I had a sneaking suspicion with their recent blog post on Jerry's Nuggets that they'd end up selling them!
What is the market price for these decks today?
(Final bidding price at ebay)
It's hard to go by eBay due to the numerous counterfeits - you can't tell if an auction is for a legit deck or not.
omg i want one... how much does lee asher sell them for usually does anyone know?
Price varies based on condition. New and unused doesn't always mean pristine - plastic wrap pops off from shrinkage, deck seals begin to lose adhesiveness, the box might have cosmetic damage. They don't usually allow you to choose your own color, though, and there's sort of an auction-like process for selling rather than just straight-up "I'd like one, please."
I think they are selling them for too much, and I think that they know that. Nonetheless I think people will buy them, and they know that too. D&D really like to make money, I think this has become clear.
Not really. A legit deck in new condition doesn't exactly fall out of the trees these days. Wouldn't surprise me if these were cherry-picked as pristine as well.
This is true, but honestly through Ebay's crackdown on fake sales as well as being able to see the seller's history you can still feel fairly confident in getting legitimate Jerry's for less than $350 a pop.
Trust me - fakes and illegitimate merchandise still manage to get through. This time around, with Buyer Protection, eBay's on the hook for it and thus has incentive to catch them, but they're not perfect at spotting such auctions.
I like how they look, but I still don't see why anyone would pay $350 a deck unless you are a big-time collector.
There's a number of reasons, though the price does tend to limit them. They're a piece of the history of both Las Vegas and magic. They're made in a way playing cards are no longer made, using a very high-quality process that back then was just standard practice - remember, these were cheapo decks in the gift shop, only 50 cents a pack, up until the stock was bought up by magicians and collectors maybe twenty years ago. They're pushing fifty years old and still available sealed in the box. The rumor, supported by many owners' claims, is that the handling actually improves with age.
Their market value today are $250-300 for no cellophane, and $300-350 with cellophane intact.
I'm not seeing anywhere on the page notes on the quality of the decks. I have received torn cellophane decks from D&D's collection numerous times, and the decks included Absolut Vodkas, Fournier 605's and Smoke & Mirrors decks.
Jerry's, and any vintage deck, are extremely difficult to keep the cellophane intact. Even Lee Asher has an entire tier of somewhat discounted decks in his sales dedicated to Jerry's with torn cello.
At those prices, if there were issues with the decks, I'm thinking they've made a note of that in the posting for sale. If not, they're just begging for a customer relations nightmare.
(BTW: when were they selling 605s?)
$300-350? I've seen them go for less than that and they were already super-rare valuable when I started.
But when was that? I've seen decks change in value - both up and down - in the course of just a few weeks. I paid $25 for a once sold-out Propaganda deck that's now only $9.95 at BMPokerWorld.
Thats a month of rent for me.
You have CHEAP rent, my friend - your obviously not living in New York, unless it's in a cardboard box, and even then, not in the good neighborhoods!
