Design & Development / Re: Royal Seasons Playing Cards by Ricky Linn
« on: March 21, 2013, 12:39:00 AM »
I know these ones from a while back, these were part of a designing forum, the user uploaded them as part of a college project a little over 2 years ago.

The process and critique is quite nice. If anyone wants to see the process here is link to the original post, it goes well into the 11th page but all the comments and knowledge is quite nice.

Hope you enjoy,

Only problem I saw was that the back design was not a 2 way back, but a nice design overall.

Heh, I was also working on something similar before moving to my current project.

Leaving some samples. Anyways idk if i'll be coming back to this project.

I'm uploading these from my iPad, so I had to view these on a special program as they still have layers and stuff.

I actually have a version of the back design that does to have the guidelines.

Also I believe the lines are too heavy in your background finer lines might look better.

Wow, this is a really nice clip I like that fact that being acriclic you can showcase all of the tuck box artwork.

These cards look amazing, really stunning artwork, I like the chain mail armor on the jack and the scale mail armor on the king. Really cool.

Plus the king looks like a dragons egg. Kudos.

And the faint diamond at the center of the ace jewel is a really nice touch

The deck overall looks really nice, the court cards seem a bit cartoonish, buy they work excellent with the layout and the use of white space.

The back it's a bit heavy on the lines but it looks ok, the E I think is a bit weird, maybe the deck name or a different seal would look nice, maybe a rampant lion to further break the linear.

Anyways just tossing some comments.

Yeah, she's the one to go to. She's in charge of the custom deck department.

Thanks Don, will edit the post accordingly, to make it sound simpler :) we have all court cards done all in 2d sketches, I'll upload more samples as soon as they start taking on their final 3d colorful forms :)

Design & Development / Dichotomy deck "the duality"
« on: February 28, 2013, 01:25:49 AM »
Hi guys, I'm working with a close friend designer to create a deck, the main theme we have chosen is dichotomy.

A dichotomy is any splitting of a whole into exactly two non-overlapping parts, meaning it is a procedure in which a whole is divided into two parts.

Examples are: good and evil, beautiful and ugly, peace and war, black or white, you get the idea.

We wanted to express that what is good to someone might seem evil to others, and that all good actions can have an underlying evil. Sort of like good can come from evil, and viceversa.

So we have created a couple of court cards that we believe do the trick.

Edit one: Modified post to accommodate some comments.
Edit two: Project partner requested me to take down the pics until we have something more concrete. Will upload them as soon as we have some final artwork done.
