Playing Card Plethora / Re: Deco, by Encarded
« on: August 22, 2013, 09:42:25 PM »
I'm sorry to hear that the current inventory of decks have been spoiled. Factory seconds?

Also, this is why Encarded is one of my favorite card companies: They value quality over everything else.

I'm a bit late to the party here, but I preordered on Kickstarter in July.

Looking great! :)

While I like both decks, I just find the design of the Aurum a lot more appealing. The deck is more custom and colors are great. Especially since they recently recolored the Artisans, I don't like the new, more pale inks on the recolor. Can't wait for Encarded to ship out the new Decos.

A shoutout to Lyle Borders from Theory11 for a great support team, replaced my deck at no charge (not even shipping).

Ok I'm going off topic now, so I'll stop it here.

Really? I thought this was originally a Scarlet Rounders thread, and then it turned into dealers. Oh well.

(A1) Ellusionist White Arcane

[pic here, I'm at the library lol]
reviewed July 2013

Current Price: $6.99 from Ellusionist.com
Additional Cards: Ellusionist Ad Card, Double Backer, 2 Jokers (3 Hearts reveal)
Finish: Performance Coating
Other Editions: Gold Arcane, Black Arcane

Durability: (4.5/5) - Very flexible and easy to adjust, used rigorously but yet works well

Handling: (9.5/10) - Easily one of my best decks to handle. They need to be broken in a little, but works very well afterward.
Shuffling: Faros and riffles smoothly, works very well
Spreads: Smooth and excellent spreading, pairs well with back design
Cuts: Cuts smoothly and easily, fake cuts well. Separates without hassle
Fans: Easily one of my best fanning decks, smooth fans that almost never clump
Springs/Dribbles: Flexible for corner springs, bend easily without wear, smooth springing

Design: (9/10) - Ellusionist clearly put a lot of effort into making the design of this deck. They are excellent when used in situations where it could scare your audience.
Packaging: Box design is very nice and it links to the back design, which I found nice
Additional cards: Ad cards are standard 2011 Ellusionist ad cards, Jokers are very nice and spooky, has 3 Hearts reveal.
Back design: Intricate back design features scrolls and hieroglyphs and symbols. Looks great in spreads and fans.
Ace of Spades: A "pirate ship" with a scroll as a sail, same on the cover. A nice design.
Face cards: The border with the royal inside fades out with the pips. Smoke and ink are splattered around the royals, creating a spooky feel. Royals emphasize the colors of gray and black. It fades inward and their sashes are replaced with scrolls with similar hieroglyphs as the ones in the back and package.

Magic: (5/5) - The Arcanes have a very nice design and intricate design that looks spooky, and this can add to suspense in the audience when performing. They handle smoothly, making them ideal for quickly handling them for magicians. Looks very nice when performing as well.

Gaming: (4/5) - When playing games, the Arcanes can bend easily in games that require grabbing cards quickly or placing them down fast. They do not wear as easily as most decks, but they can bend from playing games.

Perks: The pips on the cards fade at the corners, creaty a ghostly feel.
Summary: (9/10) - The Arcanes are spooky and have a very intricate design to them. It is evident that Ellusionist put a lot of effort into making it. This deck's performance finish is ideal for magic, and they handle nicely. If you wish to sort of create a scary or ghostly effect, you should definitely pick one up.

Well I was originally going to purchase a Green Artifice Deck, but the company messed up and mailed me a Purple Artifice. I'm not going to return them anytime soon, I quite like them actually.

I just wished Black Borders didn't chip.

Pics coming soon.

The Erdnase Green dealers are the unlimited Madison Dealers.

The Scarlet Dealers can only be obtained by purchasing a brick of Erdnase Dealers (12). Yesterday, the Black Club had early access to the Dealers, and half are gone. Ellusionist's Daniel Madison is offering 405 decks at this point, having produced 2,500.

The rest can be only obtained through upcoming promotions.

Don, I recently spent $50 with a $10 discount on 7 decks of cards: the Arcane, Artisan, Ghost, Monarchs, Rounders, Sultan Republic, and Guardians as a deck that I can use without worrying that I accidentally threw it away because its cheap.

However, the whole time I was requesting help and advice my eyes were set on one deck I particularly liked: the Artifice. Coincidentally however, my favorite colors were Black, White, Blue, Purple, and Green, which just happen to be the color schemes offered with the Artifice. I'm down to the Tundra, Blue V2 and Green V2 as I have eliminated the ones with black borders because they chip. I don't know what to pick ATM ._.

First, I'll start by mentioning that any deck which costs (before shipping costs) as much as six packs of Bicycles from a big-box retailer ISN'T CHEAP by any stretch of the imagination.  (A brick of Rider Backs has been reported as cheap as about $14 by one of the members here.)  "Relatively cheap" when compared to other custom decks would be a better term, but they are not cheap.  I wouldn't be crying over the loss of such a deck, but I wouldn't be happy about it either.  Of all the ones you listed, Guardians are probably the cheapest - I pay locally about $4+ at a local pharmacy chain store for a pack of Rider Backs, so the Guardians are only a buck more.  (I actually go to a local 24-hour fruit-and-vegetable shop near me for Tally Ho decks at $3 a pop!)

To me, the Tundra is a gimmick - a combination of the unique aspect of the Bicycle Ghost deck slapped onto the Artifice template.  But to a new collector like you, it's probably a fresh new idea.  If you wanted just one Artifice deck, that would work fine, as would any of the three you're considering.

But if you wanted to actually use these cards for something other than magic or cardistry, you're better off with the blue and green decks.  They're meant to be a "poker pair".  The only advantage to getting an Artifice Tundra to match up with one of the two colored decks would be if you wanted to produce a stunning color change, showing a radically different card, back and (if you choose a red card for the trick) front.

I actually got the Bicycle Guardians with the shipping for <$5. I'm using them as poker decks because I don't want my friends to mess with my Arcanes or Sultans. I might also use the Rounders by Madison as a poker deck.

I like the style of Tundra because its back design gives me the option to have a border but no border at the same time, and its Ace of Spades is nice. However, I didn't like the pips on the Tundra and the lack of color on the face cards. So I'm not sure which deck I want to pick. ._.

With friends: Either use cool ass decks that make them shit their pants or use something cheap but good like Rider Backs (not the "Standards" they sell in stores, though)

I would agree. Or maybe something in the middle?

A deck that's good for cardistry, magic, and gaming that will last for 2 years? That's a harsh requirement..

I recommend bicycle masters edition. I've been buying one deck once a year for 4 years so I can vouch for them. I don't know how the Erlanger decks handle as I've never came across any. The art is only basic though. I think all masters are all Ohio made still? Not sure, last one I got at April was Ohio but I got the deck from a local magic shop.

Otherwise get monarchs or artisans cause they handle and look good

Are the Shadow Masters worth vouching for? Also between the Monarchs and Artisans, which do you prefer and in which color schemes?
I also hear you like the Arcanes. How do they compare with the Artifice?

I don't think they sell UV500s anymore, let alone on Amazon.

I think I might use some cheaper decks when playing with friends, such as Guardians or Titaniums.

However, which decks would you recommend in terms of personal preference?

Infinity is a must have. Gorgeous art work and deck.

As for standard decks, grab some Tally's.

Nothing beats Ohio-made cards, though, if you can find them. Why only Amazon?

I agree about the Infinity being a nice deck. I am only ordering through Amazon because I have a $5 gift card for amazon and I kind of want to use it :P

You're expecting one deck to last you two years? Maybe if you live in the right climate and the buddies you're playing poker with treat them like newborn babies.

I do live in a good climate, but I won't be playing poker every day, mainly just practicing cardistry. Maybe once a week, twice?

I use my decks to they are totally ruined and then continue. I dont get rid of a deck till I lose it. Which I never know how that happens. Honestly I say just get standard bikes. They are cheap and good. Other then that I like the white vision deck. I am unsure if you can find it on amazon but its great.

Yeah they aren't on Amazon, but damn they do look nice.

For flourishing and cardistry and magic, standard tally-hos are great. For some added pizzazz and elegance the white ghosts are great, and for the hint of fully customised intrigue, the artifice decks will do justice.

Thanks for the input. Which do you prefer between the Ghosts and the Artifice decks?

This is my first post as recently I have become very interested in the art of cards. However, I do not know where to begin as there are very few comparisons for cards but many different products

My budget is <$15 (per deck), so I won't be purchasing any promotional, rare, or uncut decks. I might make multiple purchases (2-3), however. I am ordering from Amazon, so I am only choosing from Ellusionist or Theory11 (I cannot find many other companies on Amazon).

I am looking for a deck of cards that is good for cardistry movements (fanning, shuffling, cuts, springs and dribbles, etc.) but can also execute magic tricks well. I intend for them to at least last 2 years with use about 3-4 times per week, usually more. However, I also want mo be able to handle playing card games with others, and I don't want playing with them wear them down too much. Nicer designs would be appreciated, but not necessary.

Any advice, suggestions, recommendations or places to find more info would be nice. Thanks in advance for any help given, as well as the time and effort put into making a decision!
