I would like to show you an antique deck of cards that has been sold recently en eBay. I find it really beautiful : The Russell & Morgan Co. Cincinnati, Cabinet No. 707 Progressive Euchre Cards. It's extremely rare to find it with its original wrapper.

Hi Chuqii,

I think that the rider on the left represents in theory the King (fatter than the other) and the one situated in the right is probably the Jack. However, I don't think that they represent real people or a manufacturer of the USPCC. I found the same picture on an antique envelope recently.

Thank you all for your answers! It is a bit frustrating to not know the name of the back requested but we will find the answer maybe one day. In the meantime, I made a little board by gathering the different Aladdin backs covered on this subject.

Dome & Dragon are correct. Below is Crowley

Thank you for the update! By looking at your image, I had the impression that I had already seen that back somewhere. And effectiveley, it also appears in the article of Clear the Decks entitled "More Double-ended Animal Backs" except that the name of the back in the article was just baboons. Can you just confirm that the name is Crowley and not Crowly please? I did not find definition in French for both spellings. Do you know its meaning or a synonym?

Thanks for the additional info Don. I await confirmation from Tom but finally I think that the name of the back requested by Queen of Spades is probably Crowley. I found a copy of the first Aladdin joker (pictured below) with this same back. But If it's not the Crowley back, we can still include it in the first backs used for the Aladdin brand.

Here are two other antique aladdin #1001 decks. Compared with Tom's note, I think that the first green back is Dragon and the second is Dome. If you have a pix of the Crowley back, please don't hesitate to share it.

Chuqii, Thank you very much for the picture of the oriental back!! I won an antique copy with this back recently (repictured below) but I didn't know its name. Can you tell me where you found this image please? And Tom, thanks to you too for the other names of backs. Always very helpful info for me who likes finding the names of antique american backs! If you have pictures of these other backs, I would be happy to see them ;)

In November 2015, a Russell & Morgan deck "Army & Navy" was sold on eBay. Can anyone here have a copy with the same back please? I would very much like to see other pictures of this back in good quality if possible This back also appears (in the lower-right) on the price list pictured below and the official name of the back is Sylph.

Thank you Tom! I would have liked to add the John J. Levy deck but as you said, the price was very high and too expensive for me :) Despite this, do you think that the buyer got a good deal considering the rarity of the deck ?

Hey everyone ;)

Here are my last two finds: The first deck "Tourists #155" was bought on eBay US in November 2015, with the great help of a member of the club to receive it in France. The second deck "Aladdin #1002" (Gold Edges) was sold by a Frenchman in January 2016. According to the back and the joker, I think that this latter dates back to the 1890s. The nice leather case contains two score keeper.

I recently found the antique Patent of February 16, 1864 for the Continental Playing Cards made by Servetus Longley. There are the figures of several cards but also the hand-written descriptive letter. We can read some names such as Martha Washington, General Washington or Moll Pitcher but they were already identified for the deck. However, there are apparently two unknown cards (Anchors Queen [Fig.7] and Anchors Jack [Fig.11]). If you have their names, please do not hesitate to share. Thank you, Max

This week, a fabulous and extremely rare deck of 32 cards (Les Cartes Indiennes à Paris) was sold on eBay for 3,136€ (approximately $3,403). The photos are also attached below but here is the link of the deck:

The buyer has sent me the last photo. I agree, this is a really great deck and I think that the price of 125€ for which it was sold was correct. I remember that this deck was complete but special because it had two joker, two five of clubs while the seven of clubs was missing. Maybe a mix between two identical decks with the same back?

Yes Don, I immediately contacted Michael Scott because in his kickstarter campaign, he specified that a deck would be standard without gold edges. For that reason, Michael sent me what he called "a promo deck", one deck with a red back and without gold edges and whithout air-cushion: "It will be a promo deck so it won’t have an air cushion finish."

I received this unusual "smooth" promo deck but however, I would like to know if somebody really received an air-cushion Red copy without gold edges if possible. Normally, this deck would have been in the first orange box without the wrapper.

I have a problem with a deck. Some times ago, I bought all the Michael Scott Mauger decks. However, I received only decks with gold edges for the red model. Did you receive a red air-cushion deck without gold edges with your order please?

No problem. I do not reproach you to accuse me with anything but I just wanted to say that I had seen the sale on eBay and compared to what I saw, I could guarantee you that it was a Hart deck. However, I just wait for a last with several back cards on the same photo but I received some additional photos from the buyer, to remove any possible doubt.
