Playing Card Plethora / New Deck - David Blaine White Lions Gaff Deck
« on: December 18, 2012, 08:04:39 AM »
http://shop.davidblaine.com/products/db-leather-card-clip

This one has been sort of flying under our radar here. I first got word a couple of days ago at UC about this deck. I am curious to see what lies inside and probably use them. The porper clips also look very nice. Anyone from Singapore wants to grab this and work out a trade? :D

Here's the write-up on the site for those of you who are lazy to click the link:

"These clips are the second release to come from the collaboration of David Blaine and Lawrence Sullivan. Their style and functionality has been designed with uncompromising standards for David's and a select few magicians personal use- these highly sought after clips are now available for serious magicians only.  Limited to only 22 clips, which come with 37 never-before-released Gaff White Lion Red and Blue cards.

The process begins in the USA with a laser-etched Joe Porper card clip, adorned with extremely high quality Brown and Black leather.  Skilled artisans treat the exposed rough metal edges in a labor intensive process typically reserved for high-end wallets and handbags. This rubber-like finishing adds an extra touch of class for individuals who demand unmatched quality and style.

Available in black leather and dark brown leather.  Black leather clip also comes with a leather wallet that holds up to 20 playing cards."

Dont quite dig the AoS. The printing company is probably the same on that printed the moth/myth decks.

Oh wow.   I just looked it.   Good find john.

Thank you. Thank you. :Karita:

Its also on all of the Series B decks.
Didn't know that either.
Guys I just find it strange as i was playing with my marked split spades and there is that blue box error too. However they are not on the original split spades lions. Coincidentally, all the decks that contained the errors are from the Erlanger plant. QC problem on the proof sheet? Or something else?

So can the difference be due to how much finish is applied or how many times it's applied? Just a random thought. Cus there are still some decks that come out of the Erlanger plant that feels different.

They would definitely not cost as much as the original but the reason I think they have not sold out yet is because they cost slightly more than the average deck which is actually good for the aftermarket as the inflation would not be as much during the initial phase when they have not sold out but no one really knows what will happen after they sell out (if u know what I am saying).

As for the quality, I reckon that the smoke and mirrors just have this this distinct feel that packets stay together during aeriel cuts but the deck still fans nicely.

just recieved mine today and cracked them all open! the v3s are using a slightly darkened card stock, you will definetly notice it on the white ones and the v4,v5,v7 has metallic backs and the hearts and diamonds are the color of the deck and are metallic as well, same with some of the court cards. They got a wierd smell but will sure go away after some time. I really enjoy this collection and do not regret buying it even tho people dislike the are reprints its great for the people who do not have the money to blow on the originals oh and it has a bit smaller borders and softer stock

I was starting to get very tempted to buy these but in the end I found that it would be more fulfilling to get the originals. My reason being that they are rarer and have a lot more charisma and history to them.
In a few years to come, these will turn rarer and have a much history to the too. Factoring in the custom seals, signatures and the custom box, I think they are definitely worth the price. What you are paying for is guaranteed quality.

I remember that joker one now. He signed those and gave them out for a period of time right?

I was just running through some old DB videos for inspiration and saw this card with a 3 of hearts reveal on the AoS of the split spades deck. It was a trick from the Dive of Death special. I know the split spades has some gaffs created like those that came with the recent split spades variety box, but after seeing this vid I think there is bound to be more. I am pretty interested in gaff and their potential. Anyone has other gaff ,other than the ones mentioned, from the split spades deck that they would like to share?

I created The Card Catalog project because I wanted the challenge of coming up with new ways of essentially photographing the same type of subject (flat sheets of paper and a cardboard box).  So far it continues to be a lot of fun and keeps me thinking of new ways to be creative.

Where is this project of which you speak?  :))  It sounds cool.
Its on Instagram! http://instagram.com/thecardcatalog

Penguin magic is selling the green crown deck for just $0.01! yes you heard it right $0.01. Offer ends in slightly less than 2 hours.

Heres the link:

Thank you so much, Siegismyname! Just placed an order with them! They only allow ONE green deck, the Red and Blue are selling at $6.00 each. But ONE green crown for $0.01 is good!
No problem. Its now back to its normal price. They actually handle very nicely, have a nice Ace but I dont like the arrco faces (arrco pips are big and nice though). The jokers and the faces are what kills this deck for me. The backs are also not to my taste.

They might make a nice gift to hand to a girl after doing a trick with this deck for her. If I add this to my collection, the collector in me would want to get the Maeda Tallys. I do not see myself performing with these too, thus I would pass on these.

Does this deck actually have a name yet?  Or a release date?  Teasers get annoying when they're drawn out for too long.
this deck is called the virtuoso deck and is a limited launch edition. It's estimated launch date is sometime mid December tentatively. All my info is from the virt insider Facebook page :)

not a fan of this deck, the dragons look stupid to me... ⊙_⊙
The dragons on the tuck doesn't appeal to me. But I think the dragons and tiger/lion on the back looks good. Wouldn't it be great if they included the Blaine Porper clips to a few lucky people who buy this deck, just like how they are running a lucky draw for the 15-min Skype session with David Blaine himself.

New pictures of the Virts deck Ace of Spades. Its actually scliced straight out from the back design itself if you look closely.

After John mentioning the fact about the thick border i compared the Bicycle Skull & Bones KoS with the White Lions KoS.
Dont ask me why :)

For me its David Blaine himself on both KoS!
It has always been him for the conjuring cards decks and all Blaine decks. The JoC on the White Lions series A and B is Dan and Dave just so you know, although the JoC is different in A and B but it's still suppose to resemble them. ;)

Still haven't received mine. Nice finding the mistake in the JoC. Didnt notice them up till just now when I went to verify my series Bs. How about the courts? Are they white lion Series A, Series B or split spades lions courts or another variant?

I have the series B.

I also see a custom brick box. Nice. Was lucky to get myself a brick.

Guess I will be expecting mine in the mail sometime this week. So they don't handle as awesome as the previous split spades?
