390$ starting point. People are crazy =)))))

I feel like because he doesn't specify it's a pre-order, you could screw him over and teach the seller a lesson about trying to create inflated prices.

Card Player, I was also thinking earlier that someone may have bought a VERY large quantity for resale. I almost never miss out on cards because I'm right there the second that they are released. I truly wonder if he just sold all 1,000, or if he's toying with several releases that will total the claimed 1,000 to sell on the website?

1000 sold out in around 3-5 minutes does seem a bit odd, especially at the asking price. Will be very interested to see the resale price on eBay soon  :karrit:

Those things sold out in no time. I was on the wrong red gatorback page and found the actual store item but by that time they had sold out. Picked up the signed black and red set though  :)

I could see this working well for a close up magician. You could even levitate them afterwards. Not for me though.

You ever see a magician who's so high-energy and funny in his or her routine that they seem practically manic, like a stand-up comic after a few too many coffees?  That's the kind of magician this is best suited for - or simply if you want to inject a little more adrenaline into your routine kick-off.

I might get it for performing at the hospital.  I usually start off with a trick that seems corny but surprises the hell out of people at the prestige.  It grabs people by the shock of having their low expectations blown out of the water - but maybe something like this would be more of a kick as an opener.

I absolutely think this trick would be ideal for what you do. The one thing that really shocks people is they often expect a magician to go by the old adage to pull something from somewhere, whether it be a rabbit from a hat, cloth from your arm, cards from thin air, but this just takes that aspect and tips it on its head. It's sudden, it's flashy, it's direct, and it's great.

The back color is not what I was expecting from the tuck. I'm not as excited as I used to be. It's not that I don't like brown back decks. I do, it's just not what I was expecting at all. Maybe it will grow on me over the next week, if I quit looking at the tuck... Probably not.

My thoughts exactly. I don't mind browns as they tend to grow on me a fair bit, but the tuck reminds me too much of the monarchs. You see this luxurious looking gold, and get some pale yellow and white lines instead  :(

7
Picked up a boxed set and the $40 set too :) I was a bit taken back by the production run being fairly limited, but at the same time I can appreciate that a lot of work must have gone into these. Probably explains why they were pumping out DM decks so much; their creative team were all busy making these  ;D

Ok just finished my chat with Zach. He was very mature about everything and apologised about it all. According to his shipping records, he had indeed sent a package, but unfortunately on my end nothing had turned up. It's only the second time something like this has happened to me after receiving hundreds of packages  :)

The very first time I had a no-show package, the seller openly refused to resolve the issue until I took paypal action against him.

Zach is sending out another package to me which I should receive soon, and everything should be fine now. It was honestly a very humbling exchange of emails and I'm just glad that it's over now  :D

Hey guys,

Was trying to repair my old hovercard gimmick but it doesn't work properly now - it's lost tension so it just floats downwards and then sags a bit. I was trying to find some more gimmicks for standard bicycle decks (I have one for a ghost deck which is still fine at the moment). Looked all around the web and can only find Jumbo versions.

If you can only find it locally, I'd be willing to pay you to buy a couple and ship them off  8)

Cheers all  :D

QUICK UPDATE: Found some from taiwan sellers on eBay, but I have no control over the colours. They're $9 each so maybe if I buy 4 I can get an even split between red and blue backs  :D Still would like to see if anyone knows of any other alternatives.

5th September - all parcels shipped out

One last question... What else did you order with your decks?

Just the decks itself no extras  :) , he's recently been shipping out card clips too.

Try private messaging him through Instagram. Any avenue right? Couldn't hurt...

Edit:  Better idea, lets ALL private message him through a single avenue and see if we can elicit a response...

Sent off some instagram ones too now, thanks for the suggestion. So I've done 2 instagrams, 2 new tweets, and a youtube DM today, hoping for the best  ;D

Also just a little timeline for everyone:

2014:
20th January - Amazon Payment to Fontaine Finesses was successful
23rd March - Pledge Confirmation via Backerkit survey - postage address and pledge type confirmed
25th May - Production of cards finished.
12th June - 350 of around 1100 orders shipped
5th September - all parcels shipped out

Since the 9th of October I've attempted to get into contact with Zach via Twitter, Youtube, email, Amazon Payments and now, Instagram.

Still remaining optimistic.

Just to further add: I get that the logistical operation of shipping out over 1000 parcels would have been quite the nightmare, and it's very likely that it was forgotten amongst it all. I'm just hoping that Zach can be mature enough to respond to my concerns and a resolution can be sorted  :)

He still works at Theory11, right?  That's one way to reach him...

I don't understand why you waited so long to inquire? 2-3 months ago? It's more like 5-6 months ago these were shipped! The decks and his profit are most likely long gone by now. How long do you expect the creator to hold on to their profit before someone says, hey wait a second, I never got mine? It sounds like your out of luck and Zach does not want to deal with this mess.

Um, it's Zach's mess!  He's responsible for making sure his backers get their stuff.  Nearly every deck company (and any smart crowdfunding project creator) will hold back a number of cards, not just for his personal use but to fix problems like this.  If he was out of them in a year or two after, I might understand, but that's not the case.  Even if he was out of decks, he could refund the money.  He's legally obligated to do so, used profits or not - within whatever the applicable statute of limitations would be.

Zach was let go by theory11.

Sarcasm... I guess we expect a project creator to hold on to stuff for years, just in case. They can't sell retail for years either, in case they end up selling the rest of their decks because someone waited 5 months to inquire.  I don't know if he's even an official business entity, is he? I suppose this is the nature of the deck funding beast?

I believe you missed my original response to your original query. I didn't wait 5 months to enquire, I waited a reasonable amount of time from when the last of his orders were said to be shipping, to a reasonable international shipping time. On the 5th of September he was still shipping out the last of his fontaine orders, I'm also an international buyer so generally people will tell you to wait a month or two. I've been trying to contact him since early October as well but each has fallen on deaf ears.

To further elaborate, he has a legally binding obligation to fulfil his end of the contract, and if he can't then a refund is required. I'm not asking for my brick that I ordered if he's indeed out of stock, but if this is the case then a refund would be the right resolution.

Imagine you ordered a car from a manufacturer, and the car would be manufactured, and ready for release in a few months time. You've given your payment in full, and now you play the waiting game. You enquire a few weeks after the release date, and the manufacturer tells you to wait a few more weeks as it is being imported from Germany. Now a few weeks grows into a few months, and the manufacturer won't respond to your messages. You manage to walk into a dealership and confront a receptionist about this, who asks you, "did you really expect us to hold onto stock for this long, sorry we're all out."

Zach is also selling them on his website.

Try his Twitter handle https://mobile.twitter.com/zachmonky  depending on how his account is set up you might be able to DM.

Tried that several times already unfortunately. I just wish you could DM without having a mutual follow.

Don't believe he works at T11 anymore :/ And yes what you say is correct. Even if he has run out of his cards, he is still legally obligated to fulfil his end of the contract and if not a refund would be met with welcome arms. I've attempted to get amazon payments to contact him but they keep telling me the same bad news over and over again.

Ask around at T11 anyway.  They might be able to help you.  Meanwhile, I tried to reach him on his webpage - we'll see if he drops by here to explain the situation.

Thanks Don! I tried contacting him on his website too so hopefully we get a reply :) I can provide any information like transaction ID's from amazon payments if if he reaches out to you first. Best be optimistic about everything  :karrit:

Hey guys, long time no see  :D

Wasn't too sure where to put this thread but here goes. I need some assistance in getting into contact with Zach Mueller and getting an actual response. I've tried his twitter, and I've tried contacting him via his website. Long story short, I haven't received my pledge from his kickstarter campaign. I've been billed for the full amount for a brick of his blue fontaines, and am yet to receive them since shipping out 2/3 months ago.

Amazon payments have been most unhelpful in this matter, I've even tried to get refunded however, they are stating that anything over 60 days of payment cannot be done. I find this very unfair as payment was taken all the way back in January this year. Production and shipping took over 6-7 months to carry out, which I completely understand. Yes I have done my survey  :)

I would have done a credit card chargeback by now, however my financial institution does not do this for Visa Debit cards  :(

Hopefully someone here is able to get directly into contact with him. I'm not here to belittle, or rubbish the guy. The sheer logistics of what he was carrying out would have been an immense task. I see this as an oversight, and my order simply has been missed amongst all of the others.

Cheers  :D

Could be a means for giving buyers a reason to buy from them. While I don't quite like it, it could be a nice little gesture or incentive - instead of regular bikes, you can have art of play bikes. Then again it could provide artificial value to the collectors market which would be a bit of a bummer.

Hustlers are available now for black club. They are being branded as casino decks of the 50's and 60's. The branding Is even less imaginative then the design.

The last of the Madison logo series. WTF, no one said they had to stop making Madison logo cards? Just not so many so soon. We like the Madison brand. What a disaster! Way to ruin a good thing.

Madison Logo. I'm sure there'll be more Madison related decks coming about. Next week DM will instagram a 1mm away photo of a card with some edgy Jayden Smith quote like, "How can we be close, if we aren't even - Madison says".

The Artifice series may have had its share of over-running the course of its life, but the DM line has done this in roughly 12 months. Unfortunately it just has no more appeal, and I'll be comfortably leaving these alone.

With the Artifice line, it was a single basic design offered in a handful of colors, with the "Tundra" deck (a.k.a. Artifice Ghost) being the biggest departure from the basic formula.  One deck line, a handful of colors, period.  Not terribly sexy after all this time, but at least you know what you're getting when you buy an Artifice deck.

With the Madison decks, including the one he created with Theory11, it's been a disjointed series, one after the other, with a string of names that at this point just blend right into each other - Dealers, Hustlers, Players, Rounders, Butchers, Bakers, Candlestick Makers, Tinkers, Tailors, etc., ad nauseum, and with inadequate differences between them to generate enough interest at this stage of the game.  The only name that actually stands out now is Limited, and that's not even an original Madison deck design, it's just an older design with his deck's faces slapped on it - and to me, it wasn't even an improvement on the original face design, which itself was simply USPC standard faces with Artifice indices and a visually interesting color scheme.  At least the earlier designs bore some passing resemblance to classic deck designs used by many Las Vegas casinos or at the least popular with card players.  This "Hustlers" design - I don't know what the heck it is, other than a 10X maginification of a corner of the Dealers with the most bizarre border set-up I've ever seen.

Laughed very hard at the candlestick makers  ;D I found the LTD to be an interesting take on the whole minimal approach to things. The Hustlers design, as it is most likely a 10X magnification of the Dealers, does not look very useful to me, and I feel like it'd raise plenty of eyebrows if you were to pull them out of your pocket and asked someone to touch a card.

I now look forward to seeing further iterations of this series of decks with 'badass' names purely to see the lazy design. We could have a brainstorming session for Dan. If we're thinking of gambling related names I can think of: Folders, Splitters, Shufflers, and Floppers.

and i thought D+M doesnt like gaff cards  ??? wonder how gaffs work with gamble

I think there was some question regarding that with the Gaff system for the Artifice decks as well. I can only assume that the gaff cards he would be referring to gaffs that make the spectator suspend their disbelief such as: smudged, shattered, burnt cards, etc. Here's hoping that the gaffs in the gamblers are things that are there to deceive like a 3 of hearts with one corner depicting the ace of spades.

When Madison mentioned being tired and fed up of gaff cards, it was because he was tired of seeing the same old gaffs over and over like broken records being played back to him - such as the 3H-in-one-corner, AS-in-the-other-corner card that's common to a lot of McDonald's Aces or Three Card Monte routines.  The Gaff System cards are a bit more unique than that.  Think of the Angle Z trick - that's not commonly found in gaff decks, but it's in the Gaff System.

What might make for a good gaff in a deck of gambler's gaffs?  How about four Aces that appear perfectly normal, but are the tiniest fraction of an inch LONGER than a standard deck?  You get card control without the use of an actual stripper deck.  You can cut the deck and insure there's always an Ace at the top.  And so on, and so on...

Thanks for clearing that up for me :)And  I could definitely get behind that Ace card control.
