Collector, can you elaborate on that a little more?

Don and Justin O. helped me in this. Thanks, colleagues.

Beards and moustaches are the main problem of this deck (The Jack of Spades, The Jack of Hearts, The Jack of Clubs and The King of Diamonds). Even this one looks better:

Everything else is interesting. It can be even better than the first edition. Good luck.

I agree with Don's first comments. But the problematic sizing of courts is the problem of the design not of overall sizes of courts. So, they can be improved by redesign but not by resizing of the whole figures. On the other hand a lot of collectors don't care about such details, so...

Why do they have so many hands?  :)

Good luck.

Eating of playing cards is harmful to the health.  8)

I think Lee will do (in case of his desire) some interesting deck on the basis of the idea. He is attentive to details.

...the GatorBacks look best in Green simply due to the nature of the subject (the same way the Imps look best in red due to the subject)....

"Rainbows" are the problem for those collectors who want have all decks in their collection but with really different courts. They have their right to criticize the "rainbow" approach in modern playing card production. But I noticed more irony in this thread than anger, actually. Which is good as it shows that the forum's residents are mainly realists.

I’ve never thought about CARC or JP Playing Cards as fulfillment companies. But as we started to discuss them from this side, I can say that I got nicely packaged decks from CARC (before KWP era). On the other hand they are quite a big company that sells different specific goods. So, their packaging was the work of professionals.

JP Playing Cards is the other thing. I didn’t remember exactly what and how many layers his package had (a lot). But I remember my impression. I think Paul can easily sell porcelain :) It wasn’t the production sample from a professional. It was “hand made” :)

And @Rose, don’t worry. Jackson has even more “refined” methods to demonstrate that he is a very conceited and disrespectful person. Don’t take it close to your heart.

...  I doubt that any of my forum's participants will be sticking around, either, after I've discussed this situation with them - all 10,000-plus of them...

I wish Ellusionist decided do not produce a nautical deck with the Ace of Spades created by Valentina Badeanu, the designer of the Absinthe’s back.
http://playingcardcollector.net/2014/11/06/ace-of-spades-by-valentina-badeanu/

Who knows?  E might not print it, but E's not the only deck producer in the world...

Is this an assumption or something more? :)

Really original idea. Interesting.

185
Only Jokers are AWFUL in this deck.

186
Geometrical objects always simplify the creation of symmetrically drawn playing cards. The symmetry of this nice design is based on a simple reflection of an illustration. I think it can be improved. I tried to draw my idea.

The King of Hearts makes me to be careful in my preliminary opinion about this deck. Tuck case and backs are nice.

Tomorrow.
Come on, people, everything is in our hands. It's just several hours of posting :)

Don’s “iPhone” video is better than some “professional” videos on Youtube. He just needs to work with its sound and remove some background noise. Well-trained pleasant voice and the best angle for shooting such reviews as you always see cards with the reviewer.

Annie is prettier than any queen in Uuis's decks :)

Interesting. Thanks for this pleasant compromise between "court cards for magicians" and "court cards for collectors".

Interesting design and cultural/historical background.

193
I think "smoking" is a cultural thing where in Europe it is not such a big bad thing as it is in the US and Australia.

People equally die due to this "cultural thing" in Europe, in Australia, in the US, in any other country. As a rule, its popularity doesn't have nothing common with "culture". Some countries just have stronger tobacco lobby and, as the result, weaker laws.

About playing cards. Job isn't well done as there is no unity in the design. For example, the Queen of Clubs has well-thought (almost) really symmetrical design (not just a symmetrical reflection of the same picture with some separator between two parts). The queen of Hearts doesn't have (almost has). The Jack of Clubs doesn't have at all. The Jack of Hearts conditionally has. Does the King of Hearts have a skateboard in his other hand? It could be a cool deck regardless its theme. But its designer decided do not overwork. Procceding from other comments, he was right in this question :)

Good luck with the project. I guess such deck has its right to exist. Just a deck dedicated to smoking.

Design & Development / Re: List of "Golden Rules"

If you could make a list of rules for deck designing, what are some of your must haves? ...

"There are no rules" ;)

In reality, they can be only for different categories of playing cards because such categories are conventionally formed by them. Transformation playing cards should have traditionally disposed pips incorporated into some artwork. The quantity of such pips should correspond to the number of approprite card. Changed disposition of pips will mean semi-transformation playing cards. You can't create Pin-Up playing cards by placing photos of museums on their faces. etc.

...I've seen good feedbacks on other forums, and could not keep myself from commenting your agressive feedback on almost every single deck here. What is your problem? Your criticism is absolutely unconstructive. If you know how to do it better - just make your suggestions...

Just want to quote @Fes in connection with the above quoted.

...always something in it that holds value...

Opinion is really feedback. But it can be formulated in different ways. I’ve finished reading of the branch dedicated to Bicycle Rongorongo Playing Cards.

@vovkalex

IMHO: Nice Pisces but remove them from the borders. Playing cards and some collage are different things.
The lady itself is really nice. Don't spoil the Queen of Spades with unnecessary elements.

I like limited edition, I don't think that is a negative thing. Limited edition shouldnt be a derogatory term.

"Limited" is one of the three turtles for any collector world... only when that word really means something. It does mean nothing for collecting of modern playing cards. Why? Don will explain you better ;)

Collector, the problem with the word "Limited" has always been the definition and assumed definition..............poor word didn't do anything wrong, lol
...Limited isn't derogatory - it's effectively been rendered meaningless instead, which I suppose is an even worse fate than being derogatory.

+1
I don't have anything against words. Their meaning is more important.

Let's turn to the classics. Not Uusi but Numismatics.

Show me "re-coinage" (non-existent word but you will understand) of commemorative coins from the United States Mint. Can it add one dot to the design of the minted coins and mint them again as a "new edition"? Can it make a new packaging for minted coins and justify a new issue of them in that way? Can it sell the design to someone who will mint them as a new run of American dollars? The United States Mint isn't represented by some Bob who orally promises "People, 2500 coins, no more, I swear on my honour, honestly, honestly, honestly... at least this month".

I hope you understand what I am talking about. But all producers of playing cards consciously try to get the effect of "the U.S. Mint's limited run of coins" by their Limited editions. So, the only guarantee of limited run for playing cards is a word of some person. But any person is a human and quite often has weak will.

My summary:
Pay more attention to decks' design and the content of your wallet instead of "Limited Edition" label. Do you still want real limited editions of playing cards? The world of vintage playing cards welcomes you. And memorize the magic (or even magick) word “chromolithography” in this case.

Just in case, we're not working with him either.

So let us know if our name magically appears anywhere in association with that project.

heh, this got a chuckle. Artwork is just a small part of doing these projects, as we can clearly see...

I thought it would be "Just in case, we're not working with him either." :)

...Insure that each deck has unique court cards in every suit...

Try a more attractive tuck box design...

A three-deck project from a new deck design group may have been a bit too ambitious.  Perhaps start with one, then make the others as either stretch goals or individual projects...

+ + +

About three-deck project. The problem isn't even in your ambitions. You have three ABSOLUTELY different decks. It can't be easy to promote them all. Target audiences are very different. One can attract cat lovers (a huge audience, by the way). Other can attract people interested in space, etc. Playing card collectors aren't your only audience on Kickstarter.

+ promote;
+ communicate about your decks;
+ pay attention to backs of your playing cards.

Good luck.

Interesting decks. There are a lot of hidden symbols in them. My 2 cents:
