I remember regular retail gears up for the spring fashions and clothes (I guess that would be autumn in Oz?) so if it was a bad year, clearance sales kick in to dump the left-over winter goods. I used to work for the flagship Banana Republic store in Manhattan about a lifetime ago.
But magic isn't seasonally driven like other retail is, so I wouldn't hold my breath on big post-annum sales - not unless they needed to clear the warehouse for some big new product(s) that would need the room.
