Playing Card Plethora / Re: Framed Uncuts
« on: February 24, 2012, 09:53:25 PM »
Those look really cool, and since they are protected it isn`t a waste of decks.

I have 1 framed uncut and it is a Deck One deck from T11.

I believe it should look even better in brown_bagg coffee table. This is simply... a breakfast shop, the tables, the chairs, and the atmosphere are not good enough. :P

Actually I have 3 Deck One (from T11) and 3 S&M v5 (from D&D), but never think of framing them. They are still staying in their original tubes :( :(

Imagine having the uncut protected by two sheets of glass! If it was done right it would be sweet. Having an uncut sheet as a coffee table 8)

This is a breakfast shop in Taiwan, yes, people have their breakfast on these tables. (I stole the pics this time)

This is interesting, it may display 2 sides and can hold at most 10 sheets in it.

« on: February 24, 2012, 08:51:14 PM »
Those look pretty good!! I haven't really been following the actuator project too closely, but that picture is great! I'm a big fan of those uncuts.

I don't follow the Actuator either, not my style.
loldudex2 mentioned the uncut is $75, it is more expensive than D&D's :o :o

Playing Card Plethora / Re: Sharpie-ing the edges of your decks
« on: February 24, 2012, 08:37:50 PM »
My experience:
1. use a better quality marker instead of the Sharpie if you may find one
2. paint the cards one by one
3. paint on the thin and long plain of the cut edges

I don't know how many people understand the "cutting angle" I mentioned, but it is very important. By finding the cutting angle, you may paint the edges effeciently (with only one stroke) and prevent the edges from being ruined. Everyone may paint his cards well and make them look awesome, however, I guess most of them can not faro successfully after the edges are painted.

I sharpied my Tattoo deck - talk about rough edges that needed smoothing! They look sweet now too.

Pictures tell a thousand words!

Or in Taiwanese, "No pic, no truth". ???

Just for the heck of it, I use erdnaiseums hehehe.
Anyway, the grip I use is usually the mechanics or the gamblers grip. I try to keep my deck grip uniform so people wont get the impression of me handling the cards a different way on different tricks. Maybe its just me...  :-\

It's not just you, every performer should do likewise, it's a good habit.

I said I use different grips, because most of the time we have different spectators, we may use them to practice different grips (or sleights). Interactive experience is as important as self-practicing. Maybe its just me. :P :P

o.O
His deck wouldn't even fit his own clip? Hmm...anyone else experienced this with the Blades?

We know not every deck has the same thickness and Joe Porper card clips have different sizes (at least there are 2 sizes on E : standard and slightly larger). Blades clip really surprised me though I know the reason. They were produced at almost the same time (in fact, the clip was earlier than the deck), de'vo didn't the chance to test the clips and decks first. Now the Skulkor decks and clips are coming out at the same time, so... be careful :P :P

I'm sure it'll fit, maybe just tighter. I've got my decks with jokers in and they go into my clip just fine. Maybe get the larger clip from E? That'll fit for sure.

Don't be too confident. :P :P
When I got the Blades decks and the clips from de'vo, I put a deck into the clip. They were so match, the only problem was I could not separate them. "Till death do us part", I heard that from the deck...

I might be the only one who don't need custom faces  :( :(
Don't get me wrong, I like special custom faces too, but don't really need them (and thus it is not the key point for me to buy a deck or not). When I use a deck of playing cards, 99 percent of the time, the cards are face down....

Originally I just watched and would not say anything because Steamboats here are cheap (even cheaper than Tallys), but now I have to say "GREAT DEAL" after seeing this auction: http://www.ebay.com/itm/251003110048
Dealers are always so smart, when they search eBay and realize no one else selling the deck, they raise the price.

Wait Apollo was from Eric Duan as well? I always thought it was a US-designed product...

Yes. Everytime when I saw Kete introducing a new decks that still had no information on foreign forums (here foreign means non-Chinese you know), I knew he got the information or even the deck from China dealers (he was the first person who got the Pirates and Apollo decks and wrote in-depth reviews on them).

They strategically do so and I know Pirates and Appolo are manipulated by some China dealers. :'(

True story. I'm not sure how did manage to do that to the Apollo deck, but the Pirates was easy since the designer was Chinese. All they had to do was purchase a large quantity at retail rate and sell off slowly with increasing profit.

Pirates, Apollo, Tetralogy, ... the same designer... ???

Probably not. I believe it started off as $20 a set, and that's at the high end already. But it was a short print run, the price eventually got pushed up by the resellers.

I WAY prefer the mechanic grip for bottom deal.  I have a slight preference for it for second deals but the biddle grip has its advantages as well.

I see, everyone has his preferred grip that fits his hand and makes him feel comfortable. Sometimes it depends on the mood I am in, yesterday I use Master grip, today I use Erdnase grip :-[

Magical Cardistry Bonanza / Re: How to table faro?
« on: February 23, 2012, 06:04:51 AM »
@Joshua, I wish I could but my digital camera was borrowed by my sister and she doesn't live with me (now I have only an old DSLR that can not record video clips). As Nathan mentioned, anti-faro is one of the most difficult card sleights and it is taught in the "Que Raro!" DVD (Christian Engblom & Dani Daortiz). You should try to get the DVD, Christian Engblom (the creator) explains the theory (like "car racing" in his words) and emphasizes the importance of the angle. Though I don't think he teaches this sleight well, all the stuff in the DVD is very creative.

Besides, sometime last year I found there was another tutorial coming out, but I didn't pay much attention to it. It teaches reverse (backward) anti-faro, in that the cards are sprang off the thumb. So far as I know, Paul Wilson does reverse anti-faro too. I don't remember the title of the DVD, you might need to Google the keywords mentioned above.

Actually there are more and more anti-faro videos on YouTube, they are also very good tutorials when you start practicing it.  ;)

I guess most people use any deck at hand  :P :P

EDIT:
I am more curious about people prefer which grip especially when doing bottom deal?
