I was wondering about concave cards. Do they have a significant history? I remember seeing some once but they don't seem common. Were they designed that way to make them stand out visually or was there a purpose?

Concave cards?  I'm not sure I understand.  Could you describe them or provide an image or a link?

If you're taking about things like Breather Decks or N-stripped cards, those are used by magicians out to fool their spectators!  I'm a "Deck Tailor" - custom alterations for magicians and card sharps.

I'm guessing they're similar in purpose to "Crooked Cards" - an attempt to make ordinary, rectangular playing cards easier to hold in one's hand.  In simplest terms, ergonomics.
