They are not the same. Please understand there were so many decks produced in that era, Friars Club is simply one of those decks. Don't be misled by those sellers' ad wording. Actually I noticed no seller said Friars Club decks are handled like Jerry's, they just said they were produced by USPC in 1970 like Jerry's (the same era and the same manufacturer). It's a very tricky wording.

Come one guys if you want to know the handling of Friars Club, why didn't you bid on this auction with me? I was the only one that placed a bid on it, I felt so lonely.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/150757799999

It is not the same friar club that we are talking about, isn't it?

It is not Friars Club, but it was made of the same stock as Friars Club.
They were generic-use stock and back design for many decks in that era, they were cheap stock in fact.

EDIT: I do not mean Friars Club decks are not worth collecting, but collectors should understand why they want the decks. Age, history, and rarity are all good reasons to collect the Friars Club decks.

My god digipunk! where you get so many wynn's? and the box? it looks awesome

I like Wynns and this is a part of all the Wynns I own... there are still Red and Violet Wynns, the wood case is not large enough. It is a wine case obviously (Sapporo Wine), I got it from auctions (I don't drink any wine).

Okay thanks for clarifying! People often talk of the Brown Wynns but the Black deck often does get much attention so it peaked my interest. That is a pretty sweet collection Digi, lots of Wynns!

My card collecting was not started early enough, I could not get these Wynns with beautiful prices, but fortunately still lower than their current market values. When you have Brown+Red+Violet with both Standard/Jumbo Indexes, you can not but consider the Black Wynn|Encode decks or the script (signature) versions.

I got many Blades and sold out all of them to my friends, but I won't do likewise to these Wynn decks  :P

:D   Apparently people do like these independently designed playing card projects, don't they? Vortex vs Tendril: Who will win!?

It is unfair to Vortex, I hadn't known how to pledge on KS projects until you taught me  ;) ;) ;)

i only buy bricks of decks that i REALLY like. that way i can use them as much and as hard as i want and know i have more.

So do I, if I like a deck, I buy bricks of them. If I only want to try a deck, I buy 1 or 2 and open them to use. I am not building a museum of playing cards, don't need to get all decks I see.

Friars Club decks were produced in the same era as Jerry's Nuggets, but it is ridiculous to say they're handled like Jerry's Nugget. If a seller says so, it's a business trick. Unfortunately most of collectors have never handled Jerry's Nuggets, they don't know whether it is true or not, even thought they get the Friars Club decks, they still don't know...

Friars Club decks are collectible for their age and history ONLY. Some people might know I had lots of these decks (now only 1 pair left), but I've never opened any of them because I know these decks are not good for handling (it is very easy to judge, there are many videos on YouTube).

Yeah, it looks really cool in the box.

About the rarity, since not many people know this deck, the price isnt that overhype. Its 29.95$ at ebay for buy it now. So the brown wynn is more rare.

Anyway the Brown is out of print, that is fact. If I could only choose one between them, I choose the Brown without doubt (not to mention taking into consideration the silly back of the Black). BIN $29.9 is acceptable, they were $30-40 in 2010.

nice wynn collection any way to tell the icon logo and signature logo by only looking at the box ?

Please refer to the 2nd pic: http://www.ebay.com/itm/270778839489
The logo and script (signature) versions can be easily identified from the back of the boxes.

Dang that does look good!  8) How rare is the black deck in comparison to the T11 Brown Wynns?

The blog author is a famous card/coin collector here, his pics have murdered the pockets of lots of newbies. Theoretically the Black should be rarer than the Brown at this moment. However, the Brown is OOP and the Black might be produced again and show up in their gift shops. So far as I know, there were 2 runs in 2009 (remember what happened in the year? the stickers on the Black decks have 2 different colors: blue & black), and there seemed to be the 3rd run sometime in 2011 (if I remember right and the information was correct). We don't know whether there will be other runs in the future.

I see...
What I got are the 3rd 4th and 5th.
Maybe that's enough for my collections.
Thanks guys.

It's enough, but you may still consider the #1 & #2, I like Jumbo Index too.

The one-way back of Wynn|Encore deck is absurd, BUT... it looks elegant if you don't open it.
Take a look → http://www.wretch.cc/blog/river1219/922175

They are made of normal Bee Stock, with SILLY ONE-WAY diamond backs  :'( :'(

Objectively speaking, you should try. Most of the playing cards in these 2 years have decent quality, especially custom decks. But if you want to find a deck with slightly different handling among these new decks, Blades should be the one in my opinion.

I think I liked his funky-looking wooden deck holders more.  But they looked insanely bulky.

So do I think. All items in his pics are insanely bulky except the playing cards :P

A part of my Wynns, you may see "Wynn|Encore" in the pic-3.

They are not fake, I will show you some pics later.
The Wynn|Encore Black Wynn are available at Wynn/Encore gift shops.

So in a way, you were doing your friends a favor by obtaining rare items for them that they might otherwise have missed.  Nice.

Thanks Don, actually they got the decks with lower price from me. There were real dealers on auctions here and dealers must make some profit when reselling items. I forget I bought 3 bircks or 5 bricks, the average cost (including international shipping) per deck was lower than the official price, not to mention those dealers' adjusted prices on auctions. After I received them, watched them, I thought I didn't really want these decks (and clips) but some friends did. I had a little regret and felt I shouldn't own them. Because of the relatively low price and the signatures, they were sold out very quickly. It was a special experience to me.

If someone is curious about how those clips look like, here they are:

They were not attractive to me, I am not a real fan ;)

Aaron, this is a very good question. Thank you for asking this question.

I said I pretended to be his super fan and got things I wanted. On the other hand, I said I don't have any Silver Blades now. I bought those decks (and clips) because I was bored.

There were not so many new decks during the same period last year. Some of my friends are real fans of him, they made me think those decks are terrific stuff. You know, I might be uninterested in something originally, but everyone was talking about it... I felt I had to get some because it was very interesting. I didn't really want those "great stuff", but it was like a game for me : grabbing something before others could. I had many Silver Blades and the 2 limited clips, but later I sold them to all my fellow collectors here with exactly the same price I paid. It's just a game for me after all.

421
You have to take your first step.  ::)

422
Oh. I thought Don said they wouldn't go for more than 1$ until at least a year ...

Actually I bought 2 sets last year. They were $20/pair and free shipping in US (I ordered mine and had them sent to my friend's place). They then changed the pricing strategy, the decks were around $15/pair and shipping in US was around $5. It looked like a business trick, the total amount of meney a buyer should pay was still the same. Besides, I remember they were limited to 5 sets a person. I could not but think it's too good to be true when first reading ItsMagicI..'s post.

I think this is a far nicer buy & they're still sealed in wax paper... http://www.ebay.com/itm/150759896578?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649#ht_500wt_1413 I also happen to know the seller... Real nice guy...

You should stay away from that vampire if he's your friend:

Wow. These are on sale for 99ยข each currently. Why are they on sale for so much here?

Currently? The closeout ended several day ago. $15-20/pair is their normal price on the market.
The rules of the game are simple, when the music stops suddenly, players have to race to sit down in one of the chairs. Obviously jmrock's friend had a seat.

After seeing this shirt that was made by English Laundry, I'm having second thoughts altogether about even purchasing this deck... http://www.ebay.com/itm/NWOT-ENGLISH-LAUNDRY-HAND-SEWN-EMBROIDERED-BLACK-DRESS-SHIRT-Sz-XL-GORGEOUS-/260956558678?pt=US_CSA_MC_Shirts&hash=item3cc2391556#ht_1462wt_1180  That is without question the most horrific shirt I've ever seen in my entire life... I mean it's truly awful... Hideous...  I thought it was a joke, but it's an actual shirt...

It's awesome, jmrock!! Pick the deck as well as the shirt. You are going to be the most shining one in the party.  ;)
