These look pretty awesome! Some of the stuff they built was really impressive, and it's a great idea.
But again, I'm pretty tight for cash right now, and I'm unlikely to get anything that isn't a deck of cards.

These look pretty nice. It's interesting to see a vintage design for something other than Bicycles. I'll be sure to pick them up and expand my Aladdin collection.

I've watched some reviews that said it made them handle badly, and some that said it didn't affect their handling at all.
I ordered some from eBay a couple of months ago, but they haven't arrived yet. I'll be sure to let you know how they affect handling when I get them and open them up. :)

Wow, I had no idea that this deck fetched such a high price. No wonder it was so hard to find. Thanks for explaining, guys. I must have sounded like a right idiot, wanting it for $20.  ::)
Also, Alex, who's DelMagic?

Playing Card Plethora / Re: D&D variety boxes list from v1-v5
« on: January 03, 2012, 07:51:32 PM »
The only Variety Box that I really would want to get is the v1. The early S&M versions, the Jerry's and the original Split Spades are the decks that really interest me. It seems the boxes then continue on to get worse and worse with each edition.

I'm interested in the Variety Box: Vintage Edition that's up for grabs in their holiday contest...

Yeah, me too. It looks very interesting; I can see a Jerry's Nugget, a Golden Nugget, an Aristocrat, a Stud and an old Bicycle deck. All of which would be very nice to get. Fingers crossed that at least someone from the Discourse wins it, so we can get pictures of all the decks!

its due to casinos have alcohol and you must be 21 to drink and so they made that the age to get into casinos. atleast to my knowledge which is why im not there right now :)

Ah, okay. That makes sense. And I guess the casino age limit is 18 because that's when you're legally allowed to drink alcohol in the UK. Well, actually, there's technically no age limit on alcohol; it's legal to drink alcohol at home at any age. But obviously, this is in public, and without a meal.

I'm sorry to break it to you, but I don't think $20 will be enough. Now I don't have one, but I was on one of Lance's live shows when he was developing the Actuators, and he was talking to someone, and Lance and the other guy were talking about how those decks were fetching upwards of $150 a deck. I think it's crazy, and I wish you the best, but I just want to let you know it will be very difficult to get one for that price.

Wow! Ouch. I didn't see that coming. Thanks for letting me know. I doubt I'll be getting one now...
But still, if anyone can show me someone or someplace that has one to sell, that'd be useful. Cheers. :)

The Conversation Parlor / Re: D&D point system : product review

You get points for doing reviews and other stuff on their website (like making a purchase) and these points can be used as cash on your purchases

Ah. Interesting idea. Thanks for the explanation!

So I ordered 2 of these decks and received them today. Be warned....they are trash and so is the "tuck box" it is a simple small white box with a flimsy plastic window showing the cards inside. And the cards themselves....ya know....I'm not even going to strain my fingers. If it is rare a collectible, great...other than that....trash.

But, that is just out of the box...things may change. As of now, fans are clumpy and springs are chunky.

Well, then. I won't be picking up a deck of these. xD Seriously, I wasn't too fond of the back design, and I was only going to buy the deck on the off chance that it would handle nicely. I was telling myself there was always a chance that it had outstanding handling, but I kept putting off the actual buying of it. I'm glad I did, now! Thanks for saving me $12.50, sinsandman! ;)

I've been interested in this deck for a while. It was a limited edition deck that Lance T. Miller made for his Gargoyles deck; a prototype deck, of sorts. I'm not sure why it was made as a Labelexpo deck. I'm guessing it was given away at Labelexpo or something.
It comes with a thick plastic covering showing some art on it instead of cellophane. The card backs are the same as the normal Gargoyles deck, just a lot darker. The faces all show normal Bicycle faces instead of the finished faces, except for the Ace of Spades which is the same as the finished version although, again, a lot darker.
Lance sold them on his website for $5 each, although they're sold out now. I've contacted him multiple times through the Contact section of his website, but I have not received any reply from him.
I'm really looking to get hold of this deck, so if any of you have it, or can tell me where I could purchase it, that'd be great.
Of course, I'd love to get it at the original price of $5, but I doubt I'll find that deal anywhere. So I'd be willing to go up to $20. Thanks.

Sorry, can someone explain to me what this is?
Do you get discounts on products if you submit reviews to the D&D site?

Playing Card Plethora / Re: Anyone wanna help a newbie out?

I'm primarily a card collector, although I'm also interested in magic, card sleights, flourishes and cardistry. Basically, anything that involves card manipulation.
So, as I'm a collector, I hate wearing out any decks; I love to keep my decks either sealed, or if they're not sealed, then I keep them in brilliant condition. So instead of using fancy/expensive decks to do my flourishing, I crack open some plain old Bicycles (definitely Cincinatti ones over Erlanger ones), Bees or Tally-Hos. I find the Tally-Hos to be the best when it comes to card manipulation. They seem to hold up for a lot longer, as long as you're using Cincinatti ones. Although, the Cincinatti Bicycles handle almost the same as Cincinatti Tally-Hos, in my opinion.
To be honest, my advice is to use whichever deck you think feels the nicest in your own hands, is the cheapest, or is the easiest to get hold of. Standard Bees, Bikes and Tally-Hos aren't amazing, but I think they're pretty good, especially considering their price. And for a beginner, I'd probably recommend those over any fancier, more expensive decks.

I actually heard about these Golden Nugget decks a few days ago, and have been looking for them on eBay, or just generally trying to get hold of them. No luck, though. Instead, I've just been looking around for some general information about them. So thanks for that link, John. :)

Haha, like a couple of others I've seen before me, if I do end up going to Vegas, I'll be sure to drop round. It'd be awesome to check out your collection. :D
But, don't hold your breath. It'll be quite a few years before I visit Vegas. ;) Speaking of which, what's the gambling age in Vegas?

The thread was created by the designer (Randy Butterfield), and he's been posting pictures and keeping us up to date.

Haha, due to the negative reception of this eBay seller and auction, I've decided to lock the thread now.
Sorry about linking you an unreliable auction, guys!

I wouldn't touch this sale with a ten-foot pole.  The seller refuses to reveal what decks are in the box?  Shipping is $30!?  My red flags are waving.

Yeah, I guess you're right. The fact that he's not showing what decks are in it is certainly suspicious. And are you saying that the shipping is cheap or expensive? Because $30 shipping to the UK for that is pretty cheap; David Blaine's Variety Box costed $41.70 to be shipped to the UK.

Playing Card Plethora / D&D Variety Box v1 on eBay

I'm just quickly saying that you can get the Dan and Dave Variety Box v1 over on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/120834260445?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649
The auction ends in about 3 hours, and I'm guessing the price will get pretty high, but I just wanted to give a heads up to any collectors eager to get this box.
Don't worry, it's not my auction; this isn't self-advertising. Just thought I'd let you guys know, in case there's one of you who's been wanting the v1 box.
I'll lock the topic when the auction's over.  :) Also, I didn't know whether this was the right place to post this or not, so just let me know if I've put it in the wrong place. Thanks.

Yeah, the boxes have got worse and worse. The only thing here that I actually have any desire for is the IAOCP, and even that deck isn't top of my list.

Wow. You can definitely count me as a backer. The design on these cards is amazing. It's so beautiful and intricate. Honestly, I'm almost speechless. Great job, especially as it's your first deck!
