By the way, Don, please tell me the different from Brad Fulton and Ace Fulton? Are they anyhow related?            Family members perhaps?

Ace Fulton is a FICTIONAL CHARACTER.  He never lived except in the imagination of the D&D Printing Co.

I thought there was a blog post mentioning that Ace was Brad's granduncle?

I recall Ellusionist mentioning that their UV500 decks were essentially printed on Bee Casino Grade stock, just that the paper stock had UV capabilities added to it, so I don't see why I can't use it as one of the benchmark for comparison.

I did what you suggested Don. I opened a fresh pack of CARC Black Acorn deck in Cambric finish. It is still 3 cards thicker than the Tendril deck.

Remember, my main question here was why the Tendril deck was so much softer and thinner than known Casino Grade stock. If it was just a difference in 1 card, I wouldn't have cared one bit, but 3 cards?

I want to make it clear that I am perfectly happy with the handling and feel of the deck. Its just something in me that clicked when my eyes read "bee casino quality" while my hands and comparisons say otherwise.

It was recently brought to light that there is "bee stock" and "bee casino stock". Could there have been some miscommunication somewhere?

Firstly, I'd like to congratulate Paul on this deck. The first time I saw the back design on kickstarter I know it was going to be a fantastic looking deck. Having the actual deck in my hands now, I can be sure this is one of the top decks, design wise, produced this year so far. Kudos to you on the fantastic design and theme.

Now on to my gripe. What happened to bee casino quality stock? I remember reading on your kickstarter page that this deck would be on bee casino quality. However, the decks are a little soft. Granted, the amount of ink plays a part in the stiffness of a deck, but when I stack the tendril deck side by side with a shadow masters deck from Ohio, the shadow masters deck is 3 cards thicker. You may argue its an Ohio deck, but when I stack the tendril deck alongside a CARC green acorn v2 deck made in kentucky, the CARC deck is also 3 cards thicker.

I would appreciate some clarification on this matter. Thanks!

My guess would be the same back design as the Series A but with metallic blue and silver inks.

Durability covers a lot of aspects, eg fanning, springs, cuts.

For me, the overall durability of the deck is defined by its ability to hold its shape after prolonged heavy usage.

The box art looks Karnival Assassins-ish, but the back design is definitely 10x better than the assassins.

« on: May 16, 2012, 11:15:51 PM »
I think you wouldn't go wrong with any of the erdnase smith or acorn backs that CARC has put out. They have a thick durable stock and handle really well. I think the black acorns are well received because its the first deck from the series to have the magic finish.

However, I have the v2 green acorns and they handle as excellently as the black ones do. Does anyone share the same sentiments?

Personally the deck looks nice to me, and I'm glad that there's now some clarity to the history of the cards.

I wonder how did the decks end up in Asia?

Did USPCC comment on why the crappy packages?

Gared mentioned that he sold off the bulk remaining of his stash to Murphy's Magic Supplies, which is a magic wholesale company in the USA that sells only to retailers. I suppose the major resellers in our region got hold of the decks from MMS.

@NathanCanadas, do you ever read what others post or are you just too eager to comment on what other people say? hawjinjian specifically mentioned "my advice is if you want create a all white or black deck", meaning his advice to HM was to create an all white OR all black deck.

of course, @hawjinjian, you could help with typing in proper English to the best of your ability instead of loosing the caps and having more than one fullstops (periods) after each sentence.

Back on topic, my only gripe with this deck is the design of the face cards. The white border cuts the corner pips in a way that is really annoying and this is definitely going to put off a lot of backers who want to use the deck in their performances or magic routines. HM, I suggest you guys keep the pips out of the white borders; borders are called borders for a reason! Trust me, it is definitely not "Easy-To-Read", whether "up-close and from far away".

Thanks for the first post Don Boyer! I recently started getting interested in doing trades and I think this is going to come in handy instead of us having to search the entire thread for a specific feedback.

Those Americana jokers are making me drool. Russel, I think you hit the bullseye with the colour and design of the jokers, it matches with the theme of the deck fantastically!

I'm a sucker for simple elegant designs, and this deck is all about that. Plus in PURPLE, which isn't something you see often. The starting price point is a little high though and with new decks coming out every week I'll probably wait till their goal has been reached before pledging for a couple.

International backers will be happy to know that shipping is only $5-$7 at most!

P.S I'm curious as to why only the clubs have been customised...

Welcome my fellow brethren! There is always a place for new playing card collectors. I'm sure you will be able to find all the latest information (worth mentioning) on playing cards over here. Remember to use the search function if you need info on older decks!

I hope you enjoy your time here as much as I have enjoyed mine so far!

And I assume these clip joints with the "special" deck seal have had their cellophane removed since they needed to get the sticker on. More like 'Fulton's private reserve of deck seals', don't you think?

I doubt it would be a contest if they mentioned "you might just be able to get your hands on one... or 1,000". I think they are really going to put them up on sale. If that happens, the servers are going to have to brave a storm on Tuesday night, and the E team will be pelted with angry feedback from those who dished out big bucks to get the deck.

Or, it could be a first-come-first-serve giveaway contest. That doesn't go against what they said about what they were going to do with these decks..

Real nice find there jmrock. I haven't seen those decks ever before, i've only seen the grand opening ones. Would you be kind enough to refer some of the sellers whom you are getting these decks from to me? I'm hoping to acquire more unique decks purely for my collection, provided they are at a reasonable price. Thanks!

I think Adam from CCC had to resend him 72 decks of Revision 1 playing cards, and still he claims he didn't receive any cards. I knew something was amiss and thanks to sinsandman for bringing this to light.

Quote from: awretch

and I just realized when I held the deck for the first time, that the backs are actually more unique instead of just being an inverted black-white color difference.

That's what's so great about this set of cards. The two decks share a basic design but have unique features and shading, unlike other black and white decks that are just plainly inverted.

I've handled the prestige decks and find them decent enough for basic cardistry. Too bad, I'd still stick to the good old paper stock for manipulation. The backs are kind of cool though!

Oh my, I haven't heard news of this deck since decknique. And back then it was quite highly sought after with a hefty price tag.

Which the mystery surrounding this deck, I need more pictures of the cards in action before I can decide whether "they are nothing else like I've ever seen". I've heard that sentence countless of times and I usually just feel "meh".

Well the only reason I can think of why the prices skyrocketed is that they figured their decks are going to be highly anticipated and they decided to "cash in". And no, I'm not going to take design costs as an excuse.
