A Cellar of Fine Vintages / Re: Vintage Collection
« on: February 08, 2012, 04:55:11 PM »
The funny thing is that I feel the same way as Don. If I buy a deck, it is for 1 of 3 reasons:
either:
1) Opening it right away and using it
2) Reselling it once it is worth more
3) Keeping it sealed and opening it later on.
Hopefully, since I am not into collecting vintage decks, I can buy about 10 new decks for the price of a vintage one.

You see, if you look at it this way, you would be into collecting vintage decks too. As the year goes by, the value of these vintage decks increases, and they'll worth more. Maybe when you're not into it anymore, you'll resell and gain profit!

No. I always tell friends: "don't collect vintage decks, they are too dangerous."

Believe it or not, 2 years ago I thought the same as NathanCanadas until I got a Golden Nugget for curiosity. I can not control myself from then on. My dear friends, stay away from those vintage decks as far as possible. Once you start, you can not stop.

@sxjy0109: Leaf Back, Stag Back, and Lotus Back, will your next deck happen to be an Acorn Back?

@brown_baggs: Sorry. I can not sell these decks, nor can I get them with the same price. One year ago, when I got the 9 decks, I opened one to use (apparently you know which color I opened from the pic). However, 2 months ago, I sold the spare RED+BLUE to jmrock and the PINK to a collector in Brazil. So now I have only an opened RED and a full set that are reserved to myself.

Those Orignal Fake decks are awesome!! Such an expensive set. One day I'll own a set of them!  >:(
@brown_baggs, not expensive at all, really, or I would not buy so many. I can not get them with the same price any more, but... I swear they were not expensive when I got them from a Japanese friend. (sorry I can not say the price here for certain reasons...)

You guys should know the price of these decks is manipulated by the clothing sellers. They sell these decks for such a high price on auctions, but actually these decks are valueless between the clothing sellers...

I bought some directly from JAQK Cellars before they were noticed by people. Actually these decks are not good for handling, but the design of the boxes and cards is very special 2 years ago.

@NathanCanadas, why don't you use this link to negotiate with hazofhorsham? (guys you should know I am just kidding)

Hi Carlo, just left a message to you and hope you understand I don't want my name and address to be shown in the video when you open them.  ;)

Let's get another one in!

[pics of Bicycle Lotus Back]
haha... another beautiful deck. Does that 'H' mean 1926?

BTW, do you know jimmy? He had collected swaps of all 82 Bicycle backs.... ;)

I don't have any deck that can compare to yours, so here is another wave of saturated attack:

No one thinks it is an evil deck? ::)

They did more to boost American troop morale than scare the Viet Cong.  The stories about the VC being afraid of the Ace of Spades or the Lady Liberty in the center were myths.  So no, not evil.

I said that because I saw some pics on the net, the AoS was put into death body's mouth. I know it was a war and could be judged by normal concepts, but I can not but think of the images in those pics when talking of this deck. ???

There's a big reason why I could never really get into collecting vintage cards.  I would want to PLAY with them!  I wouldn't want to leave them sealed!  The only two vintage decks I have are Arrco-made cards with pattern-finished Streamline backs from the 1960's that I got from Alex.  And I PLAY with them!  I take care of them, sure, but I don't treat them like museum pieces.  It would be way too difficult for me to not open them and play with them - a sealed vintage deck in my hands would be ripe fruit on the vine!

Must open seal...  Must open seal...  Must open seal...
You can open any vintage deck you get. Why not? At least I opened GNs with different colors and some other tax stamp decks. Actually I maintain a blog to share experiences with my fellow collectors here, every time I opened a vintage deck I also took pics to show the full process (of how I killed a deck). I believe most vintage collectors buy modern decks too, there is no conflict between collecting vintage decks and using modern decks.  ;)

It seems reasonable after I read the origin of creation again:

The title of the auction was interesting too : Serpents :-[

This is very interesting!! I've never thought the back was a reprint >:( >:(

Playing Card Plethora / Re: dan and dave Fulton's china town review
« on: February 07, 2012, 05:38:46 PM »
It was pretty good. In addition to what others said, try articulating more, and here are some moves you should try to master before making reviews:
- Perfect hand to hand spread
- Dribble √
- Spring √
- Thumb cut
- Charlier cut
- Thumb/index fan √
- Ribbon spread √
- One-handed fan
√ = absolutely necessary
Essential skills for all reviewers except Lennart Green.

Thanks for your review, but the focus seemed to be locked on the table and most of time the cards were blurred. And...the way you fanned and shuffled the cards can not convince people that they are good... ;)

I don't have antique decks, but this is a "supersaturated attack":

o.O
Now that's a gold brick.

By the way, someone sniped a good deck today. Is it anyone in the forum?

You are right. The sniper is the person who posted most pics of his vintage decks here. :-X

It's a misdirection... I thought no one would notice the box :-\ :-\
These boxes came from Japan, they are thicker than the normal brick box and may contain 16 decks.

591
it is for me because i have all of the other 11 color except this one. that's why i'm looking for this deck.
It really makes sense if this is the last piece of the puzzle. ;)

592
@anep21, about $10 and there are many auctions selling this deck. It is for reference only.
(The site is down due to scheduled system maintenance. haha)

@digipunk
You've been trapped by the stupidly name decks produced by magic makers. The two links you provided where for the first edition (yellow deck) and second edition (reversed back). Both of these are magic makers colour decks. The deck in this thread is a standard rider back, white face, yellow back :)
Thank you, I got it now. White face + Yellow back!!! :-[ :-[

595
I entered this thread with curiosity 'cause it was bumped, but it's really embarrassing for me to say I don't know which deck you guys mean. I searched auctions and found two kinds of  yellow back riders:

EDIT: damn, they are the same decks... :-[ :-[

I received a package this morning (shown in another thread), and now I have a pair of Bicycle Playboy:

And tax stamp sealed Aristocrat 727 Back No.1 and No.3

Hadn't I sold several 727s to my fellow collectors here...

Hi xmetal, I am afraid you missed my email again, so I repeat the content of the mail here. One of my fellow collectors would pledge this deck with many friends and I joined them. So my clip may be sent independently when it is done. ;)

@VortexHead, We are waiting for your answer  ;) ;)

This morning I received the package in my 2nd pic. So these are the 6 decks:

There's no dating code (sorry I don't know how to describe the code) on AoS, how could we date this deck 30 years later? :P
