue bloods gilded.

Gratz on that one of a kind score! Still a little too rich for my blood on 1 deck of cards.

Would love to see pics of the sterling silver on that deck........please share when they arrive  :)
It's a bit of a quandary, a custom seal on a one of a kind deck.
If I leave it be for 10 years and then open it will the gold have solidified to the point that it just flakes off?
Maybe I need to bite the bullet and get a Redux as well to open...
