  • Pick a card, any card...no, not THAT card!

  • Facebook:
It's an interesting idea, but not a very good one for people looking to make ORIGINAL playing card designs.  It's like using clip art to make, well, art.  It can seriously lack originality.

Hi Don,

There are actually many features to the Online Deck Builder including the option for people to make ORIGINAL Playing Card Designs :)

Advanced Design example A:
Step 1: Members can use the deck builder that will provide tutorials on playing card designing as well as supplying card backing templates, tuck box templates and box seal templates to be the canvas for members to design their own fully custom deck.
Step 2: Members then have several options on what to do with their completed designs:
Option 1. Members can upload their completed designs into the deck builder and from there, our production team at RCPCC will place members deck designs into an online deck catalogue where our customers can browse and purchase decks that have been designed by members.  RCPCC will take care of all the order processing, manufacturing and shipment of decks to customers and members will receive a commission for every deck sold that they designed using the deck builder.
Option 2. Kickstarter fulfillments service: Members can launch their own Kickstarter project using their ORIGINAL deck design that they have created with or without the assistance of the deck builders tools, tutorials and image assets, and request the services of RCPCC to have their decks mass produced and shipped out to their backers after a successful Kickstarter project.  RCPCC will prepare the members custom decks online ready for members to access and within just a few clicks members can request their decks to be mass produced and shipped out to all of their backers.

Advanced Design example B:
Members can download one of our playing card templates, tuck box templates or box seal templates to design their own ORIGINAL card backing, tuck box and/or box seal.  Members can then upload their completed designs to the Online Deck Builder where it will be added to the deck builders image library with their name and image code attached.  Every time a customer selects an image that is designed by a member to make a custom deck via the custom deck order form on the RCPCC website,  the member who designed that image will receive a commission from each sale made.  Commission earned from sales made will be accumulated and sent to that members elected Paypal account on a quarterly basis.

Basic Option (can be used by both customers and members:
Members can use the custom order form that will be available on the RCPCC website to design a deck by selecting from a range of design features including the option to select the card backing image, tuck box image and box seal image that they would like for their custom deck.  Members/Customers also have the option to include text on the front of the tuck box to make the deck more personalised such as including their name or a friends name as well as having the option to have their name printed on the ace of spades..... keep in mind that every time a member/customer uses the basic option to design and purchase a deck, contributing design members will be receiving a commission from every sale made if the customer selects an image designed by a member.

The Basic Option caters more to people who are looking to make a personalised deck as a gift or for a special occasion eg. for a bucks night, a member/customer could use the custom order form to create a bucks night themed deck and will have the option to include bucks a night themed card backing design, tuck box design and any face card set design they like, plus include text on the front of the box to say for example ''Don's Bucks night'' plus include custom text on the Ace of Spades to make the deck more personalised. From there, the member/customer can place the order and have the deck manufactured and delivered to anywhere in the world.

* The Online Deck Builder Toolkit provides members with all the tools needed to create and produce custom decks of playing cards, from playing card enthusiast, novice designer to professional designer, there are a host of features that all types of members can benefit from by having access the the Online Deck Builders Features.......there will also be features available for card magicians, and without requiring any design skills they will be able have their own custom decks produced using the custom order form option, as well as being able to have their own gaff cards made to go with the deck and/or select which stack they would like for the deck when it is manufactured and wrapped in pealable cellophane for them etc.

All these features and more are currently in development and the Online Deck Builder Toolkit currently being Beta Tested before access will be made available to members from the RCPCC website.

I would encourage everyone to try the deck builder for themselves when it's ready, to realise it's full potential :)

The regular price of our Lifetime membership plan is valued at $185USD to gain unlimited access to up to 1000+ playing card designs, tuck box designs, box seal designs, face card sets, playing card templates, design tutorials, Kickstarter fulfillment services and more.

Currently we are very generously giving away our lifetime membership plan for FREE to everyone who comes along to support us on Kickstarter to celebrate the official opening of the Royal Crown Playing Card Company :)

Pledges start at just $18AUD (approx $12 USD) and in return our supporters will no only be receiving lifetime membership to RCPCC they will also be receiving one or more Founders Edition Royal Crown Decks of their choice, in either Blue, Red, Green, or the Mystery 4th Colour Deck which will be revealed if we can reach the stretch goal to unlock it!

The Founders Edition Decks include a Silver Gilded Certificate of Authenticity with serial number on the back that supporters can display with their founders edition decks, and sets are customiseable to be displayed in various colours and quantities along with their certificates.

See Live Kickstarter for Royal Crown Playing Cards + Online Deck Builder at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/754282482/royal-crown-playing-cards-online-deck-builder-toolkit

Any support for our official launch campaign on Kickstarter would be greatly appreciated, and RCPCC look forward to being able to offer our extensive range of design tools and services to our fast growing number members in the near future.

Kindest Regards,
Craig

Hi Don,

There are actually many features to the Online Deck Builder including the option for people to make ORIGINAL Playing Card Designs :)

Um, Craig, how can it be considered ORIGINAL if it's using someone else's work to create it?

You described methods for creating fully original decks, sure, but this ability isn't lacking in software that's already on the market and in the possession of digital artists all over the world.  What your software adds is the ability to create a catalog of someone else's artwork, that others can then mix and match (much like a clip art library) to make their own desired designs - designs made using someone else's work, hence it is not original.  Whereas the artist who knows how to digitally create a truly original design will not likely use this software for making their design (there's no need if they already possess digital art tools), the person who wants to make something pretty but lacks those skills might be tempted to pull together a little of this and a little of that from your art database to make their own design.  It would be their own design - but you can't really call it original, in that it wasn't crafted by their own hand using artistic skills, but was cut-and-pasted using someone else's original work.  It would be more accurate to say they are artists in the genre of collage than in deck design.

It's as if I took samples from a few dozen different songs in a music library, edited them together to make something I think sounds great, then tried to call myself a musician.  I would be an editor at best, not a musician.  People might like what I've compiled, might even call it music, but I can't genuinely say I made it, and I certainly couldn't perform it for an audience - I don't know anyone who wants to see a live show of some guy playing a recording he edited together.  (Deejays do just that, but the different is that they're doing it live and on the fly more often than not, in which case, yes, there is a performance aspect to it.  But if I'm sitting in a basement somewhere simply editing clips together and calling them songs, no, I really am not someone that could be defined as a musician, just as someone using this software in the manner I described wouldn't be a deck designer.

It is good that I know about software like this, though, so I appreciate you informing of of it.  When the Diamond Awards Committee gets together to select the Deck of the Year and Artist of the Year for 2020, I'll make certain that we update the eligibility rules to include that the work considered for an award must be the artist's own creation, or that if it is a collaborative effort (which work made clip-art style from your software would be), any other contributing artists creating unique pieces used in that work must also get credit for their work on the deck's art.  This would insure that the actual artist gets recognition.  Not that it will matter, in the long run, as it's unlikely that anything produced using such a clipart database would even be considered as worth nominating by the Committee, or worth voting for by the members of 52 Plus Joker - they tend to be a bit more discriminating in their tastes.
