Playing Card Plethora / Re: Deck Of The Year: 2012!
« on: January 03, 2013, 11:16:49 PM »
honestly it ended up being a bit too daunting for me to try and figure out which decks I bought this year actually came out this year (I started collecting back in March 2012, so every deck I own I bought this year). Seemed like more effort than I was willing to put in. I did have some ideas on what to vote for some categories but ended up not doing it. I think alex's idea for a poll in each category would see a lot more votes turn out. Say 5-6 decks for 4-5 categories or something like that, and maybe the option to "write-in" a deck if it wasn't included in the poll.

are D&D usually slow on shipping out orders? I actually haven't ever ordered from them directly so I don't have any experience with their promptness on orders. I'm actually considering getting the S&M v7s eventually...yeah it's undoubtedly overpriced, but I do like the design and would probably never open up an actual set of v3s even if I ever got them.

Either way, it seems like it's taking quite a bit longer than other sites for people to get their decks.

anyone have information on a specific or near-specific release date? I need to save up some money either way but it would be nice to know

129
well if you don't want to go through all of them, you could just make a short list of some of the rarer decks that you plan on getting rid of and see if you can sell them? idk whatever works for you

I'd be willing to pay for some opened decks if you put up a list

Playing Card Plethora / Re: JAQK or Artisans?
« on: December 30, 2012, 06:29:35 PM »
I like the red Jaqks, and I looooooooove the green Jaqks (probably one of my top 5 favorite decks). I don't have the artisans but they don't look as cool imo as the Jaqks. As far as handling, I'd assume the Artisians handle like any other T11 deck, so the handling will be about the same. So basically it's up to you which deck you think looks cooler.

Keep in mind that green Jaqks will run you easily over 20 bucks + shipping on ebay, and red Jaqks will probably be at least 20 bucks with shipping. Artisans will be much cheaper if that's a concern for you.

the first two extras are not all that great. It's fairly easy to learn the pirouette from any youtube tutorial, and the rubix opener is pretty  meh. Squeeze is an excellent cut and one of my favorites, and if you aren't able to learn it from the somewhat poor tutorials online, the video will probably be able to teach you well. I was able to learn it without much difficulty from free videos, but I'm sure the video by the virts is much better for learning. Definitely worth picking up for any flourisher/cardist

here's a cool add on to it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOSNzcOLNuo

another overpriced deck...I'm really sad that limiting deck runs then overpricing them seems to be the flavor of the month for playing cards. Also not buying the whole "made for cardists" thing since it's a standard deck with a custom design.

oh well, never had much interest in it anyway

I'd eat a klondike bar for one of those decks

+1 Angel_Magic. from his sales thread:

my order came in yesterday for 4 decks. Angel_Magic was very easy to work out an order with, and the decks were in perfect condition. Shipping was also very quick. Great seller!

I'm aware of that but I doubt that's the case

well the "bad for collectors" thing is somewhat besides the point. The minimum print for a deck run is 2500 IIRC, so Aloys will be sitting on 1850 decks if only 650 get released. I'm not sure how much it costs for a minimum print run at USPCC, but if your goal is to make money, sitting on nearly 75% of a deck run is a great way to go out of business fast.

12 bucks per? I grudgingly accepted that price on the Aurum deck but I'm gonna have to pass on this one

also a bit hard to believe only 650 decks will be released. the economist/businessman in me is shouting bullshit so hard at that

I'm interested to hear what everyone got. It seems like everyone so far hasn't gotten any rare decks but I'm wondering if anyone here will.

Playing Card Plethora / Re: Deck for Flourishing
« on: December 26, 2012, 06:38:48 AM »
I generally prefer bee stock (the casino grade kind, I know some "bee" decks use standard stock) for flourishing because it's a bit stiffer and the cards stay in packets a bit better. The deck I use more than any other for practicing flourishes and cardistry is the T11 titanium bee decks, for the reasons mentioned above. It just happened to be the deck that felt the best but I've noticed that standard bee decks usually stick together better and not bend as much as standard bicycle stock. just my opinion, but you can try it for yourself since you can get a bee deck for pretty cheap (~2 bucks from T11, ~3 bucks at any convenience store or walmart or whatever)

Standard stock works well enough though, it's not like it's a huge difference but it's noticeable enough to me that any serious cardistry practice I do is with standard bees or the titanium bee deck

I wouldn't go so far as to call it a rip off, but I can't help but think that most people are going to end up massively overpaying for a bunch of decks, and end up with 1 semi-rare deck not worth the cost. Of course they put in the picture a JN, a game of death deck, a red jaqk, etc etc, but I doubt even getting a brick would give you a decent chance at getting a rare deck, especially at only 6 bucks per deck when the DOTM club is closer to 10 bucks per deck.

"fools gold", maybe?

extra decks now available to black club members. Limit 2 per member at $18 per deck. So if you wanted one for the still somewhat absurd, but less so than before price of 18 dollars a deck, you could perhaps entice a black club member to get one for you.

still really disappointed on how E handled this deck, and 18 dollars plus shipping and possibly extra for the guy getting you the deck is still a steep asking price. Although you could probably buy a membership and two extra decks, resell them and make a good portion of your money back while still owning a deck.

Playing Card Plethora / Re: MSM: Moth/Myth White, ON SALE
« on: December 20, 2012, 06:27:10 AM »
I...I....live in Taiwan... :-\ :-\

You have a White Moth deck or two you are willing to give up for a small fee.  ???

I have 2 White Moth decks. If someone here wants one or two White Moth, I will buy the deck(s) for him and charge the actual fee that I pay. I can only do this for only one person here.

However, after comparing the prices on eBay, I don't think buying the deck via me will save much money. (the price of the deck and the local shipping fee from the seller to me is approx. $12.5 in total, and you can find it's $14.99 on eBay. I don't think there is much difference)

+6 dollars shipping for eBay, so it's actually significantly cheaper to do it the other way

Playing Card Plethora / Re: If I could only get 1 or 2 decks!!! For Magic!!
« on: December 18, 2012, 07:16:39 PM »
Shadow;  I agree with Don, cheap and simple bro. Don't go out and buy too many custom decks while you're only starting out, it is extremely easy to get caught up in. While your skills are getting a basic foundation and development, there is no need for large amounts of cards.

I will say that it's not exactly difficult to collect cards and practice magic at the same time. In fact, I found it quite easy to do both and doing one of them would usually encourage me to do the other as well. It is very easy to get caught up on collecting, though, but I'd warn you about that more for the sake of your wallet than as a deterrent from practicing magic.

As far as a couple of good custom decks for magic, I'd recommend something simple, as most people here already have. I personally really like the Artifice design, and the customization is close enough to standard cards to not arouse suspicion. The V2s would be best since the border is helpful for magic as well. Anything from Theory 11 is probably a safe bet, as well as the white lions decks. Anything not too outlandish will probably work fine, I'd say.
