Hey.
I've got something here that has got me pretty confused, so I thought I'd post it up over here and see what you guys have to say about it. I'll dive straight into it.
A couple of years ago, I bought a Bicycle Ribbon Edition Deck. It came in cellophane, but without a seal. At the time, I didn't think anything of it. I knew that some decks came with the sticker seals. But this morning, a package arrived for me in the mail from KPopFever605. One of the decks was the same Ribbon Edition Deck that I already have (not the deck I thought I'd ordered, but that's a different matter). The curious thing was, that this deck had a seal on it. I'd bought it as a used deck, so the seal was broken, which I was fine with, especially as it meant I could check out the cards. The weird thing is, the cards inside have ribbons in each corner of the card, instead of angels like on a regular rider back deck. Yet, in my deck, the cards are just pink rider backs; no ribbons. And the faces on the new decks have either one or two ribbons incorporated in it somewhere, yet mine just has regular Bicycle faces, with the exception of the red suits being pink. The weirder thing is that the back of the deck box shows a face down card without ribbons in the corners. And yet, one of these decks did have ribbons in the corners.
I've still got a sealed deck of the Ribbon Edition deck that I bought a few years ago, and I checked that box aswell. It didn't have a seal either. And the little tag that you can pull to unwrap the cellophane doesn't say 'Bicycle' across it as a few of my other sealed Bicycles do.
What I really want to know is, are the two decks that I bought a few years ago fake decks? The handling is just the same as a normal deck, and the cards feel the same thickness and everything. But I can't think of any other conclusion to make, other than a fake deck of cards, a balls up at the USPCC, or a different edition of the Ribbon Edition deck.
Also, while digging around, I found some other pictures of the deck that look to be the same as KPopFever605's deck; http://www.doobybrain.com/2009/09/07/bicycle-pink-ribbon-playing-cards/
I've posted some pictures below. The deck on the left is my deck from a few years ago, and the deck on the right is the one I just received from KPopFever605. Sorry about the bad quality/lighting; I just quickly used my cell phone to take the pictures.
Also, sorry about the wall of text above. Just trying to make myself as clear as possible, though I fear I've just confused the issue even more. Any help is appreciated.  :)

All I really know is I believe there was some type of copyright or lawsuit or something weird like that that made it so the ribbons couldn't be on the deck. I'm guessing It was around the same time the USPCC made people stop editing their back design.

Yeah, you can have a completely custom back, but not a modified rider back. I'd think the one with the ribbons was an earlier print, and then the ribbons would've been removed to respect those new rules...
If those are still in stores, I'll check if they have a seal next time I go to walmart.

Thanks a lot for offering to look for me. It'd be a great help.  :)
Also, surely the USPCC can decide to modify the back, seeing as it's their own design? I'm pretty sure this deck isn't a custom deck - I think the USPCC designed and printed it all themselves. At least, that's what I always thought. And it doesn't say anywhere on the deck 'Designed by so-and-so'.

There were 3 versions of the breast cancer deck...

There was a copyright issue with the "pink ribbon", which I'm pretty sure is not on the last box (middle one above)

Yeah, that's what I thought. And I guess the copyright issue explains why the backs of the cards and the back of the deck don't match.
But it doesn't explain why my deck came with cards without the ribbons, yet the exact same deck box contains cards with ribbons. Any ideas?

Since the deck was opened when he sold it to you... the most likely answer is that they owned more than one version of this deck.. and someone put the cards in the wrong tuck case after handling them.

Haha, I honestly did consider this. But here; http://www.doobybrain.com/2009/09/07/bicycle-pink-ribbon-playing-cards/ the cards are shown like the deck that I was sold recently, not the deck that I got a few years ago.

I honestly did not misplace the tuck case, I never really do that with any of my decks anyway. The only two breast cancer decks I had are now his.

  • Pick a card, any card...no, not THAT card!

  • Facebook:
There's actually FOUR editions of the pink ribbon breast cancer decks, according to the1eyedjack.com.

Here's the FIRST edition of the ribbon/Rider back deck:
http://www.the1eyedjack.com/servlet/the-314/1st-Edition-Pink-Ribbon/Detail
Click on the "detailed description" for more info and a link to a video explaining the difference.

Here's the SECOND edition:
http://www.the1eyedjack.com/servlet/the-33/Pink-Ribbon-Edition/Detail

This may also be a second edition - or perhaps the "second edition" is really just a second printing of the first edition?
http://bmpokerworld.com/bicycle107.php

This is the next edition to follow:
http://bmpokerworld.com/bicycle6.php
http://www.the1eyedjack.com/servlet/the-313/Ribbon-Edition-Deck/Detail

This is the current edition:
http://bmpokerworld.com/bicycle18.php

If I'm reading the info on the Playing Card Wiki and BMPokerWorld correctly, the "current" edition is actually between what I listed above as second printing/edition and next edition - but was reprinted and is not the current edition.  If this is right, this would be the release order:

1st - first printing of the pink ribbon deck with altered Rider back
2st - same deck, second printing
3rd - "Standard" edition of the BC deck
4th - "Ribbon" edition of the BC deck
5th (current) - reissue of the "Standard" edition of the BC deck.

Now, this could be 100% incorrect - there seems to be some inconsistency in the information I'm finding.  Anyone got a contact at USPC that can clarify this?
