Playing Card Plethora / Re: Mana Deck
« on: January 19, 2012, 12:27:49 PM »
I'm planning on getting at least 2 of these decks. They look outstanding, and I adore the court card recolourations.
Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but where can we buy these once they're released? I haven't found any information about sellers of the deck. If I'm being an idiot and missing something really obvious here, feel free to start yelling at me!

Playing Card Plethora / Re: 807-R-TG…version 2?!
« on: January 19, 2012, 12:21:53 PM »
How about this. I went to check Walmart and Target to see if by chance we had any of these and I noticed a stack of standard bikes both Red and Blue, but the tear strip said 125th Anniversary Collectors Set. I'm guessing these were supposed to be used with the 2pack sets? I didn't see any of the actual 125th versions anywhere as individual packs or any more of the 2pack sets.

Did the Standard decks have 125th Anniversary seals on them? Because the Anniversary 2 deck set that I picked up had a foil-free blue Anniversary deck, and a red Standard with an Anniversary seal. So, I'd guess if the decks you've found have the Anniversary seals, then maybe they're leftover decks.

On this point, does anyone know if there are Anniversary 2 deck sets with red foil-free Anniversary decks or blue Standards with Anniversary seals? I haven't seen any, but that's bearing in mind that I only have access to the limited few pictures that I could find. So, if anyone can tell me if they've seen any 2 deck Anniversary sets with anything other than the blue Anniversary deck and the red Standard, that'd be great. Cheers. :)

Am I missing something here? What's the WalMart exclusive box?  ???

Yes please, if you wouldn't mind. One for one, right?

Hey man, just to let you know that my Fulton's are going to be arriving early to mid February; I haven't forgotten.

Playing Card Plethora / Re: are these old or new decks ?

Yeah, I basically second what Aaron said.
It's definitely rarer than the New Stud decks, even if it's only by a little bit. Open it if you love to handle your decks, but leave it sealed if you're a more hardcore collector. Or at least, that's my advice. Really, do what you like with them. ;)

I acctually think that the back of the sheet looks pretty awesome, If D&D didnt have such high international shipping I would buy one

I agree. I really like this uncut sheet - the borderless design makes you look twice.

Yeah, I'd like to know where you got it, too.
Certainly sounds very interesting. Who knows what's going on? Maybe they're bringing back the old box, maybe they're not (and I personally doubt they are). Or maybe they're doing something totally different. I guess just time will tell.

Hear ye, hear ye!  I just broke the 20-post-a-day average!

Congratulations! I'm still lagging behind with a mere 8.591...  :D

Thanks for another good deck review. I just received the charity: water decks in the mail this morning, having previously watched the deck review. Very informative. :)

That's a really nice deck review, thanks.  :)
I just received mine in the mail. But I'm definitely more looking forward to getting my Actuators.

Haha :P No doubt it is coming straight from between their ears. I mean, I can't even begin to understand the thinking behind it. It's just a terrible idea!
As you've all said before me, no way am I even going to consider picking one up.

Maybe you Could make a Cardistree tree? curve the cards for the trunk and twist them tighter for branches?

That sounds like a great idea! Sounds pretty hard, but it would be worth it.

Also, I like what you've already done! Using it as a lampshade would be awesome.

Funnily enough, I agree with you completely! It would be Artifice (Emerald, if it could only be one colour), or blue fan back Tally-Hos if money was a big problem.
I haven't actually got any Crown decks yet, so I'm not sure what they're like. But I definitely agree with your other two choices.

140
sorry, Queens Slipper, it's a deck you can only get in Australia

Ooh, this sounds interesting. I have to ask the quintessential question - how does it handle? Are they good for cardistry/magic? And how do they look? Can you post some pictures? Hearing about new decks is always an exciting prospect for me...  ;D

Playing Card Plethora / Re: USPC Steampunk decks?
« on: January 14, 2012, 07:37:10 PM »
You never "have" to buy ANY deck!  You choose to!  I've never heard of anyone needing a deck of playing cards to cure cancer or being held at gunpoint and robbed of their Bicycle Rider Backs...

You're more of a "completist" collector - you want all the variants.  That's an expensive way to collect, but if it makes you happy and you don't go broke, more power to ya, bro!

Haha, of course I meant that in a loose sense of the word. Don't worry, no one's got me at gunpoint here. ;)
And to be honest, I think you'd call me a "stingy completist" collector. I enjoy having all the different editions of a deck, but only if it's cheap. For example, I don't really mind about getting either of the two Artifice v1 decks. I'll only get the other editions if I would consider them cheap no matter what deck they were (obviously, excluding standard decks here). For instance, I won't be getting a Red Artifice, because I ask myself "Would I pay $35+ for a deck of Steampunks/Artifice v2s/Infinity's?" I'm not explaining myself very well here, but I think you get the gist of what I mean; I like to get all the different editions of a deck, as long as they're cheap.

Welcome to the Discourse! :)
Are you a card collector, a magician, a cardist, or a designer? Or are you none of them?

143
liata, just realized this but its don and I not don and me

Actually, I hate to say it, but it's actually completely grammatically correct to say 'a trade between Don and me'. It would be incorrect to say 'a trade between Don and I'. And if we're getting picky, there's a whole bunch of punctuation issues in your message... ;)

« on: January 14, 2012, 07:16:47 PM »
Yeah, thanks for the link, Derek911. That was the picture I had seen before.

Maybe the cards are slightly different in color.  As I see it, it's just offering more choices.  When is that ever bad?

Haha, I totally agree. While having to buy two decks is obviously less favourable than just needing to buy one (for a collection, this is), I quite enjoy the choice. And if I have some spare money, then I'll get both. Then I can choose which one to use whenever I please!
Also, while I know some people will disagree with this point, it seems nice to be able to say that I have both editions of the Steampunk deck, rather than just 'I have the Steampunk deck', if there was only the theory11 version. I'm not sure why this is, it just seems more fulfilling to be able to have both versions of a deck. Psychological, I guess...

The Conversation Parlor / Re: Chocolate Playing Cards
« on: January 14, 2012, 01:42:12 PM »
I still remember some years ago some company was selling an all-chocolate Monopoly set - every game piece, every card, every piece of currency, even the board itself, all chocolate and edible!  Mmmmmmm...

My siblings and I got that Monopoly set for Christmas a few years ago! :D We tried playing it, but it started to melt a bit. So, we just set it up on an empty fridge shelf. xD It was certainly a talking point with our friends. And the chocolate was actually pretty nice, too.

Remember, it's not the box that matters - it's what's INSIDE.  The cards themselves, ace through king, spades, hearts, clubs and diamonds, are no different in either box.

Really? I'm sure I saw some comparison photos of them. The USPC versions have normal coloured court cards, whereas the theory11 version has the slightly more gold coloured ones. And I think the red pips are a little darker on the theory11 version, too.
But, as you said, I guess it's possible that it was a trick of the light, although I'm pretty sure it wasn't. But hey, once you open them up, we can know for sure!

Those mini Tally-Hos look awesome! I'll definitely be looking to get them now.  ;D

Other awesome shows of my youth include: Rupert, Rugrats, Hey Arnold, Magic School Bus, Are you Afraid of the Dark, Babar... they may be others that I will remember but these are what I could come up with on the spot.

Yeah, those were all awesome! They bring back great memories. :) (Apart from 'Are you Afraid of the Dark - I never watched that...)

That's a pretty sweet trade for both of you! Some awesome decks for both parties. I hope to be able to make great trades like that in the future with other discourse members!

Yeah, I agree. It looks pretty awesome for both sides! Nice trade!  :D
