Try to post just "+1" on this forum :)

I gave a project the bennifit of the doubt once and assumed it wasn't a scam. Key word there, Once. Cause guess what? Yea, it was a scam haha. I lost my $7 and ended up buying the guy, or girl, lunch.

Whether this particular one is a scam or not, not for me to say. I can say I absolutely won't pledge on this. May as well have called it Red Flag in my opinion. Would get the same reaction out of me. I don't think this project will fund, if it does, I don't think he'll fulfill it. There is nothing there, at all.

...Just saying I would hope the guy just made a bunch of mistakes.

I agree with @John B.

Keep this up, you two, and I'll get you some TOPICal ointment...

(Seriously - please rein it in.  Thanks.)  :))

Ok. Just the latest one. Answer my PM, please. Thanks

...Side note: Anyone else think the photo of two lighters and burning card is completely stupid? It's the 80's anymore and not cool. I wish people would stop making that silly crap. Playing cards, paper, it burns. We got it the first time, years ago. Side note to side note: Burning planes, even worse.

That's true. 21th century, people. Use laser  ;)

I agree with this.

The art has a quirky raw style, I am not really into it though.
The project as a whole seems really unplanned. If the deck was first designed 20 years ago, what is the rush now? How can they get to people by Christmas if they are shipping from China? The price seems insane to me...

Ditto from me, brother.  USPC is functioning at the level they are because they lost their pride in their products.  They became a division of a megacorp that cares about the bottom line and little else...

I have to think the same.

New back, opinions please!  :)
I can certainly see how much work went into this.  But for my tastes, it doesn't read Art Nouveau.  It reads geometric, now in a more stained-glass style.
...
My problem is that the fronts and the backs just don't go together--they come across as very different styles.

I agree with @GBAllison regarding back's style, but somehow it doesn't cause me any discomfort. I guess this is all my subjective taste :-\

... Welcome Collector and thanks for the link!..

Thanks. I must say, that it’s a little bit strange to be welcomed on this forum these days. While completing the recent Lee’s survey, I couldn’t remember the date of my registration on this forum. I thought 2012. I checked. Nope, it was October, 2011  :o. So, I have to think that I’ve been absent for a long time  :)

...
Do I really need to write "off topic" every time I go "off topic"? Because I go "off topic" a lot, and if I have to type "off Topic" every time I go "off topic" well that could take a while...  ;D

Off Topic  :P

This is off-topic for off-topic of off-topic for a special topic :P

Concerning the deck... well, you know.

It's "funny" start  :) I have to agree with this

:D :D "The coolest deck in the world"

the best presentation also...

I assume that the creator is this student from Sweden
Daniel Olsson: http://www.behance.net/darniel
He has artistic skills, IMHO. But I doubt about his managerial abilities.

Also this can be an attempt of defamation. It's cool that Kickstarter approves such projects. We all can see how seriously they fight with scams on their site.

...The box is supposed to look like a book, so they're pages...

Is this an answer on my question? If yes, I have to think that you didn’t understand me. Your idea about A book is obvious, actually. I asked about its front.

Sorry for vandalism.

These should be in form of an art book instead of playing cards.

“Art playing cards” are very popular these days despite someone’s subjective opinions :)

But I agree about the pricing. It can be a problem.

Can someone explain me how 10-20 “early birds” will help to fund this project? I think it will only help several people who know about the project to get potential decks cheaper.

My question was about Rose’s badge. I couldn’t imagine that I had to go to “Feedback + Support" branch to find out that :) Looked for some explanations in this branch of the forum, didn’t find anything, and decided to ask.
Thank you, all, for your answers. They all were useful and amicable.

...There are still openings in the Embassy if you're interested!

I am a promoter :)

Just out of curiosity, you mentioned the Jack of Spades needed work. Did the new hair help?

Sorry for this vandalism. I tried to show my hints regarding face. Also I tried to explain why I think previous “banana” style was nice as a general approach. I am not a designer, so choose wise caliber of stones before...

I like the blue lips. And I love blue lipstick in real life. I would love to see this on the end result

You are a "gourmet", sir. :)

...
Collector: it's true, but it wasn't always the Ace of Spades.  I've seen Spanish and Argentinian decks where it was one of the fours that received the tax stamp.  My Fournier decks still have a maker's marque on one of the fours (for the life of me I can't remember which suit).

You are right. We spoke about aces, so I said about them. People stamp them on cards that had a lot of free space for that purpose. In case of more or less standard arrangement of pips, 2s, 4s, and aces were the best choise.

167
Artworks are nice. Do you really need those crossing white lines on the front part of the tuck case?

168
The book is nice. The red seal is strange (colour). My horribly subjective opinion - blue one can be better.

I agree with Justin O., but I also like "halo effect". Can it be modern understanding of Art Nouveau?

Also:
- can the top part of "Q" index be on the same level with the point of big Spades pip?
- can you try to prolong the embellished edge of the circle (near the Queen's hand) until mid of the card?

I don't think Blaine is going to do every color in the rainbow. 4 is a good number.

“Rainbow” and “rainbow approach” were exaggerated names :) I meant classic red-blue-green-black(-white-silver-gold) combinations.

...the GatorBacks look best in Green simply due to the nature of the subject (the same way the Imps look best in red due to the subject)....

+1

"Rainbows" are the problem for those collectors who want have all decks in their collection but with really different courts. They have their right to criticize the "rainbow" approach in modern playing card production. But I noticed more irony in this thread than anger, actually. Which is good as it shows that the forum's residents are mainly realists.

I personally feel that neither collectors (nor anyone else) have the "right" to criticise designers for releasing multiple colors - it's not a money grab unless they somehow coerce you into buying stuff you don't actually want, imo... If you have a problem/compulsion that drives you to collect every single color/variation released (I sort of do =P), then the only person you have a "right" to criticise is yourself!

I think it's nonsensical/silly to criticise designers for "forcing" you or grabbing your money against your will by releasing multiple colors... It's totally the collector's call as to whether to buy or not to buy each color! If it makes you mad, that's a bit weird, but just don't buy it then! No need to criticise... If the market will bear it (ie enough people buy them to cover costs and maybe make some profit), then generally speaking they made the right call...

My two cents... Sorry if they're not well written - I'm super sleepy right now...=P

Actually it's well written. And in some way your are right. But I can't agree with you completely.

First of all, everyone can/should  criticise everyone... but in respectful manner and without such approach as "I say, you do".

Second, let me be a little bit more general - all modern producers of almost all goods say that they don't force people to buy their production. But it isn't true. Otherwise, who invented neuromarketing and why (any marketing, actually). "Satisfy people's needs" was the main slogan of marketing some years ago. It isn't interesting these days. The modern one is "Create needs for people and convince them in such needs". Playing card producers aren't sharks in this approach but they apply some elements from it. So, they are "forcing" ;) The main thing here is the correct estimation of possibilities of customers. Otherwise, you can overdo it and get some opposite result.

I think Blaine is far from overdoing it. Many people will really like four basic colours of backs (red-blue-green-black). Also he doesn't do anything new. All his previous decks had the same colours, I think.

It is a good Ace of Spades.  And that story about the tax stamp?  It's largely for decks made and sold in Great Britain...

Agree. Almost all aces were used for that purpose in different countries.

That's it, I've had enough!!

From the beginning, the general consensus was that the hair on the courts was weird. Looked like bananas, intestines, snakes, etc. I wouldn't disagree with any of those. It's true.

Your comments didn't fall on deaf ears. I looked around online at how hair is done, went back and made some changes. Here's a new direction, I hope you guys like it.

I'll be modifying all of them in the next few days.

Ah, in the end of the day I have to specify myself due to these cards. This is only my thoughts. I didn't mention all cards in my post regarding beards and moustaches. And I didn't say anything about hair. I think that style was nice (even better for these cards). I only think that those specific cards needed improvements in appropriate details. Those beards and moustaches looked like something artificially sticked to faces. All other courts have better designed "bananas" (if you like to call it so).

Aces are nice.

Blue lips of the girl kill me. I hope this is a joke.
