After a wonderful discussion with Don & Paul, I've made significant changes to the indices for the Gamesters.  I really believe this is a much stronger and useful approach to four corner indexing.  Paul's clever design worked well on Deco's and he was generous enough to give me the thumbs up on incorporating the design into the Gamesters.  Much cleaner and far more effective.  Looks really pretty when fanned in either direction too!  Thank you everyone for you input and support!

Kickstarter launches Monday, December 15, 2014 at 9am (pst) / 12pm (est)

Awesome! I'm loving the looks of those boxes too!

Yeah, that Joker, Ace and tuck are just plain awesome.  The back is a bit plain and I believe they are pretty much standard courts so my interest level personally isn't there on this one.

The courts are the same from the original Whispering Imps decks but are completely different from the standard Bicycle courts....these are a much older design.

I must admit that I'm not on board with the indices either. Aside from being inconvenient, I think it detracts from the deck's simple, direct theme.

Decks which use old indices styles, like the Triplicate deck reprint, usually consider authenticity over raw functionality. Decks that are designed from scratch (even using a vintage theme) I find work better with standard or redesigned indices. The card as is seems a bit cluttered. You could try to do something like Encarded's Deco deck.

Love the king, though!

Reminds me of the dealing boxes they used in Faro back in the old west.

Maybe they are trying to sell this as an anti-cheating device since only one card is dealt at a time and you can't deal from the bottom.

The only problem with that is that the cheater would have to voluntarily use it.

And I know I'd be pretty insulted if someone asked me to use this in a card game.

Is taking one card off the deck really something that needs to be mechanized?

I'm absolutely loving this deck!

Will the courts be the same as the normal WI deck?

As much as I respect Madison, his badass act is getting stale.

It may have been cool and new when the Players and Rounders came out, but it seems like the ads are getting more hammy with every deck he releases.

From what I've seen on his instagram, the deck isn't anything spectacular. The box looks neat, though.

There is that damn skinny club again!  His transition from one side of the card to the other below is his worst card.  They could have made it better with one bottle and one map.  Notice the other hand.  What is it holding.  I do like the "X" as the ten card.

...I'm pretty sure that's a compass.

I can't imagine that the 3-D coating will do anything good to the deck, performance-wise.  I think it would also make the deck considerably thicker.

The artwork on the other deck, the one with the enlarged, one-way courts, might get them into legal trouble.  While you can't copyright playing card designs, you can copyright artwork, and the art on those courts are cribbed from a few of USPC's decks from the past 20 years or so, such as the Fashion decks.  I'm no copyright lawyer, but I don't have to be one to know that USPC would likely take exception and probably has a much larger legal fund than MPC, so win or lose, MPC loses.

The fashion deck's courts are zoomed out a bit more, it looks like.

Not to mention, it looks like they made a few subtle changes to the courts. Look inside the QoH. They're not entirely the same, but how different do they need to be to avoid violating copyright?

First stretch goal - three more songs on the soundtrack!?!?  WTF?  Are you selling cards or music?  I saw another guy years ago selling his music with his cards.  "Failure to launch" is a good way to describe his campaign.

I actually got the Eclipse deck (eventually), but the issue of the MP3 was never really addressed.

This is probably one of the most bizarre deck projects I've seen.

Hi Colton,

We try to keep it to 1 topic per deck around here. It makes it easier for people reading the forums too.

Please merge.

Merged.  I seem to recall liking this design...

He changed a lot. I'm confused as to why. The old design was cool, interesting, and the theme was fresh. Most of what made the deck interesting and unique was taken out. He did make it Bicycle branded, which is good if you're an all-bike collector, I guess.

I'll still probably pick one up, but it's not nearly as interesting as it was, IMO.

The last photo has the GH deck to the left and a standard Bike deck on the right. It's going to be released in a box set today.

I imagined Zen being much more minimal, not what I expected, but wow awesome.

I think the ZenPure is the more minimal one.

LOVE the look thus far though. I'll definitely pick some up.

That $1 funding goal makes it seem like they are using kickstarter as an online store instead of crowd funding. I'm willing to bet they already have these cards produced and ready to ship.  Is this a common practice?

Unfortunately. People sometimes have a deck printed, and then just use KS to get a signal boost, but I've never seen someone be this obvious in their motives.

I'll be right back after I Lysol my eyes.

These are great decks from Legends Playing Card Co and have some new features. The most original new feature is that the interior of the tuck is gold foil. Beyond the shear beauty of this it can also act as a shiner (for those who know what that is). We will leave it to those who purchase them to find the other major features.

That's PERFECT! I've contemplated getting a shiner ring, but I always thought they were too conspicuous, since I never wear rings. A hyper reflective tuck interior is the best incognito substitute thus far!

I'm definitely picking up a few.

Using a ring lets you glance at your hands as you deal, depending on how you plan to use it the tuck might prove a tad more conspicuous.

If you angle the tuck flap towards you and keep it about a foot away, it'll be much less conspicuous than a ring. You could just flash the top card while adjusting the deck toward the box, and no one would really process it.

I (personally) find that accessories cause suspicion. I've even had people ask if they can inspect my tie while busking.

Hello --

I received a lot of feedback from card enthusiasts to the effect that the buy-in levels were too high. I had been thinking in terms of getting support for a design project and the difficulty of getting enough backers, whereas card enthusiasts here and elsewhere were thinking in terms of essentially acquiring one or more decks. That seems like a fair complaint to me, so I have closed the initial rewards and established new ones.

The one-deck reward level now begins at $12.

I appreciate what you had to say and hope you'll consider the deck.

Who are you?

What are you talking about?

If I'm  not mistaken, he's the creator of the Suitable deck.

I appreciate that you're considering the feedback! But the problems with the deck run deeper than just the reward tiers. I'd recommend that you drop Don a PM or email. He's probably the best guy for design and project consultation.

I don't know Don.  This a current Kickstarter now.  It seems the plastic cards are a new type of "Fluff" item.

Yeah, OK - go play some poker with them and get back to me...

I think he was talking about the cardistry training decks. Both the Lux deck and the trainers are in the same project.

With all the current comments, It makes me want to design a back with cool corners and leave the middle totally white.  I could have a cool fan and have lots of negative white space.  Think about it. What is her fan going to look like?  Is her fan going to distinguish her from other decks?  To me, it seems lacking.

The fan isn't what distinguishes a deck. It's the design.

The only time a deck's fan should be a pivotal design point is if the deck's being made for cardistry or magic. E.G. Fanning decks of the Virtuoso deck. The back as it is needs no revision. It's clean, interesting, and a refreshing change from most of the hyper-detailed backs with ultra-thin borders. (Not that those are bad. I prefer those to most any other deck.) Adding edge detail would greatly diminish the sense of negative space that's been created, and skew the positive space. Essentially, it would make the back seem lacking if more detail was added.

I absolutely LOVE the back. It's a refreshing change from the standard deck.

The only thing I'm a bit iffy about is the ace of spades. It looks kind of odd. If you had a bird in the shape of a spade as opposed to a clump of feathers and a leg, it would tie the deck together better.
