Design & Development / Re: Follow up on Galvanic Playing Cards

If I'm totally honest, I'm not a huge fan of the Jokers. While they fit the theme nicely, and definitely have the right idea behind them, I'm not fond of the bolts of energy/lightning/light coming out of the hands. I'm not sure why, it just looks a little odd. Maybe unrealistic? I'm not too sure - sorry I can't give any constructive feedback on that point. But that doesn't mean I don't like the Jokers - just that they're probably my least favourite part of the deck.
But the reason why I really want to get this deck is the back of the cards. I absolutely adore the design, and everything about it. It's just such a nice, intriguing back.
You can definitely count me as a backer. :)

Really Masque? Was that post even necessary?

Exactly what I thought!  ::)

I'm guessing that not many were printed. I mean, it was printed with the intention to be a pretty rare deck, so I guess they wouldn't make enough uncuts for them to be readily available. And it was a pretty limited run, too.
But hey, email them and ask. I'd like to know, too!

Does anyone know if it's a USPCC deck?
Anyway, to be honest I'm not a great fan of the deck. And coupled with you having to pay a minimum of $100 to get it, I won't be picking it up. :)

What are the 5 more that you have your eye on?
Those look pretty nice. :) The ones that I really want are the Stephen Rooks mini decks. They look pretty cool.

8.302 for me! Hope to start getting it higher after my exams.
Also Alex, just to ask, will there be the possibility to upvote a post, rather than a user? It's just, people don't seem to 'Applaud' each other that much currently. I'm thinking that upvoting posts themselves might be a little more popular? Or are people just going to be encouraged to give positive Fame to others for good quality posts?

I might be interested in a Black Crown deck! Any way that I could reserve one?

One of the reasons why this deck seems to appeal to me is the pip layout.
While I enjoy revamped court cards, totally redesigned pips and pip layouts are not as common, and I find them a lot more enticing. That was part of the reason why the Vortex deck really jumped out at me.

Less than 1000?!!?!?
Does that mean that over 4000 people made orders over $150 during that time?

Don't forget that they had the 2 LTD. decks promotion, and the bricks of LTD.s that were offered as part of the prizes. :P

They're available! Awesome. I'm definitely going to pick some of these up ASAP. I've been waiting eagerly for them since I first read about it in BMPokerWorld's blog.

Go ahead and order it from the CCCC website.  Worst thing that could happen is you have a few extra decks - when has that ever been a bad thing?  ;)

Haha, I thought that! But about three years ago, I bought a deck just before Christmas, and it turned out he'd bought me the same deck. He seemed pretty hurt, and wasn't the happiest. Which is why I'm wary of buying this deck. But I think I'll probably get some anyway, without paying for them through him, which is what I do now. What he doesn't know won't hurt him. ;)

I'm getting in a bit of confusion with this deck.
I really want the deck, of course. It looks amazing, and it's incredibly unique. Definitely the sort of thing that I adore. But I have a sneaking suspicion that my brother backed it on Kickstarter as part of my Christmas present. I didn't manage to stumble across the Kickstarter page until the backing had finished, so I didn't manage to pick up a deck. Which I'm certainly pretty annoyed about. But I thought, it's fine, I'll get a deck from their website. But I'm reluctant to get it if my brother has alredy bought it for me. Equally, I don't want to miss the chance to buy a deck from their site, just to find out that my brother hasn't really got me the deck. I'm having the same trouble with the Americana deck.
So, yeah. That's my only current problem with this deck. :P It looks so good, and it's such a great idea that I know I'll get a deck of these sooner or later. I just hope it's the former. ;)

Design & Development / Re: Developing Discourse v2: A daily blog.
« on: January 10, 2012, 07:25:33 PM »
The Discourse v2 gets better as you tell me more about it. I can't wait until we can use this new version.
I asked in the Beta Testing thread a few weeks ago about beta testing. You said that you'd be looking for beta testers for v2. Is it possible to volunteer to be one? Or, to volunteer to be added to a list of possible beta testers?
Also, does the v2 carry all our information over from v1? For instance, you said you would get certain amounts of Fame for completing certain 'tasks', such as sending your first PM. Seeing as, for example, I have already sent a PM, will I automatically have the points that you would receive for completing the 'task'?
Or, do we have to start completely from scratch (except for post count)?

actually quite nice, what finish is it though?

I'm almost completely sure that it's Smooth Finish. When comparing it to my Aladdin decks, they seem to be the exact same finish. But, as it doesn't say anywhere on the box, I can't know for sure.

I wish I'd got a chance to order them on the first release date, especially as I would have got an extra deck for free!
Oh well. I'll have to make do with picking one up from a reseller. :P

Playing Card Plethora / Re: Gilded edges on the Aladdin 1002
« on: January 10, 2012, 03:16:42 PM »
I have to agree, the edges do look amazing.

This is the Bicycle Bape (Bathing Ape) deck

Wow. That looks absolutely incredible! My Aladdin 1002s are almost as nice, but not quite. It seems the gold wasn't all applied at the same time; the gold doesn't exactly flow well. There are different angles to it and all kinds of things. But it still looks great.
But this deck looks like the gold has been applied perfectly, and it flows throughout the deck, if you know what I mean. It's astounding!

Playing Card Plethora / Re: Sharpie-ing the edges of your black decks
« on: January 10, 2012, 03:12:35 PM »
The only way you could do red, is if both sides of the cards were full-bleed red.  Just like you can't black sharpie a white deck.

But I am curious to see if it turns out... anybody want to crack open the Red Deck from MagicMakers?

I was going to suggest using the Red Deck from MagicMakers, until I remembered it has normal red rider backs, so it'd have a white border rather than a red one.
But, would the deck really need both sides to be full-bleed red? I thought the only probably with using black Sharpie on a white deck was the fact that the ink 'leaked' a bit, and showed on the front and back of the card. So, why not use a black deck like Shadow Masters? Surely the red ink 'leaks' would be hidden by the fact that the deck has full-bleed black on both sides. The only problem would be doing it on a white bordered deck, where the red ink would be visible.

I love the design of the deck, and if possible I hope to pick up this deck, but it certainly doesn't seem the most practical deck out there. That's pretty much a given, though; this deck looks like it's a pseudo-transformation deck.

I did asked Syd about my requested signed card on 29 Dec. His reply was

"As for the signed card, there was a little bit of a back up and a large amount were just mailed out. I know will be mailed out next week too. You should get a card in 2-3 weeks."

I still haven't receive one but hey, it's free and the postage to New Zealand is not cheap either.

Oh, there was a mass of requests? I guess it's comforting to hear that the requests were just all caught up in one big delay, rather than totally ignored. I hope the one I requested is on its way!

I just got my Aladdin 1002 decks in the mail. The boxes look so crazy. It's just a crazy mix of colours. :P
Anyway, I cracked it open and messed around with it for a bit to see the handling. As many have said before me, it was pretty shocking. Every fan I try, the deck splits into about 6 clumps, and I can't seem to get it any better than that. Also, when I opened the deck, I had to manually separate all the cards; they had all stuck to each other in pairs of two, and it was pretty hard to get some of them apart.
Definitely don't get these for the handling, but I think the look almost makes up for this major drawback. I'm split between looks and handling on most decks, but I think although the handling sucks for this deck, the appearance almost outweighs it. The sides look so cool; the gilded edges are obviously the reason for this, and I actually really love the Aladdin back design anyway.
But, yeah. The handling absolutely sucks.

1. Back design is basically a horrible version of the Artifice design.
2. Ace of Spades is clearly an over-simplified Arcane spade.
3. More skulls + black deck = no thank you for me. At least Karnival has original art in their grunge ridden cards.

Also, Kickstarter is only for people in the US. If you're international you can't start a project on it. Hence why IGG exists. However, it is much less popular and it seems that this is the second playing card project on there that directly steals artwork and attempts to pass it off as original. This one is less blatant about it because all thefts are conceptual.

Exactly what I thought! I'll definitely pass up on this deck.

Leatherette is a vague description.  It can look like a leather jacket, same texture, same softness, same drape (or only some of the listed attributes), but paperboard textured to look and feel like leather could also be called leatherette.

Yeah, that's what I thought; it could be a number of different things. But when you look at the back of the box, it looks like smooth cardboard, like any regular set of Bikes. I thought it's unlikely that they would make the tuckbox front a different texture to the back of it. But who knows? I guess we'll find out when someone here gets their decks.
