Playing Card Plethora / Re: Mustache Playing Cards
« on: March 16, 2014, 11:47:21 AM »
Great news! I can take this one off of my potential "successful failures" list!

Im not totally sure about that yet... I was contacted by the powers that be saying that the uncut sheets were never made.  So instead of getting uncut sheets I could get a refund(which was said to probably take a while) or choose 4 decks from a list.  So I chose the 4 decks and asked when it would ship, they said within the week or latest next week.... That was well over a month ago, lost the email so i can't confirm but probably closer to 2 months.

I decided to goto Vanda's website and inquire.  Still no response and that has been about 5 days.  Personally at this point I really don't give a shit.  I will never purchase anything with Vanda's name on it because he obviously can't get his shit together.  The cards if they ever show up will be delivered to my old house and who knows if I will ever see them.

I emailed him very professionally.  I will email him again before I move with my new address. I will probably not be so nice in the next one due to the lack of a response.

Okay so I am in the process of packing and almost ready to move.  I know that if I sold these separately I will get more!  I can use the extra cash to pay for fuel and tolls for my moving truck so here it is.

My final price offer! I will not take any lower offers.  Including shipping to the USA Priority Flat Rate Medium Box.  $265.00

PM me or call me on the phone number listed in the original post.

For the sake of aiding anyone performing a keyword search, this deck is better known as the Fulton's Chinatown: Game of Death Edition.

Thanks Don.  So I was pretty busy yesterday and just to give give everyone here my thought process on the pricing.  With the exception of the Chinatown reds, bicycle spectrums, and split spades lions,  every deck is worth a minimum of $25.  I have previously sold the magic castles and the tally ho's for A LOT more.  So I figured for the brick to average the price at $25 per deck.  The box even in bad shape is worth at least 5-10 bucks on eBay.  I previously sold just a box on eBay for 20 and it was in not much better shape.  And then there is the shipping which will cost me 15 bucks give or take a few because I pack my shipments very well.

I chose to only list this brick on The Discourse and offer a good batch of cards to collectors.  I think the pricing is extremely fair but just to be a sport the first person to call and make payment arrangements I will accept 300 including shipping.  Like I stated I am in the process of packing and moving.  I will be doing a lot of work in my garage and storage unit but will answer all phone calls and ship the same or next business day after payment.

4
Okay so here it is 1 mixed brick for sale.  You will probably not find another mixed brick like this ever again.  I included some excellent decks and I can't see a collector who wouldn't want any of these.  All decks are new and sealed and comments are noted next to item. My pricing is firm and includes shipping.  I am very busy and do not have the time to check PM's please read below for phone contact information.

$325.00

2 - Tax Stamped Aristocrat Pinochle Cards - Both Red
2 - Vintage Tally Ho's (Stamp Style Seal) - Red Fan Back and Blue Circle Back - (Cello is a bit torn a bit but still attached, I have opened decks from the same batch and the cards are perfect.)
2 - Magic Castle USPCC - Red and Blue Set
1 - Split Spades Lions - Red 1st Editions
1 - Tally Ho Split Spades - Red
1 - Bicycle Spectrum - First Run Gold Seal
1 - Ace Fultons Midnight Fuel - Numbered
1 - Fultons Chinatown Red
1 - Fultons Chinatown Yellow

Thats 12 Decks total.  They will be placed in the Bee Squeezers Box that is pictured.  The box is not in the best of shape but hey its something to put them.  As I normally do for all purchases I will toss a random bonus deck or two into the package before shipment.

I will only be shipping within the US.  It will be shipped in a USPS Priority Flat Rate Medium Box.  It will require a signature to ensure safe delivery and that it does not get left in any bad weather.

I look forward to a hassle free transaction and due to my schedule I would prefer to be contacted by phone.  (347) 762-5248 (this is a google voice number I do not post my real number on the internet publicly for obvious reasons).  All transactions will be documented through PM along with tracking numbers to abide by board rules.  Thank you and look forward to speaking to you soon.

Why are so many cat themed decks getting created on kickstarter.  I first thought it was a smart idea because people who are fanatical about cats buy all sorts of unnecessary cat related material.  Now I think its getting a little stupid.

Please check original Post for link to ebay ..  All items now on ebay with prices adjusted.  The pricing is firm, the shipping is free!

If you send me a message on eBay after making a purchase tell me you are from The Discourse and I will make sure to add something extra.

In addition to whats on ebay if you are looking for Stud Playing Cards.  I have 1/2 Gross available. Please contact me through the Discourse if you have any questions regarding them.

7
Anyway to get a complete list, or link to eBay sales, so we know what you have?

I will try to work on getting something together tomorrow.

8
Hi, do you have an unbranded reserve black note?

Sorry those are the only ones I don't have available from that project.

9
Hey guys.  Im not getting out of the game completely but I will be moving soon.  Im looking to put a few dollars together to subsidize the moving costs. I have some items listed on ebay.  I have updated the pricing to reflect lower pricing. I decided against selling through the discourse privately for single items.  Just too much going on, trying to sell the same thing in two places is a pain in the ass.

If you are looking to buy anything in bulk or perhaps purchase everything I have on ebay all at once please call me and we can work out a deal. (347) 762-5248

Magical Cardistry Bonanza / Re: Wizard Wars - Reality TV Show
« on: February 08, 2014, 12:44:17 PM »
The show itself needs some work.  So does the magic in my opinion.  Not something Id be looking to watch again.  Im sure the exposure will be minimal and the magic is not all that impressive anyway.

How can you tell?  The show doesn't premiere until next month!  Am I missing something?

I think his comment is based on the made in my living room feel that the shop-around pilot has.

Yeah the made in my living room feel is terrible.  Shop-around pilot or shoestring budget at least find a friend with a nicer place. The reality is that reality TV is mostly all staged or cut to perfection in order to be entertaining.  I have friends who stared in reality TV show about single girls who can't find the right guy.  Meanwhile they were mostly engaged or had boyfriends in real life.  So with that yes the show should be cut to limit exposure of methods and more effort should be put into making the show entertaining.  Also some better items should be chosen to give more opportunity to make the tricks more entertaining.  The way the show was shot I feel that even if the magicians on there had real talent it was made to look very amateur and cheesy.

Playing Card Plethora / Re: Most Expensive Deck Opened
« on: January 26, 2014, 04:54:29 PM »
My family members had large amounts of cards in storage for years so I've been using cards from this stash since I was a kid.  I can't tell you how many of these decks I just destroyed when I was younger! Never thought they would be anything special. I refuse to just look at the cards I got them for a reason so I'm gonna use them but I try to rotate open decks depending on mood and they last a long time. I would probably make collectors cry if I listed everything but here are a few...Half a brick or so of Tax Stamped Bees and 2 Tally Ho's, Golden Nuggets x4, Dozen or so of 1960's and 70's Bees and Tally Hos. Ive opened 1 of pretty much every deck I've owned.  1 to rock and 1 to stock has always been my motto.  Well maybe more then just one to stock if its something i think I will want to use more.

Jackson Robinson has an opened deck of my Golden Nuggets and Don has a good example of some of my everyday cards Tally Ho Circle Backs early 60's and 70's.  I started conserving them a few years back when the great playing card boom hit.

You promised not to laugh....here you go.

How cute. It's Dumbo's girlfriend! Sorry I did laugh a little.

This deck has a lot of potential from a business prospective.  Cat fanatics you know crazy cat ladies that sit home and shop on QVC buy lots of random shit.  They are commonly hoarders also.  Id say an aggressive campaign with a youtube video of some wacked out cat stuff and you will up your numbers a bunch.

15

took some digging but I was able to find a AD52 Wireless deck.

Very nice!  It's how old?

The picture says 1920.

Beehive comes before poop on both, so I think it's all good. Now back to the cards. Pretty sweet. Do we know who the artist is?

Not that it matters, but just because it comes first does not mean that it is more or less correct.  Its about context and how it is used.  Same goes for a lot of english words.  I originally thought it meant stomach.  After looking further into the etymology I thought Alveus would be more suitable for the lack of poop, and also learning that it meant gameboard which also fits the context of playing cards.

But as for the cards they look sweet as stated before.  Who ever the artist is congrats!

1st off, I like the design very much, I like the intricacy.

Second, all the hoopla over the name, it can be adjusted if needed, but please see below....

Okay.. Yes because all the latin you know is from a website. This is what is on a more accurate dictionary and is also what is in the latin to english dictionary on my bookshelf.

I made one comment don't be a drama queen. No hoopla just being honest.  When I heard the word alvus I remembered a different meaning.  It all depends on the context used but I'm sure you wouldn't know that because you only know latin from what you look up online.  So if an online definition is what you look for here it is...

---------------------

alvus, alvi
#1
noun
declension: 2nd declension
gender: common
Definitions:
beehive
belly/paunch/stomach
bowel
bowel movement
cavity
hull (ship)
womb

-------------------------------

alveus, alvei
#2
noun
declension: 2nd declension
gender: masculine
Definitions:
beehive
canoe
cavity, hollow
gameboard
trough, bowl, tray
tub

Alvus - Latin for Beehive

I don't know if you did the full research on the word Alvus.  Maybe you would like to change it to Alveus.  Im sure there are not a lot of latin speakers here.  God only knows why I took it in High School for 3 years.  :o  But anyways Alveus would not be able to be taken out of context for something like a poop.

I like the looks of the deck pretty sweet from what I see just figured I would let you know.

Deck Reviews! / Re: Battle 67: Erdnaseum vs Erdnase 216

You need to get around more, then!  I've seen FAR, FAR worse!

I said "in my collection" of course I've seen worse but I didn't buy them.  As for the Erdnaseum's well I got them as a mystery deck otherwise I would have never bought them.

216's handle amazing and look badass.  I find the Erdnaseum's to be an eyesore hands down probably the ugliest deck in my collection.

Don't be ridiculous - of course a single deck isn't going to survive that many shuffles.

Maybe KEM cards could?

Thank you for the kind words. Because they are so different than any other United States Playing Card Company product, I was nervous that everyone would be scared to try something new. However, like you, most everyone who to took a chance with these decks were pleasantly surprised.

The 605s are great cards, and only get better the more you use them. Glad to hear you're getting lots of mileage out of them.

I wish the box lasted as long as the deck, too!

BTW, do you know that you can wash your 605s if they get dirty?

Well the big thing is breaking them in properly.  I know you have detailed information and I used your methods mixed with a little of mine and they turned out pretty good.  Every once in a while I put them in the freezer or the fridge. I rarely keep them in a box.  I shower with them and let the moisture get to them.  Basically I do everything I would never do with any other deck of cards unless I intended to trash them.

But to anyone who uses them I would recommended them checking out your site for the info.  I know that they can be washed but I've yet to feel it needs it.  They handle just how I want them to!

You should make a commercial like this but place it at a children's magic show with an angry child off their medication goes berserk and smacks the cards out of your hand....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ybRtvem6GAM

A Cellar of Fine Vintages / Re: 10¢ Alabama Tax Stamp on Playing Cards
« on: January 05, 2014, 05:41:49 PM »
From the looks of this eBay listing I'd say they are current.  I actually found mine in New Jersey hanging on the shelf of CVS.  I can only assume someone bought them in Alabama and returned them in NJ.  Probably sometime around early 2000's.

I can't tell you the age of mine only because they are sealed.  I am not too sure if they are still doing it.  I am curious as well this is something I was thinking about posting a while back.  Here are a couple pictures.

If so with all the appreciation for vintage cards I'm surprised nobody has brought that back with some of the new decks....

My 605s have the vintage tuck flap you speak of (both editions).

#VintageAppreciation

Wow I did forget about that Lee.  I personally love your cards.  After getting a mixed brick from you I opened one green deck.  I also gave one to a friend of mine.  I really appreciated the long tuck flap.  I use the living shit out of your cards.  But the box sadly didn't last as long.  I still have yet had to open another deck and its been about a year.  I highly recommend your cards to people.  I even tell them to buy a brick knowing that it will last them the rest of their lives.

I use it as my practice deck almost every day, I leave it in the bathroom while I shower unboxed,  I throw them loose on the back seat of my car,  Ive done multiple card to mouths (thats why theres only 48 + jokers left), drop them on all sorts of crappy conditions,  took them on two cruise ships (and for those who don't know playing cards turn to mush of cruseships in a matter of minutes) bottom line is.. I just can't kill your cards!

Right on with the tuck flap!  And your card box quality is great, I just wish it lasted as long as the cards!
