Magical Cardistry Bonanza / Re: how do you practice you tricks?
« on: February 23, 2012, 03:11:39 AM »
i normally practice my magic and i need a table so i cant practice to the mirror...

When doing table work, I use a webcam. It is so important to know what a spectator sees from his position...

I just checked the Trace series on Taiwan auctions, I thought they might be cheaper here (not so many collectors and no one wants those decks), but I was wrong. The Trace series is 1,450 NTD/deck here, about $48-50 USD. :-\ :-\ :-\

@sxjy0109, what's the year of your Expert Back? It seems to be in good condition.

if the fan back have red pip that would be a awesome deck .. i dun even know why the circle backs have the red pip while the fan back have all silver .. they should make all red pips

That's the main reason that I only bought Circle Back Vipers. As for regular Tallys, I like fan backs slightly more :P :P

Show you what I meant. The following pics were taken before I painted the edges. The Bicycle Alchemy has awesome artwork, however we can only see the colored edges from the face side. (this deck is traditional cut too)

Those look barely touched even from the face side, it just looks like you're doing it wrong. The entire side of the deck should be red after you're done...

Again, you missed something. ??? ???

I won't try other colors, but this thread helps me much. Many of my friends know I hate black bordered decks because of the white chipping. Now I don't hate them that much and might buy some in the future.  :P

@Russell, they are beautiful. ;)

Anyone tried silver ink with the Monarchs? It could turn out nicely with the silver ink on the back...

I don't get it... Silver is too close to white, it won't be cool. And Monarchs is traditional cut, you can not see the edge color from it's back.  ???

In fact you may see the color from both sides if you paint the edges with a Sharpie (the colored edges might look ugly if the cards are white bordered).

Not as vintage as those but today I finished the vintage shelf on my deck display. I added two more Golden Nuggets and a 50s/60s Rider Back.

I don't have those vintage Bicycle decks either (actually I am used to call them antique decks), I like these '60-80s decks more. :P

All I can say is wow! It's so simple, but yet adds so much more effect to the decks!

This method also makes the edges more durable. When we paint the edges, a little ink gets into the paper, that prevents the edges from turning white quickly. :D

Are you happy with the way they turned out?

CBJ

This goes without saying  :D :D

I think it is important to notice the cutting angle of the edges, so that they can be painted more easily.

So now I'll be including the double backer but one blue and one red.
this way it works for all and opens up way more possibilities than having a rainbow colored Ace.

Thanks for the update. It is not the gaff card I want but it doesn't matter, because your specturm backs include normal red and blue, right? I have blank face cards with red or blue blacks, I will add them into your deck and still can perform the routine I want.  :P

Thanks guys, I had never known I could process black cards this way. I was bored and tried it tonight, though I was not brave enough to use colors other than black.

▼found an opened black deck

▼there were 5 black markers to choose

▼I chose this one finally, it doesn't have any bad smell like the Sharpie

▼after 20 minutes...

@Nathan, choose full refund for the shipping. The shipping fee was expensive and you don't know if there will be $1 items next time. ;)

You may ask jmrock if he wants to sell his Jumbo Index Red+Violet:

He hates casino decks, I don't know why he got the 2 decks.

What did I complain about? As a backer, I haven't seen the actual decks, but you already began talking about the 2nd decks.

Wait, what? If you haven't seen the deck yet, you need to look better. There's a picture on the kickstarter page that shows EVERY SINGLE FACE OF THE DECK. ::)

And why the hell is it wrong of him to be talking about a second deck? I fail to see your point entirely.

Sorry, I meant the decks haven't been produced and I haven't got the actual decks. Did I say they are wrong? I won't say they are wrong because they started talking about the 2nd decks. They may well do this, I just don't feel good.

Few days ago I just explained KickStarter to people on Chinese forums, at the same time I complained about something. When I explained the meanings of those numbers on KS pages (I used Tendril and Spectrum as examples), I told them the meney belong to the designers now. From a backer's position, "pledge" means "pre-order" practically instead of "invest". I had to explain this to them, otherwise I was afraid they would think "wow.. the amount of meney already exceeded the goal, so they will end the project right now or return some to us". I tried to let them know the designers might use the additional money to provide better services.

What did I complain about? As a backer, I haven't seen the actual decks, but you already began talking about the 2nd decks. I used a harsh term in Chinese to describe it (這些人食髓知味). I know, I know, I know it will be too late to discuss the 2nd deck after the 1st deck is released, it needs much time to design a new deck from scratch, but I don't feel good to see this phenomenon. Designers always emphasize how KS makes their dreams come true. Well, haven't your dreams come true? Why are you in such a hurry to start the 2nd decks? The first deck is a dream, the 2nd deck is business, in my opinion.

I don't know much, but I know TBC decks are much more beautiful than the Style deck.

Jamie puts a deck into a bottle to prove anything is possible, the Style deck shows me nothing is impossible if such an ugly deck may also be sold on the market.

In this case, I only bought 1$ decks, so I do not see why my brick of massas wouldn't be bubble-wrapped while my other decks should. Do you think I should message them telling them about this?

I would if I were you. In fact I take pics when opening all packages I receive.
Message them and see what they will say. Sometimes we don't really want to return the items or ask them to refund partial money, but we want justice. If they are wrong, at least they should apologize to you.

@Nathan, I guess the cards were not damaged. Sellers often use Massa's to protect other high price decks, and obviously this seller thought they (Massa's) did not deserve to be bubble wrapped  :P :P
